Stephen Elliott is poised to rejoin Mick McCarthy at Wolves after Sunderland manager Roy Keane accepted an offer for the Republic of Ireland striker this evening (Tuesday).
Elliott, who missed much of last season with a persistent ankle injury, has flown to his hometown of Dublin to link up with the rest of the Wolves squad, who meet Bray Wanderers in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.
He will undergo a medical and the finishing touches to the transfer are expected to be negotiated on Wednesday morning, with a three-year contract on the table.
McCarthy brought Elliott to Sunderland from Manchester City three years ago and will renew acquaintances with the 23-year-old forward at Molineux.
Elliott’s arrival at Wolves takes to three the number of Irish forwards in McCarthy’s squad: he will compete with fellow Dubliners Stephen Ward and Andy Keogh for a starting spot next season.
