Many thanks for your email.
Clearly RTE is not biased against domestic football.
Could have fooled me
Our commitment to Irish soccer over the next few years is considerable. It includes 13 live games in the League of Ireland and the FAI cup this year;
Wow - a WHOLE 13 live games - quick, break open the bunting and alert the press!
18 in 2010; 23 in 2011; 28 in 2012;and 33 in 2013.
So we'll have to wait a whole 4 years to get to a level of coverage which other broadcasters give their National League
In addition there will be 36 Monday Night Soccer programmes every year until 2013, with every game covered in the domestic league and cup.
Except for the First Division of course
In these times RTE is not immune from the downturn of the economy. We have lost €68m in advertising revenue in the past year.
We have covered many of the Irish sides in Europe in recent years: Cork City, Drogheda Utd, Bohemians and St Pats. More indeed than any other station in Ireland.
Except when Bohs played Salzburg, Pats played Sovetov and Steaua, etc. etc.
However, in 2009 we have no spare funds. We have had to cut back on a lot of our output and soccer is not immune from that.
Lets see you try to cut back on the GAA Coverage - and what reaction that would get. Fairs fair and all
