Mamma Mia :D
Surprisingly not quite as sh*te as I might have expected. :o
did anyone watch "The Last Castle" last night.
deadly film
I saw Avatar yesterday. Hugely disappointing.
While the expressions on the animated faces were brilliant and it technically looked good, it's just such a poor, dull, obvious story. White Man goes native and ends up fighting the white man. 'Dances with Smurfs' sums it up.
It's just so badly written; all the Anti-Iraq War/Mother Earth mumbo Jumbo they beat you over the head with [in some language Cameron invented] left me thinking about that Captain Planet cartoon from the early 90's. Also, the ripping off of huge chunks of earlier Cameron films [Alien in particular] left me with the sense that Cameron was more interested in 'groundbreakng new cinematic techniques' than making a film people could sit through.
Reminded me a lot of when I saw the recent Star Wars efforts.
They looked impressive but I left the cinema wishing Lucas [Cameron in this case] had bothered to hire someone to write a story that the technical tricks would work around.
I'm sure it's going to make it's money back, but it's [effects aside] a dismal effort.
Visually stunning.
Entertaining enough. Ok the plot is Dances with smurfs but I enjoyed the show.
Get Rich or Die Trying. 8/10.
Local Hero - meant to be a bit of a classic but I stopped after 30 minutes, far too slow and the jokes are way to old for a modern audience. Which was a pity as I was looking forward to it:mad:
watched boy in the striped pj's tonight
good film sad ending 8/10
A Righteous Kill. Decent film with a good twist at the end.
Watched the new Morgan Freeman movie called Invictus last night. Its about South Africa winning the 1995 Rugby world cup. Entertaining enough without being spectactular.Morgan Freeman was very good
surely there are better stories to tell about Mandela than the rugby world cup?
It focuses on the healing power of sport and the move by Mandela to wear Francois Pienaar's shirt, embracing the White Afrikaner captain etc... it's a feel good angle and was a pretty momentus moment in recent SA history.
Other good movies about recent SA history;
