Shocker for us tonight but glad at least it was the cup.
If you missed it here is the draw;
Derry City v Drogheda United.
St. Pat's/Shamrock Rovers v Sligo Rovers.
Semi-Final FT
Derry City 1 - 3 Drogheda United
Final in Tallaght apparently. It's very unfair on clubs playing Shamrock Rovers to have to play finals in Tallaght.
This is the second final this year where Drogheda have to play Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght.
It is the logical decision but it is also unfair.
It's done by a draw unless it's changed in the last couple of years. Sligo had the same advantage when they hosted Monaghan.
When's the last time the league cup final was played at a neutral ground?
It's hardly Shams fault Droghedas ground isn't up to scratch
I think they should of played it at Tolka. Would be good to have it at a neutral ground. Am i correct in saying this is rovers 4th home final in tallaght?(2 Setanta finals, 2 league cup finals)
Tolka is a total dump. Finals should be played in decent stadia.
Croker?
Away teams have won 6 of the last 10 finals.
Interesting list!
Does anyone know if this years venue was agreed on by the finalists, if it was a coin toss, or if the FAI simply imposed this decision?
Like everything else with the FAI, we have absolutely no idea, but I believe as recently as Sligo's win over Monaghan it was decided by a coin toss.
Home final for youths was first not done on a coin toss as it was their first major final, Ferrycarrig was improved a bit for it. Nobody was bothered as it was seen as fair award for a great achievement for a new club. Precedence was set then that FAI chose. What would be a greater irritant is if the League Cup final was, this year, played in Tallaght had the final involved Sligo with Shams knocked out rather than the Showgrounds (or Oriel of course as the favoured nominated alternative ground for the Drogs where the EA Cup would have been presented to them before the match).
