He didn't make a late-life conversion to a certain order, did he?!
Thought someone would have posted up the news of Tommy (Gunn) Morrison's death. Ended up a sad kind of story despite all his promise. Remember watching some of his early fights on eurosport and then his destruction by Ray Mercer (the still photos of his last moments were horrific). Probably most famous for being the git in Rocky V, but a genuinely good fighter, decent chin, but the hype took over early. RIP.
A few days old now but boxer (and also film actor) Ken Norton who fought Mohammad Ali
Tom Clancy passed away. Was shocked to read he was only 66. for some reason I took him to be much older. While some of his politics were teeth suckingly scary, he created one of the real heroes of our time, Jack Ryan. And his book, Red Storm Rising, felt so realistic back in 1996 that it almost felt like it was happening with each page turned.
Phil Chevron, sadly missed. http://www.independent.ie/entertainm...-29643966.html
Found out a couple of odd ones today. Last week Chopper Read died aged 58. He was an Aussie hardman crim, wrote books and I think the biopic about him was called, Chopper. Saw an interview with him in 2007 (I think) on BBC and still don't know whether he was scary or just an idiot.
I think many people saw that Erich Priebke, the Nazi war criminal, did aged 100. He was part of the 10 for 1 massacre in Italy at Fosse Ardeatine and lived for 50years in Argentina. If anyone has seen "The Masacre in Rome" they'll realise just how shocking the event was. 5 of the more than 300 who died were part of the underground network being run by Msgr. Hugh O'Flaherty.
Bruno Metsu, French coach who beat France (then defending champions) 2-0 while in charge of Senegal in the opening match of the 2002 World Cup.

Hiroo Onoda
Hiroo Onoda, a Japanese soldier who hid in the jungle in the Philippines for three decades, refusing to believe World War II was over until his former commander returned and persuaded him to surrender, has died in Tokyo aged 91.
Hiroo Onoda waged a guerilla campaign in Lubang Island near Luzon until he was finally persuaded in 1974 that peace had broken out. He is rumoured to have killed 30 people during that time and was treated as a hero when he returned to Japan while he should have been sent to prison for murder.
Pete Seeger.
Active right up to his 90th year. It could have been a different story though. At the Newport folk festival in the mid 1960's when Bob Dylan brought on The Band in the 2nd half of his show, he reportedly was on his way backstage in a furious state, with an axe to cut the cable. He was held back just in time, dropped the axe and lived another 50 years.
Luis Aragonés died this morning aged 75..
Just breaking that Philip Seymour Hoffman has been found dead after a suspected overdose.
