Sacked for doing what? they are doing better in the league than last season. Managers can only do so much with the players they have at their disposale

Just saw 2 articles in the Mayo News + Con Telegraph about the sacking of O'Connor as Westport Manager
He really feels hard done by what happened and by reading the article he has every reason to be
Read the Mayo News one myself, seems 4 players spoke on behalf of the team to get rid of him. I see Brian Kennedy was not answering his phone, does that mean he is 1 of the 4??
A disgrace really, cannot see any manager jumping at the chance to take them over now, players over managers!!
I read the report online here in Athens. It would surely spark a debate amongst the Westport faithful. It wouldn't be the sort of story to advertise the club with.
You think maybe the commet teee are trying to blame use the players as an excuse?
:eek:Check Mayo Thread. 2 more gone at Town :eek:
Look beyond the results, Westport won the title and cup in a league where the standard has dramatically dropped. Ballina would have won it if their squad had been bigger. Westport have been playing shakily all season with the ball spending more time in the air than on the ground, our pass and move football is gone due to it not being coached in the players, we spend more time trying to win back posession than attacking, I dont remember the last time the goalkeeper did not take a long goal kick ,if a team are going to training and just having a jog and a kickabout with no coaching of set piece work, the results are evident on the pitch. If the manager is not drilling a system of play into the players in training ,then the team goes into games playing haphazardly.
If the team continue to play to the level that they have been playing the team will get slaughtered in external competitions, and will be found out.
Brendan had one of the most talented sides in the country and if you cant acheive something (even with injuries, there were a few replacements in the B squad but he never went to the B games, he should have - Chris Ryder - as Cam was injured, Ronan OMalley- as Gerry is in OZ , and Busty - their best player this season, comes to mind) there is no hope for you.
one of the hang men....explain yourself.... your really are a joke
So which one of the 4 are you???
Westport were the team with lots of injurys all season and not Ballina Town.If you look at the results they got and just checked Soccerbot there and if you add the cup games they won 22 games from 26.Also best Definsive record in the league and scored a lot of Goals too
Not a bad run from a decimated squad all season.
He was at a few of the B games and from what i hear did get regular reports from the B team management on players as couldnt travel down to all games from Galway like
Who in the B team was better than the players he picked for the A team as a matter of interest
Would you have played 2 very inexpierienced players on the wings as in R O'Malley + C Ryder??
Busty was there best player probably but is he a better full back than Joe Lawless or Colin Navin or a better Centre half than Lovejoy,Eoghan,Peter,Austin
Sure the games they played they easily created chances in double figures every match and it was due to poor finishing - is that the Managers fault??
Sure he achieved a league + Cup double and nearly a treble with an injury hit squad - what would he achieve with a fully fit Squad then??
this really makes me laugh, its just like the chelsea & "the special one". all chelsea players liked "the special one" bar 2,and the 2 helped get him the sack.just like westpost!!. chelsea won lots playing not the most attractive football (but still WON), just like westport!!!. chelsea now want to play like spurs(but they have WON f**k-all)..just like westport!!!.
i bet the other 9 teams in the super would like BOC to manager them and win both & league in one season..
the infamous 4 hang your heads in shame !!
