dcfcsteve, my outline of what a football supporter does is a description of what i, and most on this forum, do. it is irrational if you think about it. the undying support given to a team is if you really think about it not the most rational thing in ones life. the fact that you give your support regardless of the quality put in front of you, regardless of results or regardless of what backwater it may bring you to. it is irrational and i love it!

btw i agree 100% about the manogomy bit :D :D

Its a byproduct of natural selection. That is to say it is natural though not exactly what nature had intended. We found organising into groups gave us a natural advantage over other species - hunting, farming, defence etc. Supporting football teams is a byeproduct of that group mentality. It in itself serves no useful purpose but the thing that makes us do it does have a use.

I'm sure you and your mate had mighty crack, but that's private behaviour. It doesn't square with inviting people to think less of a football club because of it involvement by members of a particular creed.

As usual at this point I ask if you can provide historical sources for that allegation. They don't have to be web based, I'll take book referances. Needless to say I won't be holding my breath until you get back to me.


It seems to be some weird part of the psyche of the knuckle-draggers at Irelands most famous hooligan club that they seem to get their rocks off on the green side of Irish sectarianism. The casting of Bohs as evil unionist prodestants is the humorous :confused: side of it. But it also has a dark side, like posters inciting voilence on the Rovers message board in advance of the dubious "Love Ulster" parade, and all this without the mods intervening.

Calling a group of Irish (predominently) catholics from Dublin orange *******s is not sectarian, and never will be (in the Bohs/Rovers tradition).

I could not care less who our founder members were. I wasnt around then and I wasnt around when Bohs were founder members of the league in this country that we still play in.

As for board members drinking with the BSC, what about Mick Kearns, ex Hoops director standing with the Rovers casuals at the Ballybough end of Tolka Park taunting Djurgardens fans [whilst he was wearing Rovers blazer/tie etc]. Hardly the sort of behaviour you'd expect from a club director and it is something similar to which Ollie Byrne gets plenty of stick from Hoops fans about.

Lee Feeney got some 'dirty orange *******' chants at a football match. Shock Horror. Are you seriously telling me that no player has ever received similar chants from a Rovers fan ever?

From a small collection of footballers from Bella Academy, a Civil Service college in North Great Georges Street, founded in 1887, and who became Richfield in 1889 came some of our founders. They joined with some students from Dublin Hospitals and masters from the Hibernian Military school to form a new club in 1890.

They met at Gate Lodge in the Phoenix Park to have their first meeting in 1890. When the question of naming the club arose, there were two proposals, "Rovers" or "Bohemians"

The above is taken from An Outline History of the club as written by former president of Bohemians, Phil Howlin. Thats our history. Bohemian FC is a football club but has always hosted and encouraged other sports throughout its history and the only people who seem to have a problem with our history are Shamrock Rovers fans. I dont particularily care who our founders were. Bohemian FC is a football/sports club, not a politicial or religious association. You have a problem with that, I dont and the majority of Bohs fans dont really care who our founders were.

A section of Bohs fans have shouted sectarian abuse at Lee Feeney, but that happens at football matches and I am 100% certain Rovers fans [or fans of many other clubs] have roared sectarian abuse at opposition players and to be honest I dont really care. It happens.

The club has had problems in the bars and has dealt with them. The club was wrong to allow a story on a BSC flag on its official website and I seriously doubt directors of the club have 'stood' members of the BSC drinks at the bars.

As for the Mick Kearns incident, it happened, end of. Are the 400 club still accepting money from Rovers casuals?

I'm still not seeing the link between Bohs and evil British oppression.

I do find Bohs history during that period very facinating though. I believe Bohemians sent 20 odd players and staff to fight for the British Empire during World War I in the Dublin Fusiliers "Pals Batallions" - not anywhere near Shelbournes 40 odd. How many did Irelands Most Famous Boom-Bust Club send - well none because Rovers didn't exist. Was it one of the usual Rovers flash in the pan now you see us now you don't act, or maybe all the Rovers players, being great nationalist infiltrators of the staunchly British enclave of Ringsend were all in the GPO letting fly at those dirty orange *******s.

I have heard all kinds of objectionable **** shouted from the stands of Dalymount Park - just as I have from many other football crowds. But the differance between us an you is that when it happens at Bohs the more respectable posters don't come onto neutral message boards like Foot.ie condoning it and looking forward to the next time they get to act like arseholes.

Unless of course you are going to admit that neither yourself nor WAR are respectable Rovers fans.


As for asking to have the thread locked - I am doing no such thing. I could bait you all day and I love the Bohs/Rovers cut and thrust. But I know the mods don't love it and I am trying to steer clear of the whatabout whatabout game that you and BTID want to get into.

Could this thread be retitled as it hasnt been about Chris for some time.
