In amongst the usual defensive stuff, he is right to state that the FAI should have made at least some effort to attract their beloved 95,000 along to an LOI game. Even if 0.5% of that attendance had been persuaded to take in an LOI game - statistically not infeasible - it would still have had a noticeable impact around the grounds.

A missed opportunity.

the point about free entry into a LOI ground with international stub, it should be purchase an international ticket at a LOI ground.

In relation to the 'pies photo' the guy is the Galway United fan who won the draw to join the squad for the Liverpool XI game, and he got a run for a few minutes at the end, don't know if he is a poster here

Nice, though, to see one of them finally make a tacit admission of what I always think - to me, these people being 'fans' of United, Liverpool or whoever is pretty much equivalent to being fans of Oasis or Jedward.

The difference being that football is inherently tribal. Music isn't.

The bands you swear you're mad about when you're 15 aren't generally the same ones you're into when you're 30. If only for the fact that musical tastes change, and bands don't last. Bands are inherently trasnient, as is music. Football is constant, so there is no comparison.

For example - the world's oldest senior football club still in existence is 148yrs old, and counting. Even the Rolling Stones, Beatles and Elvis combined haven't been around that long :D

And football is competitive as well, that's the key difference. A concert is specifically to showcase the talents of the musicians, a football match is there to try and find out who's better at football.

Suggested usage : The BG is killing me, think I'll head to dalymount this friday, if you fancy it. (unlikely)
More probable usagae: Feck away off back to your own board wi your BG

BG (Noun, abs.), The concept of justifying supporting a foreign team over one from your own country, using niggly reasons, and insisting that if they were put right, you would change your ways. Usage: "My mate Dave is riddled with BG. He won't come and watch Pat's because of the state of the ladies' jacks".
