It smacks of Devlin-ism to me. does stan or anyone in the FAI not see how blatantly obvious this is that devlin is pushing players like murphy into the squad?im sure the lad couldnt believe his luck.devlin probably went thru his phonebook and this is the only lad who hasnt gone on holidays yet.
It p8sses me off that a man like Pat Devlin has so much power when it comes to squad selection. has he even got many badges?? did he ever do anything of real note in Ireland?I could have been a scout for a premiership team and sent over 30 lads a year on trial and you can be damn sure that some of them would be good enough to play English League 1.... rant over
Revised Squad:
Nicky Colgan - Barnsley
Wayne Henderson - Preston North End
Colin Doyle - Birmingham City
Stephen Kelly - Birmingham City
Alex Bruce - Ipswich Town
Joseph O'Cearuill - Arsenal
Stephen O’Halloran - Aston Villa
John O'Shea - Manchester United
Kevin Kilbane - Wigan Athletic
Darren Potter - Wolves
Joe Gamble - Cork City
Stephen Hunt - Reading
Stephen Gleeson - Wolves
Alan O'Brien - Newcastle United
Kevin Doyle - Reading
Shane Long - Reading
Daryl Murphy - Sunderland
Anthony Stokes - Sunderland
Andrew Keogh – Wolves
Alan Bennett – Reading
Peter Murphy – Carlisle United.
Those in bold already capped at senior level. It's a poor attempt at a squad, O'Shea and Kilbane look like imposters in it! Alan O'Brien there again. Pat Devlin's influence becoming ever more evident
Peter Murphy has been an ever present player at his time Carlisle. He is at present unattached.
Have seen him play many times and is not a bad player at all.Good
left foot and is tough in the tackle.Don't know if he is International standard
tough. Was surprised to hear he was in the squad. He'll surely get a club now after this.
Isn't Keogh also "advised" by Devlin?
Is Damien Delaney or Paddy McCarthy injured? Surely either player is a better bet than Murphy or Bennett? What about Andy O'Brien? Is Peter Murphy a better option than Andy O'Brien? The call ups don't make much sense to me.
yes, paired with the frankly-stretching-my-policy-of-avoiding-direct-criticism-of-city-players Brian O'Callaghan and killian lordan rather than dan murray and danny murphy and without mssr joe gamble in front of him. lets just say it is not for nothing that "big" sam left after 70 minutes of the city-red star match saying he'd much rather pay the 12 million for bennett if he was 20 instead of 26.
zigic has since gone on to average a goal every second game for Racing Santander in La Liga.
So yes, i take issue with the idea that bennett would somehow be troubled by the presence of ken oman or graham gartland.
Jeesh, one game Gavin...
It's gone well beyond the stage of "but he's better than X and X is in the squad.
There's no analysing Stans selections.
Drogheda were asked by the FAI to release Gartland on Friday morning for the games but as the Eircom league wouldn't postpone to-nights game they rejected it.
With O'Shea out, Kilbane now has twice as many caps as the rest of the squad added together :D :D
