Out of any club, Kilkenny do not deserve this at all. Its been run impeccably on a shoestring budget all down through the years. €50k is nothing in fairness compared to alot of other clubs fiascos down through the year.
Just want to say that right about now would be a good time to buy this book.
How do yuo order it Aface did you e-mail his newspaper company down in Kilkenny?. Its one book I keep meaning to get.
Often wondered how Kilkenny survived season after season..Any time I was at a match there in the last few seasons,the most home fans amounted to about 50 at the most.Jim Rattigan deserves a sainthood for keeping the club going against all the odds..Hope things work out for him..
I know some people who have bought it through the club, and its available through a newsagent in the City. After that i dont know but if there were people interested in it then i wouldn't mind calling up and picking up a few copies.Quote:

That's true of all clubs & players but Cobh have shown how it can be done on a smaller set-up & we have had some success in the past(our 2 promotions were hardly bankrolled).
My only complaint with City is too often the playing side has taken a back seat to developing a nice ground, how would any of you feel if your side had finished bottom of the table 4 years out of the last 5 or started the last game of the season with a defender in goal?
Even without the current problems in running the club, the whole club needs a change of emphasis because I cannot see how a Kilkenny side of the last few seasons would beat Sporting Fingal come end of next season.
How much does it cost to run a 1st Division club for the year? What kind of budgets do Monaghan, Wexford, Kildare, Limerick, etc. operate on? Does anyone have a rough idea/ball park figure?:confused:

That would be class if it were possible.. anyone come up with a ball park annual per person figure if lets say 500 people got involved? total fantasy of course - nobody get too outraged at the impracticalities!
Interesting from a business point of view.. people here often talk or bemoan the promotional activities of various clubs, could enough ideas come from here to turn the club into a profit making organisation?

The thing is, Cobh have alot of people involved in the club aside from the first team. Their underage/junior teams have always done well. Maybe more people involved in junior clubs in Kilkenny should get involved and help out.Quote:

There definitely is a problem between junior football in Kilkenny & Kilkenny City. The Junior league is strong enough as shown in the Oscar Traynor trophy every season but these players do not come through to City as they consider the top local clubs stronger. Young local players are often more likely to join Waterford than Kilkenny because they have seen how badly run they have been on the pitch the last few seasons.
City probably need to enter sides in the underage leagues so kids can start to associate with the club & progress through the ranks but given the financial situation this probably is not feasible
I think its unfair to lay all the blame on the playing side...forxample I've seen city play quite a lot over the last few seasons and never have I seen players from a club kitted out so badly, by that I mean drill tops, tracksuits etc. How can this be possible in a semi-professional set-up? Having said that I admire the club greatly and think the main cause of the malaise is the negative attitude of junior clubs towards their EL team. Up here that doesn't seem to be an issue....Quote:
