Can you give us a link to said forums? Not that I don't believe you, but I watched the match today and he would have been rated 1/10 in my estimation
By the way Colbert....are you a mountie?
I am not, although I did apply to become one several years ago.
The whole team played terribly, so perhaps that disperses some of the attention away from him from a Sunderland supporters perspective. I've not had a look, but I'm sure there must be something on his performance. Either way, I'm singling him out because he was the only Ireland player in the side and I'd be worrying if I saw him play like he did yesterday in an Ireland shirt.

It would be unfair to single out O'Shea as the whole team was terrible. You could have put Terry or Kompany in that defence and they'd be terrible:D
Sadly O'Shea's days as a top flight player over (just as SAFC's days as a top flight team is over) but at least O'Shea will put a shift in. The 4-3-3 formation didn't help with the pace on the wings for Palace. Plus when you have players like Rodwell and Gomez in front of you with their hearts the size of a pea in front of you, you're going to struggle. But at least O'Shea is putting the effort in and cares about the team. He is one of a handful of players who can hold their head up and say he tried. You can't fault him for that. It's a shame his best days are gone:cry:
That's true but it's hard to blame him for the dreadful ones. When O'Shea has been caught out, it's often been in games where he's been under heavy pressure due to the fact that much of the rest of the side are in disarray and, in particular, they can't keep possession in the final third. They're also porous in midfield with Cattermole ploughing a lone furrow, and he hasn't been available always.
I think O'Shea has been victim more of poor management and teammates than he has been victim of old age or inability. I'm probably biased in saying that but I think the fact that he still manages to put in stellar performances demonstrates that his powers haven't waned completely.
I agree. To single him out is unfair. At least you know JOS will put a shift in and won't let you down for commitment. His best days are behind him now but still he has being a key player for SAFC. Sunderland are more or less a Championship side playing in the Premier League.
Josh will be a Premier League player for another year. A clean sheet at the Emirates helps Sunderland to get the points they need to stay up. Man of the match too.
Analysis - Will it be Kaboul or O’Shea in defence for Sunderland at Leicester?
http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/...ster-1-7388912
Looks like they should have went with O'Shea....
Now 5 goals conceded in 2 hours of football for Sunderland.
Come on, Dick. You are being stubborn. Redeploy O'Shea.
Edit: 6 goals conceded in just over 2 hours of football for Sunderland.
Tick tock, Dick. Tick. Tock.
Edit: A combined 7 goals conceded against the mighty Leicester and Norwich now.
If your manager thinks Younes Kaboul is better than you it's time to retire John!!!
JOS legs have gone and may that's the reason but he still has it up top. You can see how badly organize the defence and the team is without O'Shea.
His legs seem OK when he plays for Ireland. Perhaps more legs are required for the sort of aimless running about Sunderland specialise in.

John O'Shea to return to the Sunderland side. Advocaat stating he was dropped due to pre-season performances. I reckon they were just a blip because, I'll say it again, he was pretty imperious against Scotland quite recently.
Yeah, starts instead of Kaboul.
0-0 after 20 minutes so his legs seem to be holding up.
Two and a half matches into the season and Sunderland are now two to one on to get relegated.
What are you on about broken brain? He's 34, of course he's not going to have the same level of fitness as he did 3/4 years ago. He looked a yard or two of the pace in pre-season. But his experience and leadership is vital. You could see how well the defense was organized on Saturday. He's an intelligent player so he knows he has to have those '5 yards of pace' in his head. You're making it out as if I said he was in a wheelchair!!!!
Saw him being out jumped for one of the Exeter goals last night. We need O'Shea at the top of his game.
Starts at home to West Ham as Sunderland take an early lead through Fletcher.
Gone off with hamstring injury in derby!
Didn't see it posted here, made his 400th Premier League appearance last weekend. According to OptaJoe, Richard Dunne and Shay Given are the only other Irish players to have done this: https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/675678683689033730?ref_src=twsrc^tfw
I looked up who the Irish player with the next highest amount of Premier League appearances, and currently playing in the Premier League, is.Quote:
400 - John O’Shea will be the third Republic of Ireland player to reach 400 PL apps after Shay Given (443) & Richard Dunne (431). Charm.
Was a little surprised actually, any guesses?
Glenn Whelan or James McCarthy? I'd probably go with Whelan out of those two for obvious reasons but McCarthy has a serious amount played for his age, so wouldn't be surprised if it was him.
Right so we have a choice of Coleman, McCarthy, Gibson, Wilson, Brady, Hoolahan, McLean, Whelan, McGeady, Long and Walters (hope I haven't forgotton anyone obvious there). Has to be Whelan ??
Just thought of Given? Is he considered 'in the squad' seeing as he only missed out through injury? Technically he's still in the PL too, if not quite 'playing' in the PL.
Nope, none of those. Whelan was my first thought too, but he's second on the list.
Given's ahead of O'Shea on 443 appearances, I'm looking for the player who's after O'Shea, and currently in the Premier League
Keane has 343 Premier League appearances, but is playing in MLS so it's not him either
Had a look through the most recent squad and I'm completed baffled. Can't see how anybody else in it could have played more than Given/Whelan/McCarthy. Extended squad member, perhaps?
Stephen Ireland perhaps?
He actually was the first player I thought of! I knew it'd be someone odd, and not only do they not come much odder than Mr. Ireland, but he's been playing EPL football for the best part of 10 years now.
Y'know, I bet at the time, with Stan in charge, he never thought his stayaway antics would mean he'd miss playing in a tournament for Ireland. Fair chance it'll be four by the time he hangs up his boots and flys off into the sunset with his angel wings and Superman y-fronts....
BT's man of the match in Sunderland's 2-1 win over Man Utd today.
Only saw the last 20 minutes and he was very good. The only leader on the park actually. I think he'll have enjoyed this win too.
I only saw second half and to be honest it wasn't exactly backs to the wall stuff for Sunderland, they were comfortably the better side.
Brought on as a sub with a couple of minutes to go to protect the 0-1 advantage for Sunderland and loses his man for the goal :(
