Set for a spell on the sidelines, scheduled to have ankle surgery tomorrow: https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/odowda-to-undergo-surgery/
Bristol City don't expect O'Dowda to return this month - https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/taylor-s...nia-operation/
Quote:
As for the longer-term 'pair' of Hegeler, O'Dowda and Djuric, Johnson added: "They're further away [than some of the other injured players]. Both are progressing well and healing well but they have longer-term injuries so we don't expect to see them in February.
O'Dowda still a bit away - https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/magnusso...cardiff-clash/

Callum O'Dowda (ankle) - Rehab continues, less than a month from full training.
O'Dowda's assist at the weekend was very similar to his one in Poland - https://youtu.be/qnNzwv4q3WE?t=1m37s
He really has great technique. Is there anyone with better feet in the squad?
No, I don't think so. Horgan can go past people but in a different way.
That's good his crossing is now getting results. I think his crossing has generally been poor for us until last week. Too much air or misplaced.
One swallow does not a summer make. Lets see when he puts the ball 3 feet ahead of him against a team pressing or putting pressure on, we will see the O'Dowda we've come accustomed too. I think this moving inside playing centre is a greenshoot misnomer.
Another assist tonight
I'd love to know what a greenshoot misnomer is.
A greenshoot misnomer does not a summer make.
I think this guy is rubbish I'm afraid. He's never impressed me. Weak and lacks composure.
Don't think I can conclude and concur on that. I would say that MON is doing him no favours. He doesn't seem to know his role and if it's as a 10 then he doesn't appear comfortable there. Is he not a left winger?
It's a collective malfunction at the moment while MON is inexplicably shoehorning fellas into positions that clearly don't suit them. I've no problem with him trying the odd positional adjustment in isolation, but he's creating havoc by implementing them en masse. Robinson as a number nine, Hendrick in the holding role, McClean wing back, Christie midfield, O'Dowda number ten, Long left side of the back three, etc. We're playing exactly the way you'd expect us to play after being set up like that.
This five at the back thing is a waste of time without a proper midfield too. We might as well play four at the back and get an extra body in midfield where we're being swamped.
I was shouting out for 5 at the back for a long time but want to revert to a 4 again. 5 can work but not with the way O'Neill picks the other 5!
We used to bang on about the pairs and units that worked so well under McCarthy. What pairs and units do we have now? I'd say none.
Whereas with 4 at the back the pairs could be Coleman and Doherty on the right (or even Christie), Stevens and Brady on the left. Hendrick offering a triangle with these on either side. We still need a deep plying player like Williams or please God Crowley can play a bit and fill that role, a baller who can get on the ball and move it along. Then it all starts taking shape.
was good tonight and got a goal. I think Martin o Neill did us a good service involving o dowda as much as he did and I think Mick will reap some rewards Of The experience he has gained. Seems he has not signed a new contract and might be sold in jan
Second goal of the season for O'Dowda, against Stoke - good to see him finding form in advance of the qualifiers: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/46677190
What was Mick's preferred formation at Ipswich? I always had him down as a good man for 4-4-2. That would be a formation that would very much suit Callum.
I know Mick did reference getting crosses into the box in his interviews after getting the post.
I think Mick said when he got the job that 442 was obsolete as a viable formation (in his opinion) I don't think o dowda has the tools to be a proper winger(not much pace,no strength,no great tricks, ) but that sweet left foot, neat and tidy technique, great engine, lovely acceleration and unusual(for us) appreciation for what's happening around him make me think he is made for the point of a midfield three

Linked with a move to Leeds if they don't nab their first choice winger.
A glowing tribute from Bristol City boss, Lee Johnson - https://www.independent.ie/sport/soc...-37729496.html
To me he is the closest thing to a 10 we have unless we get Crowley on board. I'd be very happy with a midfield three of McCarthy, Hendrick and o dowda with Brady and Robinson wide of a front man. To me Brady has been lost as a 10 .
Nice goal from Callum

Perhaps worth noting Callum help defeat Martin O'Neil's Nottingham Forest in his first match in charge, no doubt Martin congratulated him on a good performance! :pQuote:
According to The Times, a number of top-flight clubs had scouts in attendance to watch the winger in City's 2-1 FA Cup win over Bolton last night, in which O'Dowda opened the scoring.
The clubs aren't specified, but it's certainly bad news for the Yorkshire club, considering top-tier sides can blow them out of the water.
It must be noted that O'Dowda may not even be on Leeds' radar anymore, amid suggestions that the Elland Road club wants Dan James from Swansea City
I wonder which clubs. Pity the Times article is behind the paywall.
Only just signed a new contract, doubt the club will want him to leave
I think maybe Leeds pulled out because of the new contract perhaps, that would make him more expensive I expect? That would be be so much of an issue for premiership clubs though if indeed any are interest. I don't think any are named even on the Times article which may be speculation more than anything else. I mean premiership clubs must have scouts at lots of games, and as no clubs have been named it seems a bit of a nothing story.
By the way O'Neil's Forest are now 2-1 up, put plenty of time to go, so would not be surprised if they ended up getting beat! (But I hope not!).
A lot of the papers today saying that Swansea will seek 12m for Daniel James. I wouldn't be surprised to see an interest in O'Dowda being re-ignited by lads on that basis.
Scored today.

Bit surpised he went the way he did, seemed easier to go wide a bit an slot it in, anyhow put it through
the keepers legs, or at least I thought he did initially, looking at it again I am not sure if the defender
put it in the back of the net.
Seems to depend on who you watch, if you watch O Dowda it looks like he scores, but if I watch the defender
well I am not so sure if he didn't score an own goal.
Doubt the defender will be claiming it!
scored a brilliant individual goal today v norwich. cant find a link though.
seems to be in excellent form recently

There's a pay wall on this but you get the gist. Looks like O'Dowda has been frozen out at Bristol City for refusing to sign a new contract. We will see where he ends up. A PL club would be nice but I could also see a Championship challenger like Leeds (again) being very interested.
Crazy decision for Bristol city to not have played him if he was fit. They only won 2 of their last eight league games but only missed the playoffs by 4 points. Great he is fit I had assumed his season was over with injury
Pointed out originally that this lad hasn't much to him bar the odd bit here and there. No consistency and hasn't pushed on in 2 or 3 years. He is 24 and has not played so much for his club towards the end of the season. What does he think will happen? HOpefully this time we can forget about him with the young talent coming through.
We(well not all inclusive) seem to have a strange conception of what youth is, and time on your side on this forum.
