From what I have read in the various league preview magazines that came out last week, the FAI are looking at this programme as an opportunity to bring eloi football to people who would not normally consider it to interest new supporters and therefore it needs to to be the leagues best product and in all fairness, that is not the 1st dividion
Alright, I want you to watch this tonight, then at the weekend watch Match of the Day, The Premiership, La Liga roundup, or Sky's football league roundup and honestly tell me that it will bring fans over from those programs. If it's true that RTE sent out two cameras to each game then the production values are going to be atrocious in comparison, nevermind the football on show.
This program is for LoI fans, and should appeal to all LoI fans, not just the ones that are in the top flight. I can just imagine the outpour on here if First Division fans decided not to bother with it and the show was cancelled due to lack of interest
And which of those shows show content from lower leagues? And if you think 2 broadcast quality cameras are atrocious, what would the camcorders clubs used last season look like?
This is the first week of somethign that could help the league. If it becomes a success, by all means look to expand but as it is, RTE agreeing to cover every premier game is a massive step up.
I'd hope that Sky's Football League coverage doesn't exclude all non-Premier League clubs, and I said 2 quality cameras (read 2 angles) are atrocious in comparison to what Sky and BBC use for their highlight shows, which is what this MLS show is in direct competition with for the minds of the barstoolers.
Again, why alienate a lot of people that would watch the show for the sake of 3 minutes of goal hightlights?
If RTE were really serious about developing the league, they would show 90 minutes of highlights every week on RTE2, in direct competition with MOTD. A prime time slot on Saturday evening. Putting it on 3 days later is useless, would they show an Ireland international 3 days after the game??
It provides an alternative to been force-fed Derby, Fulham, Portsmouth, and all the other teams in the PL that noone here cares about.
Has anyone read the blurb on the RTÉ site? Con Murphy: "Viewers love the behind the scenes shots, whether it's on the bus, in the dressing rooms, as players arrive at the grounds, etc. Who hasn't watched Thierry Henry arrive at a stadium with his big headphones over his ears, and wondered 'what song is he listening to now?' Maybe when the eircom League players arrive we'll be able to ask them!"
What? I'm sorry, what? They need to fire whoever did their market research. Obvious from the promotional pics that they're aiming for the affable-eeejits-down-the-pub approach so beloved of the BBC; no desk and all clad in jeans. This doesn't bode well.
I'll tune in tonight of course and see what they come up with. I can't say I'll be too pushed on catching it every week though if the First Division (and therefore my team) is ignored.. It really wouldn't kill them just to do a goals round up from the First Division!
I heard they had a camera at longford is that true
Looks like they wont be showing any first division games. The following is from eircomloi.ie:
MNS kicks-off tonight
RTÉ Television’s brand new hour-long dedicated Irish soccer programme MNS - Monday Night Soccer is set to kick off this Monday night at 8.00pm on RTÉ Two. The weekly live prime time programme will see the FAI eircom League of Ireland set to enjoy its most comprehensive television coverage to date.
The first programme will see presenter Con Murphy joined by Roddy Collins, Damien Richardson and Tony O'Donoghue for reviews and analysis of the weekend’s eircom League action including highlights of:
Drogheda United v Shamrock Rovers
St Patrick’s Athletic v Sligo Rovers
Galway United v Bohemians
UCD v Derry City
Finn Harps v Cobh Ramblers
Cork City v Bray Wanderers
cant wait to see to trip up, imagine cobh ramblers being the main thing on a highlight show, happy days.
Who said Cobh's game is the main highlight? Poor decision if true.
ye cant have the spotlight all the time jesus give us a break.
the hole thing their persuing is its the longest trip in loi and its the two new clubs, , first time in years a slight bit of media attention has being aimed our way can we just have it this week, rte wont show us now until 7 months down the line id say. :D
Ffs, that's pathetic. If I wanna know what music a Shels player is listening to I can just ask them. These aren't superstars and if they think they can con even the most Neanderthal like of barstooler into thinking this is the Premiership Mark Two they must all be snorting Roddy's plaster
