so if authorities stood ref down for missing the dive.. they have to take action against player then

Its the rules that are the problem. They cannot revisit the incident as the ref has already seen it and made a decision. The ref is stood down for the bad decision, they need to amend the rules to allow trial by video evidence after the fact.
If players are likely to get retrospective bans based on video analysis then all this cheating will decline but it will never stop fully until teams are docked points for cheating.
If that was the case then Chelsea would have been relegated out of the league since they signed Dropba:D
fifa revisited the incident to ban eudardo for his dive against celtic ?? but then changed their minds  as far as i know f.a can ask referee to review incident and he then is supposed to review and reply on what decision he should have made ... as for chelsea getting relegated over drogba i don't have any problem with that :D
Dear GIT,
If you look more closely at the post I was replying to and my own subsequent response you will find that the 2 subject matters were a) Steven Gerrard and b) Arsene Wenger.
Can you advise where Rafa Benitez was mentioned by me there? Coz I don't recall referring to him or his policy at all. I personally at this stage would wish to see Rafa gone, therefore why on earth would I be trying to defend him anymore anyway? Glasshouse my ....!
My post relates SPECIFICALLY to Arsene Wenger and Angus' crystal-ball comment about Gerrard's future fitness. Absolutely nothing to do with Benitez. So off you go and bang your head off a glass house mate.
P.S. Weather getting cold, rain falling, unattractive away fixtures in winter..there goes Arsenal's title challenge...AGAIN.
Cheers
Well ok I'm glad you cleared that up and what you are saying makes a bit more sense. But only time will tell about how his style of play will affect his fitness in the future really, It's true he won't be gung-ho when he's 36/37, but surely he can fire on his current cylinders for another 2/3 years at least.....if they don't sort things out though who knows it may not be at Anfield where his career starts to fade...............
I doubt Fernando is missing the Spanish sun just yet...but how long will he hang around is the question....
As for Wenger and his age policy..a bit daft I think but you cant knock the guy for some of the signings. Rafa signs a young player and sends him on loan to Greece or somewhere meanwhile our 2nd strikers can;t hit a barn door. YYAAAAWN i'm getting bored of complaining!!!!!!!
Did anyone see Gerrards dive at the weekend, not as much as a word about it on motd. It just stinks the way english players get off with this sort of thing with Gerrard being the biggest offender.
and hes had more than his fair share.

If he could have stayed on his feet despite the (minimal) contact and he goes down then its a dive. ;)
Gerrard does himself no favours at times either.
Sure you'll find a youtube clip to prove anything :D

so you admit contact was made .... if so it was a penalty then.
most current players will go down these days under the slightest contact or no contact... but think the argument is that gerrard more than any other english player has been doing it for years and getting away with it by the english media
You can tell from the replay there was the slightest bit of contact but contact doesn't automatically make it a penalty, if Rooney hadn't gone down there wouldn't have been one. Its the dive that makes the penalty not the contact.
Theres no club immune from it but the Rooney clip shows he's up/down there with the best.
To be honest both players are guilty of the odd tumble, but gerrard in a lot of cases manufacturers the contact with this little kick to the oppenant as he falls. In either case the FA should study this and just hand out a ban for blatant diving.
Benitez sold Keane, Bellamy, Crouch, Riise, Alonso & refused to take on Michael Owen. Now he's left with the likes of Insua, Voronin, N'Gog & Lucas. Tells its own story really. I think Rafa has lost the plot altogether.
Can you elaborate because as far as I can see Crouch and Bellamy would have stayed if they weren't used so sparingly, Keane was absolutely rode and Alonso was treated badly the summer before he was sold. I think Riise was playing poorly for quite a while when he left alright. Maybe I am missing something though?
As for the players mentioned that are there now, Insua looks reasonably promising and is young so I'd leave him alone, Lucas and Voronin are pathetically bad and Ngog looks ordinary at best, but again is young so I wouldn't be too hard on him yet.
I know I shouldn't bite because I'll be shot down for this..but here I go..Gerard, Torres world class. Reina, Johnson,Mascherano and Carragher are all top players. Agger, Kuyt,Bennythejew are very good. Skertel, Aurelio, Riera decent. Lucas, N'gog, Insua have potential. Babel, Voroninin terrible and Aquilani unproven but hopeful he will be a top player.
Based on that in order to compete with UTD/Chelsea over a full season we need a top left back, centre back, 2 wingers and a striker about 70 millions worth - no chance of that:o
