North Macedonian.
It's a proper country, but as countries go, they're trolls - don't feed the trolls. :) So North Macedonia it is.
Also a beautiful spot if any Rovers fans are going (provided there's no reception for them...)
I get why they're annoyed about the price, TBF.
They charged €2.40 for a ticket for the Dinamo Zagreb game. To put that in context, it'd be the same as Derry fans paying £100 for a stream.
Love the statement though. Proper 'Greatest League in the World' vibes off it.
They were quick to pick up the whole Shamrock Rovers being evil stuff!
Shkupi loopy indeed.
For what it's worth (and you never know!), new Steaua beat Dunajska Streda 1-0 in Slovakia last night. Winners face Sligo/Viking next
Basel v Brondby is a heck of a tie for the third round actually; they'll both be ****ed with that. The winners will have an easier tie next, whether it's Pat's or CSKA Sofia
Sligo 1-0 down already.
Just like in the first round - and that ended alright!
Sligo 2 down….
Don't wanna curse it but Pats v comfortable so far. Cotter is his usual enigmatic self. Just had a beautiful turn and danced away from 2 CSKA lads.
Pats doing well so far, but signs that CSKA are starting to turn the screw a bit.
Doyle looks old at times. If he has to sprint a bit he's gassed for about it 5 mins.
Pat's need to slow the tempo and run the clock where possible.
It's obviously hot over there, and while there is passages of slow play, CSKA have some very pacey players when they get going and it's clearly taking it's toll staying with them.
Pats defenders all playing well, the attacking players struggling to get into the game though…
Buckley went of injured for Sligo aswell, big loss for them that….
Pat's doing alright here. But CSKA look dangerous down the left.
Now ye lads mention North Macedonia why did they change the name of their country? Wot was that about?
Greece. Macedonia is in Greece and starts there. It actually covers a few countries. There was a dispute so they agreed to change the name.
As the above states, and if they want to join the EU they can't have Greece objecting.
So coming to an agreement on the accepted name of their country (that the Greek's were okay with) was a must.
I think North Macedonia is also in what was historically Greek territory (hence the new name) but the Ottoman Empire messed a lot of that region up. There was some forced repatriation after it ended (around 1916 I think) but Yugoslavia got what's now North Macedonia as it was populated by Slavs rather than Greeks. It's not a historic race in the way Croats/Greeks/Turks and so on are - I think they're most closely connected to the Bulgarians, though their language is really just a dialect (if not even an accent) of Serbo-Croat.
The Albanians in North Macedonia (Mother Teresa the most famous example) are different again of course, and there's been tensions between the groups. Also, gun ownership is quite high...
Strangely, Bulgaria is now their biggest obstacle to the EU. I think Bulgaria makes a bit of cash on the side selling dodgy passports to North Macedonians (given their relatively close links). Negations with Bulgaria on that started last week.
Anyway, that's your half time entertainment. Back to the game :)
"You know we were talking earlier about Dostoevsky?"
Cotter booked there for absolutely nothing…
There's a serious lack of pace in the final third for pats
Why was Forrester trying to control a cross it would have brought him way to close to the endline anyway. Naive.
A third for Viking.
Guess you can hope for a result at home when Viking are relaxing
This ref is officially on one now, firing out the cards!
Doyle thanking God he was offside there!
4-0 in Norway now
Pats tiring now,needs a freshen up…
Ah come on Sligo it's getting embarrassing now.
No other match in europe tonight has more than a 2-goal difference.
It was always a lot to ask of Sligo to repeat their Motherwell heroics, and this was bonus territory tonight. Still, nobody likes getting stuffed 4 nil with 25+ minutes still to play. Just tuning in to the Pats game now. Seem to have been holding their own so far?
Can imagine Motherwell fans are fuming watching that score
