I think Givens has had a taste of the centre stage and he's beginning to like it....he's a pig ignorant, ego centric excuse for a manager....I'm surprised that more players haven't made themselves unavailable to him given some of his more ridiculous outbursts...If we haven't got a manager for the next friendl they should take Noel King from the womens team and make him caretaker, at least he's beginning to get results

Yeah, but we know Givens went to the press before the Brazil game and laughed off the idea of getting Trap, basically said he had no plans to talk to him, but would be interviewing Billy Davies by the end of the week. I think it's safe to say Givens had nothing to do with this appointment, and frankly looking at his record as U-21 manager, and the way in which he conducts his business, buffoon is too nice a word for him.

Givens has kept his cards very close to his chest and done the job he was given, which was to deliver a top manager. I doubt if his job description included briefing the press daily and not ot use third parties to make contact with potential candidates.
As regards his U21 record, yes it's crap but has nothing to do with this appointment.
Fair comment, but it's my opinion of someone who wont give someone credit for a job well done. The job description was to deliver a top manager and alls fair in love and war, and that's what was delivered. So what if he used Liam Brady or any other 3rd party to help find the right man. Amongst the main reasons for my constant harping on are :
Lie #1 : A 'world class' management team : It was an FAI employee, an unemployed pensioner, and a telly pundit thrown in two weeks after kick off for the recognition factor.
Lie #2 : John Delaney will have no involvement : Well, Paul Jewell can put the spike on THAT one, for a start...Rumours abound his fingerprints are on the Trapattoni negotitions as well. The man's a coward, and was afraid of being personally linked with another failure, hence no direct approach with the right attitude and attractive financial package, to a competent manager.
Lying is second nature to this man, and by extention, this organisation. If it was to be the 3 man committee charged with locating a manager, it should have been the three man committee. As it stands now, we are expected to admire the "cute hoors" who managed to snare Trap in some sort of bizarre 'black-ops' mission, while the 3 man panel were busily wasting our ticket money on hotel rooms & 'extensive research' on managers who seemingly had as much chance of ever getting the job as I did.
What about the managers, both old hands and young bucks who were made sit through this farce? The very fact that it had to happen at all is bad enough (I've covered the Headhunting versus interview panel subject elsewhere) but when Trap leaves (lets face it, at 69, it's not likely to be another 10 year charlton era) who will take the job if his assistants decline, I mean, once they see how the FAI is run, would they really want to stay?
When the vacancy arrives again Will anyone dare sit through another FAI "interview"? or would they be wary of being an unwitting accomplice to another incompetent FAI smokescreen?
If it's Trapattoni, They got the right man, and finally we have reason to be cheerful, but I can not go so far as to say that John Delaney deserves any personal congratulations, even though he was practically inviting as much when interviewed by T'OD.
I say this because his ineptitude, two-facedness and downright cowardice regarding approaching the right man led to us surreptitiously aquiring a manager by fair means of foul while our money was being wasted on what turned out to be pointless series of "interviews" conducted by clueless patsys. Finding Trap was fortuitous. I'll be very pleased if it works, but it was a fortuitous accident.
We've had that kind of thing before, and congratulations should not be forthcoming in their aftermath....If a Football team only barely manages to fluke it's way to victory in what should be a walk in the park, you dont say "congratulations on a hard fought 94th minute 2-1 win over San Marino, lads. Job well done". You fúcking roast them, because they got out of jail by the skin of their teeth, and if they'd stuck to their original gameplan, even THAT would never have happened, frankly we expect more from professionals.
According to Givens, he was the man instrumental through his Swiss connections in getting Trappatoni.
