Hey, get up outta that ya browl Dodge !! :p
You'd have to admit though, if it were not stipulated in the TV contract then you could nearly see RTE going with ManU over a domestic team. It would be a kick in the teeth but it would show their true colours. I think showing a domestic team is just a chore to them, dragging their feet, reluctantly having to go through the motions. Thats the impression i get off them constantly anyway.
I think using the word reluctant is wrong, their approach isn't the same as it is to a Group stage CL game or whatever, but thats simply down to the interest, if for example they got 500k viewers watching Drogheda tonight, then next year or if drogheda got to QR3 I'm sure their coverage would be better. They put limited resources to it, based on what they are getting back. RTE is a business at the end of the day, its not a charity. Its there to provide Entertainment to the masses.
Proving once again you didn't read the thread. We weren't talking about tonights game, we were talking about what would happen IF an irish team made the group stages.
And it is through gritted teeth. Those of us living here ;) have several friends working within RTE...
I believe there were some moves to get RTE to designate programmes as public service so that their use of funding could be tracked. I know TV3 made some noise about this claiming RTE were using licence fees to outbid them on commercial rights. Hard to argue with that.
Going slightly off topic but do TV3 provide their own footage for the GAA games or is it still done by RTE? Just wondering as TV3 have always claimed they did not have the outside broadcast resources.
I am surprised that Setanta have not picked up the rights to some of the less glamourous European games in recent years given their at times threadbare schedules.
I think the best RTE excuse over the years was when they claimed that they could not show a Uefa Cup game as did not have the rights to the remainder of the competition. I may be mistaken but I think around the same time they had lost the CL rights but still showed qualifying rounds for Celtic or Manchester United.
Well done tony for cutting off shoddy tonite, disgraceful self centred rant near the end, please keep him off the telly he is bad for the image of the league
Con Murphy and Richardson looked genuinley gutted about the late goal in the end.Cracking second half ,pity about late goal.
Pity about Drogheda last night, but it was a big step up in class
Just curious, but how much will Drogheda make from their European adventure? From TV rights? gate receipts? etc. And how much will they have to give to Bohs for Dalymount?
The money will definitely help Drogs big time
I thought it was an excellent display by drogs, very impressed by gartlan and cahil, overall the balance was really good - they can be very proud of their efforts.
sorry - posted this in wrong section, must be still in shock for giving drogs some praise
