Keith Andrews made his first appearance in the Premiership for Blackburn
Kevin Doyle opened his account for the season with a hat trick, his first in English football
Mark Yeates also got his first goals of the season, with a brace
Diarmuid O'Carroll scored two minutes after coming off the bench for Morecambe
Billy Clarke is the first Irish player to score four in a single game in some time!
Irish Abroad statistics for August 2008: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/august.xquery
Lee Carsley strengthens the case for his inclusion in the squad by winning more games than any other midfielder, along with Stephen Hunt
Graham Stack proves the worth of his move to Plymouth by starting more games in August than he did in 2007/2008 season!
Robbie Keane was substituted more than any other player
Andy Keogh was the most introduced substitute
Only one defender scored in August - Damien Delaney of QPR
Stephen Quinn, JJ O'Toole, Noel Hunt and Billy Clarke were the biggest talisman (talismen?) of the month, every time they scored, their team went on to win with two wins each
How's Doyle getting on at Birmingham this year?
Pretty much the same as last season: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroa...playerID=38296
Taylor is still the no 1 choice keeper in the Championship games. Doyle did get a run out in the 2 league cup games, they beat Wycombe 4-0, and then lost to Southampton 2-0
Doyle has been on the bench in all the league games I think. He was on TV in Brum's Carling cup win over Wycombe(?), 4-0 I think and apparently made some very good saves when the game was still in the balance.
I hope Doyle gets his chance again and works hard. He's got a physique any keeper would kill for, very much in the James / Cech / Buffon mould.
Edit: oops, Tets beat me to it and was more accurate as usual too!
Thanks lads :)
At the end of the season before last I really though he was going to be the real deal. Pity it went so wrong at the start of last season but he is still very young, especially for a keeper, so he has time to come good again. He has the talent no doubt but consistency is what is required for a solid 'keeper.

Paul McShane made his first appearance of the season, on loan at Hull
Congratulations to Keith Andrews on making his first start in the Premiership, on his 28th birthday
Jonathan Walters, Michael Spillane, Jamie McCarthy Adam Rooney scored their first goals of the season
Donal McDermott made the debut appearance of his career, on loan at MK Dons
Also, Karl Moore has been added to the site: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroa...playerID=49842
Good start for McShane.
Ireland looked class for Man City again. I have the lads in the pub convinced of his ability anyway (barstool CSC). ;)
/ I should say, Sheridan came on for the last 10 minutes for Celtic yesterday. He had a shot saved from a corner and towards the end he got the ball in the corner, he ran past the Motherwell player with ease into the box and took the shot. He should have passed to the waiting Samaras. But Strachan definitely rates him which leads me to believe he has a great football brain. He's only playing the game a few years.
The Irish Wolves contingent are all flying high at the moment.
Kevin Foley in true Finnan/Irwin style is becoming mr consistent is without doubt the first defensive name on the teamsheet. Keeps it simple, gets up the line well and with a bit of premiership experience will be ready for the step up to International level.
Stephen Ward is the defying the boo booys with his committed displays and versatility. Currently playing left back and dare I say may have found his rightful position. Always good upfront, but is a bit too rough around the edges. However has earned rave reviews in his last two games at left back. Strong, fast and gets up the line really well crossing for our second. Could be a left back candidate in a couple of years if he keeps the run going - Evra started as a striker so funnier things have happened.
Andy Keogh started for the injured Iwulemo. Set up a goal and played well by all accounts. Problem is his lack of striking, as his creativity is quality. Moved to the left wing and Vokes came on to score two, so don't expect him to be vying for contention for one of the striking berths.
Garth Crooks, your man on BBC had him down on the subs bench in the team of the week. He obviously played well because there would be no reason for Crooks to pay attention to him.
He got an 8/10 on the Sky Sports ratings. I think he played right back though.
Another hat-trick for Kevin Doyle and 2 from Noel Hunt tonight.
Andy Keogh kept Wolves top of the Championship with his first of the season for Wolves and jay Tabb was also on the scoresheet for Coventry.
Relegation may not be a bad thing for Doyle so.
