2-0 still leaves it somewhat interesting. Like if Pat's can get an early goal, you never know.
**** sake, he should have controlled that and he would have been in.

why is this man paid as a profesional footballer.
all over now.
Only caught the last 40 minutes or so but was reminded of Ireland playing a side like Germany or Holland - bags of effort and the odd half-chance but lacking in the quality up front to break through.
All credit to them however, they seemed to be able to rattle Hertha. Living in England and not having Sky its practically impossible to see LOI football but was impressed with the individual ability of several players. Tie all over unless St Pats get an early goal and have the RDS absolutely rocking for 90 minutes.
Fair enough result. 1-0 or 2-1 would not have flattered Pats. Age old problem of Irish team sin Europe than don;t have 11 quality players so carrying a few passengers. The tie is over as Berlin have the clean sheet at home & know that can attack away from home with the knowledge than one away goal gets them into the next round.
The flags & mascot are celebrating. Any one know what the attendance was?
8000 or so.
Were the Pats lads wearing the wrong studs? Loads of players kept slipping. 2-0 isn't the end of the world, but I was disappointed that Pats never really tested the keeper; and they seemed to never actually want to put in a cross.
Yes, thats Pats out but lets get out to support these players in the 2nd leg at the RDS. These players deserve a big crowd and an even bigger atmosphere in the 2nd leg.
Tie over. Pats can now concentrate on the FAI Cup and finishing second in the league. Frustrating game as Pats could easily have nicked one as easily as the germans did.
2-1 would have been a better reflection on the game imo
I thought that too. Was reminded of lots of Ireland away games in the 70's/ 80s v the likes of France. We did well I thought, remember the German league is still quite a level above the LOI. Passed the ball well at times, and it wasn't 90 minutes under the cosh by any means. We just lacked the extra bit of quality up front to really create something. Both goals were a bit unlucky I thought, and 1-0 might have been a fairer result. Can't see us doing it at the RDS, but hope we have a real good go at them.
Good performance and a lot better effort than what Derry put up against the French side PSG. Herta are a better team then PSG having an ex Liverpool like Andriy Voronin so playing against the likes of him they can hold their heads up igh.
Pats put up a decent show, but the Germans totally ran the show in the second half and coulda scored more ... but the tie is over ... if the Germans score once in the RDS which Id expect them probably to do then Pats will need to score 4 to win the tie and theyll never do that against a bunch of well drilled germans.

At final whistle that is exactly what i said....but if Hertha come to Dublin thinking "Job done" they may be in for shock. job only half done and if Pats can at them early the whole tie changes. Yes if they get away goal it over but Pats need to get in their faces right away and make it a war.
Oh but that is exactly what i mean. Lets do what they dont want. :)Quote:
You're not supposed to mention that!
Review of the game on the frontpage of teamtalk.com, for anyone interested.
Fair play to them, a British website giving more coverage to the game than most of the Irish media probably will.
Peter Collins at the end of the Champions League coverage said there was some good news for Irish football today. I thought that was an odd way to refer to a 0-2 defeat, however brave, but apparently the good news was Reading beating Sheffield Wednesday. FFS. I don't think they mentioned the Pat's game at all.
Great result :)
Its gets more and more depressing for LOI fans these days with so many clubs in trouble and us no closer to making the breakthrough in Europe.
It looks like another trophy free and meaningless season for big spenders Pats.
On a positive note the co-efficient points got a good boast this year and 1 match yet to go. :)
2:0
remember when Longford won by that margin at home in Europe - we all remember what happened in the second leg
(no, no, no I'm NOT expecting Pats to win 5:1 at home. . . . but weird sh1t happens in football!)
BTW, thanks KianD for all the text updates - didn't get finished work till 8, so couldn't get near a TV.
Are the 2nd leg tickets on sale yet? What price this time?
I just saw the goals on RTE News.
Disappointing that Hertha have a clear 2 nil advantage.
Who knows, Drogheda were 2 goals down and ended up being a sensational barn door kick away from eliminating Kiev. Pats are well capable of competing with them at the RDS.
You've just said it right there. When we are seeded it will be a bit easier and we should go further. And Europe will take alot of work from LOI teams over the next 5-7 years.Quote:

Although Hertha Berlin aren't the best side in Germany by any means I have to congratulate St. Patricks on the result, 2-0 is a very good effort. I am not trying to be patronising here.
I dunno though, i think Europe is something that LOI side have to get used to doing well in. The more we are in it (further rounds) and the better we do will help change the attitude towards the Hertha Berlins etc. Its a habit, and we need to pick it up.
I'm not saying this is the answer but it will help is what i mean.
Voronin is far from a good player. He's like that guy at school that thinks he's good and just runs around backheeling the ball to no-one and taking it off other players toes.
There were about 13,000 there last night.
At half time the Hertha crowd were starting to get a bit restless, a few boos as the passes went astray, and they decided to make two changes, which really changed the second half.
Pats can hold their heads up high, they could cause a few more problems before this match is over at the RDS. The fans that I was chatting to were good craic too, the Harp bar was rocking before the game and there were more away fans than I've seen a lot of fans bring.
great display by pats. Missed the first goal as went outside for a min to make a call, but for the second it was certainly a lot of luck for hertha. Pats really impressed defensively and though hertha had a lot of possession they were limited - by pats - to very few shots on goal. Also great to see that pats didnt hoof the ball and tried to play it on the ground at all times, and to pass it round, some neat 1 - 2s and controlled the ball well in tight situations. really was a great advertisement for irish soccer and hopefully there were some people watching it that normally wouldn't watch irish games. Pats performed far better than Derry did in fairness 2 years ago. Honestly though 1 - 0 would have been a far fairer results. Had pats got an away goal i think they would have gone through back in the RDS but I dont see that happening now. Great display by Pats though and great advertisment for the EL. Pats defence were very solid.
coefficient took a jump this year but drogheda were seeded in the last two euro seasons and it'll help only in the first tie.
Pats looked very tired for the last 30 minutes out there. Lot more heart in the Drogs performances to be honest. 2-0 is not a good result people! It's a loss with no away goal. putting three passed Berlin is a big ask. Shame for Pats but someone said it earlier consistency is becoming a factor in LoI euro adventures.
Expect bohs to do well next year and if Drogheda can nick the last euro spot from Derry it'd be better for the league
how come the game wasnt on rte radio lw last night ??? thought it was supposed to be no ??
I thought Pats did extremely well. Given the resources available to both teams I was just hoping they wouldnt be hammered a la odense. Instead they went out and tried to play good football as always. The second goal took the gloss off it a bit unfortunately. It was a great achievement getting this far in the first place and would have been a big ask to see them knock out Hertha Berlin. I thought the coverage of the game was non existant. In any other country in the world except this one it would have been the lead story. Nothing wrong with watching the premiership or following english clubs but when an Irish team is playing the same nite as an English team the Irish team should get prominance in the Irish press. The fact that they don’t is beyond comprehension.
