U16 cap Matteo Egan has had a run for Empoli's U20 side in the Primavera recently, playing 62 minutes against Roma's U20s on Friday

And 75 minutes against Lecce on the third

Unfortunately it looks like they're going to finish in the relegation play off spots against Bologna in Primavera 1, and their senior team looks like getting relegated from Serie A
Egan turned 17 in February, and will be underage for the U19s for next year's championship
After beating Crystal Palace's U21s last night, Southampton, including Romeo Akachukwu and Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh, will play in the PL2 Final against Manchester City

*2005
He should probably be in the squad to be honest. As an aside, well worth watching Owen Elding goal for Sligo tonight. Lots of people calling for him to be in the squad.
Meanwhile also in LoI, Melia and Noonan are going after each other goal for goal. Noonan scored his 3rd in 3 games and 5th of the season. Melia scored 2 tonight, making it 4 in 4 and 6 for the season so far.
Sorry, 2005, typo.
Mullen hasn't been involved with the national side since two U19 friendlies in October 2023

Interesting interview with Kevin Zefi in the Indo today. Touches on his own mistakes in recent years without elaborating too much (if some of the rumours that have gone around are true that might be just as well), but plenty of blaming others as well.
There's a message in there for the online hype merchant social media pages also, that I wish they'd listen to, instead of constantly building up every 16 year old Irish footballer as the next big thing.
Zefi thinks he still has one last chance to make it to the top of the game. I think he's blown it. Will be interesting to see if he can pull it back at this stage.
He plays the "concentrating on his club career" card when asked about his international future.
Came in to post the link, it's a good interview, displays a level of self awareness.
Had a rough time of it during covid.

Yeah a good and v interseting interview. Agree re the hype merchants, but also clear they are being fed stuff by people close to the player, ie video clips, updates etc. Works both ways. Damning on his advisors who he criticises. Why on earth send him to another Italian big club academy straight from another one that proved to be a disaster. Stephen Carr was in photo with him when signing for Roma (despite being banned from acting as an agent).

Hopefully he gets a break, allthough from the few photos i saw of him in the Sligo game he didnt exactly look lean and fit. Maybe understandable as said he's been sidelined by Roma since March.
also suprised by how little support he seems to have had out in Italy going by his interview. sent over at 16 and left to his own devices sounds like.
Celtic's Aidan cannon had a trial with stirling Albion earlier in the month
It does definitely come across as though there's unhappiness at Carr in that interview. But if he let him advise him over the second transfer, after the first one was such a disaster, maybe he needs to take his own share of that blame too.
He also wasn't adverse to a bit of self hype back at the time either, though maybe with hindsight the FAI shouldn't have done this promotional video with such a young player.
