Also not sure if young O'Connor would make the bench just yet, also if Higgins signs as expected tomorrow, and possibly Keith Ward if he can prove his fitness, SK may consider Shields for defensive cover, but he had a fine second half of 2013 as a MF, and a very improved one at that.
If Higgins and Ward sign that will take it to 18 + O'Connor if he gets into the first squad, I think that will be the budget spent and the rest.

8 defenders, 2 for each position, maybe he wont bring in any more? I'd be very worried with injuries in that regard as Deans wouldnt be able to fill in for a huge amount of games and you cant expect an under 19 player to come in and not make mistakes so defo 1 if not 2 more CB's needed. True, he played there a bit in his previous spell with us and was very good, though obviously that's a good while ago.
