What does it do for the coefficient?
Positive attitude from Stephen O'Donnell on fixture congestion
https://medium.com/@McLaughlinGavin/...7f0#.5fizdffgvQuote:
Friday’s match marked the start of a gruelling schedule that will see Dundalk play, at the very least, another 15 times between now and the end of October but O’Donnell said that it was a challenge he was looking forward to.
“There’s no point us talking about the schedule,” he said. “We just need to get it done. What’s the point in us talking about it?
“We’re more than capable of playing twice a week with the squad we have so there’s no point in moaning. That’s the way it is. We just need to get it done.
“Obviously the season could be scheduled better but that’s the way it is. You ask yourself would you rather be out of Europe and the answer to that is definitely no. It is what it is so we will have no excuses on that front.”
Suggestions that Sligo v Harps may be on next Saturday.
If they're more than capable of playing twice a week why not keep playing league fixtures during the early Euro rounds...
Longford v Bray rescheduled for next Saturday 7-30
Friday makes sense, can't be expected to play on the Saturday and the Monday
Play Dundalk on Tuesday.
Problem with that though Dundalk play Europa League game on the Thursday!
Sligo should count themselves lucky that they can rearrange a cancelled home fixture immediately for a Friday night
Apparently both clubs have agreed game for Saturday night according to Donegal Democrat.
That means Harps will have to play Saturday against Sligo and Monday against Dundalk again.
Dundalk v Rovers will take place in Oriel on Tuesday 20th September. 7:05 kick off aswell, which is a pain, as the game will be on RTE 2.
Sligo, Harps set for Tuesday 27th September
Really struggling with this one. Why could the game not have been played Friday night? Surely Friday suits Sligo better than a Tuesday night?
Harps now will have 6 matches inside 19 days. Stephen Kenny isn't the only one with problems.
So Cauldfield has just said that fixtures were cancelled on them and that it didnt suit!!!???!
Balls it was designed to compact more games in dundalk as a consequence of it happening.
From watching cork destroy rovers and hit near 20 goals in 4 games I am delighted they tried to give us a night off last week.
Goood to see Paranoia is alive and well in Louth. Jim Corr isn't alone up there.
It isnt tough! He said the fixtures were cancelled 'on us'. and that it 'didnt suit' him. I dont particularly care what the reasons were whether it is gamesmanship or not. But trying to read some cryptic message, between the line stuff in what Caulfield said - claiming what he was saying was not what he was saying!!?? That is not miles off paranoia your self EP.
Speaking of which:
John Caulfield: "Its been frustrating from our point of view that the league let Dundalk play games ahead of us. We found it difficult to get in close to them. People want to see a title run in and there's nowhere around Europe where a league would allow teams to get in ahead of everyone else."
Can't we just agree that both Kenny and Caulfield talk a lot of crap?
No! games in hand dont happen in other leagues John?!!?? Have a look at the they way fixtures pan out for the World Club competitor from Europe during that tournament or after a persistent spell of snow in the north of say England when the southern clubs fulfill their fixtures. This season Cork had more games played at one point. Also cork did cancel 2 games and Dundalk pressed ahead with refixtures and put the points on the board. The gamble didnt pay off for Cork s they are under the pressure of winning games in hand. Lets not forget how different the table would look of Cork had picked up points as Dundalk went on a winless streak and Cork failed to capitalise so could be ahead with games in hand but I am very sure he would be concerned about the match schedule then!
John Caulfield there, blaming the FAI for cork going six months without scoring a goal earlier in the season.
Best part is, it will be swallowed whole on Leeside.
Whole raft of fixture changes again.
Sligo v Harps rescheduled fixture has been rescheduled again because a Pats v Sligo game has been rescheduled to the date of the rescheduled Sligo v Harps rescheduled game.
The league has been well and truly messed with this year.
We have to figure out a way of leaving enough gaps and spaces in the calendar in future seasons. This may mean extending the season by a couple of weeks.
As a result of this latest change, Harps have to play Galway away on Saturday 1st and Sligo away Monday 3rd. Wonderful.
Sligo V Harps now fixed for 48 hours after Galway v Harps (was previously moved to the Saturday night). Cheers league authorities.
I remember in Stephen Kennys first season in charge of us in the top flight in 2000/01 the exact same thing happened to us. We played Bray away on the Friday and lost 3-1 I think and then we played Cork City in the FAI Cup on the Sunday in the FAI Cup replay and won it !I cant remember the reasons for it at the time tbh!
Town V Dundalk scheduled for the 1st of October is now postponed with Dundalk in cup semi final action the next day. Don't know why it took unail now to announce it. No new date set yet
