agreed - cant find anyone, not to mind a pike man saying they'll have it handy in cork, an over active imagination no doubt.
experience will count for an awful lot at this stage of the competition as past winners have shown. Had waterford crystal been in two or three finals in the last few years. Westport were knocking around for a long time as well, fairview were winning them for fun at one stage.
taking experience into account i think the winner will come from one of Pike, Portmarnock, Clonmel, Carew, Killester, Carrick
i think this year it could be one ot the teams that have been knockin on the door for the competition to step up and win it,they say that you have to lose a final b4 you get that little bit of somtin that makes you a better side and then next time round you take your chance, clon or killester would be my call too,but this year there have been so many surprises that there could be 2 new sides playin in it,be great for the game,at the last 16 stage only the best sides that have taken there chances and fought hard to get to the last 16 are left, the bounce of a ball an who ever wants it more thats why its the best junior competion in europe any one with enough bottle and a big slice of luck can win it:)
that my good friend is up to the gods, getn him back would be an unbeliveable bonus,as would damien peelo and goldsmith, but time is not on there side and all we can do now is wait, and hope the treatment room can work there magic, figos injury is not good news to hear,on his day and on form playin up at o'neill park, which he has made his home,i would fancy him against any defence in the country, junior wise, hes that good, his partnership with jon paul o'sullivan is fantastic to watch, there both so quick and have bags of skill,if figo was available for the clon celtic and the peake game it would have been reflected in the score line a bit more and if we can get him bcak even to have on the bench for the game along with peelo and goldsmith you would have to fancy grattan at home, especially with there work rate, the pitch wont suit a top side like pike, when you get used to playin ball weekin week out with footballin sides on great pitches you loose the ability to raise your game,in a physcial sense, because you think you can play your way out of trouble,o'neill park maybe small compared to pikes or peake pitch but grattan play it to a tee, they are a footballin side first an foremost, but they are fully aware that sometimes you have to grind out results the hard way, experience tells you not panic and keep yourshape play ball an the result will come, grattan are young fit and have a never say die attitude, when peake equalised ,grattans players didnt panic they knew if they kept fightin for every ball they would get another chance, the rest is history, come on the grat

its hard to judge having a certain player would have resulted in a different scoreline for yer games with clon and peake. clonmel celtic could say the same about having thier 5best players missing including one who is the top scorer in the tipperary league. at the end of the day it's 11 versus 11 and no point in saying what could have been
was just reading in the daily star today, were ye in the second tier only 2 seasons ago? fair play for turning things around if ye were. have ye much of a setup regarding other teams there and facilities??
3 seasons ago grattan were promoted to the premier in cork for there first time in there 75 year history (which was mostly spent just below the premier)finished 5th and won the mossie linnane shield, the premier league cup so to speak, much to the credit of team manager eddie o'riordan, the next year due to 2 terrible family losses within the club the very heart of the club just seemed drain away because were are such a close nit club and we were relegated, last seasons manager pat caulfield ,who had previously managed a very sucessful grattan side returned along with a few players that had tried greener pastures, the gained promotion as champions, winng the cork aul premier A at a canter, they lost 1 game all season, the last one, beaten in the semi finalists in the league cup again ,and have started this season where they left off,so far unbeaten in all competions over 90 or 120 mins, ballypheane dont count cause that was on penalties,we have our own pitch, its not small, but it aint turners cross size, slightly sloped, but the surface is excellent and we call it home,we also have a fully lit allweathertraining pitch and car park,at the moment the dressing rooms are on of those specialisd outfitted 40 mcontainers but planning for our new dressing rooms has been applied fro and construction should be completed b4 the start of next season,we have 2 sides our premier side and our second tier side which is made up of mostly older a team players who couldnt commit this year or young prospects, i hope that is of some help,,,ps grattanwre semi finalist in the fai in 1982 beaten in dublin
mate no disrespect or anything but pike are playing in the most competitive league in the country against some of the most physical teams in the country, and on some of the biggest cabbage patchs in ireland so we wont be found wanting on any of those counts.
ye seem to fancy yer chances in a big way
so true there its probably the worst pitch in ireland against one of the most physical sides in the country
wembley v woodview celtic fixture provisionally fixed for 11 th feb subject to an appeal from corduff......
