Is it possible that CEO has a mate he is lining up to come in for Kenny?

Could the FAI afford a better contract? Could they afford a better contact than the Belgian FA? Did Barry want to commit himself to a longer contract in the first place? Even if he did, would that really have changed his decision to move from a side where beating Luxembourg is a positive to one that's made the quarter-finals of five of the last six major tournaments (including the Nations League)?
I do think we need a bit of perspective on our side at times to be honest. At best, I think we would have come away from it with a bit of extra compensation. That's all.
I guess we won't know now, but efectively we left one of the most talented young coaches in the game effectively out of contract. This is a reasnoble perspective. Pretty clear Barry was too upwardly mobile to be hanging round for years, not under any illusions about that. I wouldnt be able to dismiss outright the uncertainty of contracts and the mood music of too many backroom staff that the FAI put out over last few months as a factor in him walking though.
Darren O'Dea is coaching at Celtic, they've a load of Irish players in the youth setup
Judging by Kennedy's previous comments, he won't be getting involved in an Irish set up any time soon. Doesn't even watch us when we're playing. Comes across quite bitter about it all even though he was included in 2002 world cup squad an pulled out himself through injury.

Back to Mainz!!
Is it the length of contract and terms that the FAI are humming and hawing over, or is Kenny's future genuinely in doubt?
If so, you can only surmise that they have another name in mind. But who might that be?
That seems sensible.
I, personally, would be of the mind that, notwithstanding Barry's defection, given the recent signs of progression and improvement, and with no-one obvious and available to replace him, Kenny should be afforded more time - though not on a stupidly long contract.
Now that the record for season tickets sold has been broken i wonder will we hear anything about Kennys contract?
According to the FAI it’s a new record anyway: https://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/fai-...tic_FLINhj3PGY
How long have we been selling season tickets for though? Back when we were good it used to be that you had to buy for every game to keep your seat for the following one, but there were no season tickets as such. So it's probably not as big a deal as it sounds.
That's... not the question that was asked though.
The previous record was 16,500 in 2018/19 (per the FAI).
From googling online, I think they were launched in 2011, after the infamous corporate ticket fiasco. And then the FAI set match ticket prices such that it was cheaper to buy individual tickets... See https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/...-26731086.html
So not that long (you can rule out two years due to covid too) - but we've had two Euro qualifications in that time, so to top those ticket sales when we're about as bad as we've ever been does mean something I think
So it is a record since we started selling season tickets then?
It is.
But if we started selling season tickets in 2022, it would be a silly record.
And if we started selling season tickets in 1972, it'd be a more impressive feat.
I'm not sure why the silly response to what's a reasonable question.
Ok at least we can all agree its a record, that seems settled.
Why it annoys people is another question i guess.
The only thing that's annoying people is utterly unhelpful answers to perfectly valid questions. Should be fairly clear why that's annoying.
That original "block booking" system was in place since immediately after Italia 90 I think. Even then the number of tickets sold which guaranteed you tickets in future were lower than this number. They're somewhat comparable I'd say.
There's definitely something happening in domestic football though. LOI attendances and ST sales high, MNT ST sales high, WNT getting good crowds. Are the Irish getting turned off by petro-countries buying football?
Fuppin hell, lads are very sensitive about very little here
I still think it's a bit premature, unless there's a get-out clause for the FAI after the Nations League if things go badly. Still, at least the papers will shut up about it.
Shame they couldn’t have wrapped it up sooner. If they had it all sorted in November, Barry might be still there

I just don't get it... just wait until after the June games and then if all fine give it to him... its terrible business
I've no issue with it to be honest - the games in June will be over in three months, and that's not much of a contract to offer
It's a show of faith on the FAI's part for the improved performances at the end of 2021 as well
His contract as we speak is until July AFAIK?
