The FAI have put in fairly strong criteria for clubs to be a memebr of the league. They include having decent stadiums, decent schoolboy set ups and to be solvent.

If the clubs lie and **** themselves up, what can the FAi do except remove those clubs (and be slated for it in all probablilty)

The FAI have tried to professionalise the league recently but too many club aren't willing to move up. They've tried to put in financial safeguards but too many clubs are willing to try and get round them

I still don't think the FAI does enough for the league but the majority of the problems within the league are the fault of club directors.

While I agree with you that clubs are ultimately responsible for the mess they're in, there's lots of clubs insolvent according to their most recent accounts, and the FAI have done nothing about it (as far as I can see anyway). Clubs are supposed to capitalise directors' loans, and this hasn't been done. They've not found cunning ways around it; they've just ignored the FAI. I'd blame the FAI for not enforcing their rules, which sound great on paper or in posts like that.

But its the damned if you do... factor. If Cork are thrown out, it will reflect badly on the FAI adn the league. The fact that its the right and proper thing to do doesn't really help. And again, the fact they overspent (etc etc) isn't their fault...

The main problem I have with the FAI is their complete lack of pro-active PR.

Agree. Just saying there's no point saying the FAI have set up financial safeguards when they ignore them themselves.

They haven't really though. Some clubs were warned they were getting close to 65% and transfer embargo put on them. The directors loan thing was always going to be fudged as the FAI can't be seeking direct investment and then only include lump sum payments up front

It's always hard to tell, but there's certainly a structure there to keep an eye on it - regular reports to an accountant and a committee to dole out punishments (and I've heard a few people mention these, so they are actually happening, I think). If there have actually been transfer embargoes put in place, then it's progress and commendable.

As a measure though, it's undermined by the licensing body's seeming indifference to insolvent clubs operating at a loss.

There was definitely a transfer embargo placed on Galway.

And Sligo if I recall correctly?

Though in fairness, despite acting otherwise, I suspect you do actually know that 'them' can, and regularly does, refer to one person also.

I didn't say it wasn't, why would I? I said there's a lot more to Irish football than the eL. Again you highlighted it and again got it wrong. Don't necessarily disagree with either of those, never have.
But what I said from the start, that you insist on missing is that Delaney has done better by the league than most of his predecessors, has tried out a few new things, or at least overseen the trying out of them, and seems to want to slowly sort things out. Whether it's enough, or quick enough, is not the point as it's not what I said.

I'm shocked and stunned ..... i'm grappling with this injustice and slur on my character, i mean i think the guy is a sound bloke ;)

But get back to it ...... i'd apply it to all beyond the green door, the purveyors and administrators of our game. Its a huge contradiction imo and something that should not be let away lightly. If its a witch hunt by a wild rabid mob to dole out some justice then i'd be all for it ;)