Our grievance was with the actions of the ref, not with woodview, i dont think a grivence with a ref has ever had a game replayed or so forth. it was an injustice what happened and ruined what was looking to be a very good game.
blanch gazette came out, reporter stated everything that happened in a nut shell which was welcome from a man who has been involved/followed junior football before I was even born I would say.
We will complain to the FAI and will lodge a motion through the relevant channels to have a rule/option "if desired" that any team in the open draw can request and pay for a neutral referee/linesmen.
I think home advantage is enough for any team as a result of a favourable draw as opposed to a home draw/plus league official "certainly there was ambiguity towards the same ref against the same opposition in the previous round". A different referee would have dispelled any suspicion. I dont know if the referee intentially cheated, but the home town league appointed him due to his "supposedly infamous" reputation!
So an appeal is unlikely on our behalf. Our complaint will not even be considered as far as im led to believe!
mitresize5,meant no disrespect by my comments, just the opposite in fact,i am well aware of pikes history, past and present, they are one of the favourites on merrit,no problem, but it would be stuipid of grattan not to have a little bit of confidence, playin at home, grattan arent exactly a small side either,my comments about pike were just that they have a great set up as do the majority of the good munster sides and that grattans pitch though decent was not as good as pikes, from what i hear pike can play ball as well as well as bein physcial, grattan will not be lackin behind them in any respect,on those points,i know for a fact grattan will be expectin a good physcial battle, with some good football played buy both sides, grattans last 2 games went to xtra time and were very phyiscal encounters,we are not expectin this to be much different:cool:
if the grattan peake game goes to extra time i believe it will stand to grattan as they had 2 tough previous games. are the referees now from outside leagues? who'l b reffin the killester town game
for the last 16 the referees have to come from outside the league of the home side, not outside the county, outside the league, hence, munster senior leagues refs will do the grattan pike game because though based in the same county as grattan they are from a different league,
Hooperlooper do you know anything about rockmount. They have a tough game against carew park in fai this weekend.I saw rockmount play in limerick 2 years ago in munster jnr against a regional side and they gave them a good run for it on that day.Is it the same team!
strange game this one no one seems to know anything about this rockmount side there quietly tipping away and got an excellant win again killarney celtic in kerry. we all know about carew and what they can do on there day the winner of this game has a nice home draw to reach the last 8. you would imagine if carew sneaked past rockmount and with a home tie in next round they might start to believe they can do what they did 2 years ago why not. o ya except dont play an ilegal player.
not a bad side, they can be quite physcial at times though, very fit and their manager james cocran is very good so they are a well drilled bunch, grattan knocked them out of the mjc last season on there own pitch and our game plan ws imple dont leave them settle, even the msl junior sides are very good and spreadin the ball around, there problem is that they expext you to give them that time and when you close the down the y just cant seem to play as a team anymore, msl junior sides in general think they are above everyone else so give them no time on the ball and play a fast game and it wont suit them one bit because they are so used to dictatin the pace, ,if it was us playin them id hit everything down the throat of the center half,he trys to play to much ball, there sweeper can also be guilty of the same and he aint quick enough to make up 4 his mistakes, they do try to play ball though, there center forwards tend to lean on the large side ,so you would be better off man markin with a sweeper, there center mid field is good but dosent support the front two much, the league they play in is ok ,try to isolate there center backs because the play quite high up the pitch as well, rockmount park is a neat and tidy pitck not to big or small so a quick wide man and a large pairing up front will cause them problems, the only guy id worry about if he is even playing would be there tall center forward plays like kanu ,hes xcellent but im not sure if he is available, but on the whole a top junior side should take them, just beware they will have great support on there own pitch an that can sway the refs so id try to keep the refs in my good books, they will probably be aul refs, funny bunch, wont put up with any back talk and blow for small things a lot.:ball:
