The start of last season was a complete transition for us, pretty much the entire squad left and all new players were brought in, mostly from the minor team progressing to junior, we had a bad start and looked in a bad way but the talent that was there was never in doubt really, just a matter of standing up and being counted. This season we've lost a few players but the signings we've made have really kicked us on, we're gettin good numbers training and there's great commitment there...we're not gettin carried away tho, long season ahead and we know you get nothin for a good start
Sunday 05th October
Shannon Town v Hill Celtic, 10.30. 2-2
Seen the match. Need to put some kind of balance in these crazy posts. Referee was a disgrace. Pallas scored twice - once player was clean through on goal, centre half took him down, as forward was goin down, got a toe to the ball and poked it past the keeper. Ref blew, hesitated...centre forward said "ref if its not a goal, then its a sending off!", ref gave free out to charleville!!
Same scenario in 2nd half. same centre half pulled down the same player when he was through on goal, right on the 18 yard line....centre half stood up and held up his hands admitting liability, ref gave him a yellow!! Is that not a red card offence??
Or what about the free kick that was scored by Pallas from about 10 yards outside the box on the right hand side? Player stuck it without anyone gettin a touch on it, ref disallowed it and said it was indirect!! This when Charleville had formed a wall!! Why form a wall if the kick is indirect from a crossing position??
That player got injured but it was from the melee that the Charleville No 6 (Brian Fitzgibbon) started by punching the Pallas left back in the mouth. There was a bit of handbags then trying to break up the row when Charleville no 10 waded in and clocked one of the centre halves...then all hell broke loose...and the no 10 was the guy that ended up going to hospital. The whole charleville line ran in, then the pallas subs. There was about 25 charleville people against 15 pallas.A complete melee. I thought they were going to get massacerd because of sheer numbers...but two charleville guys got knocked out somehow despite the numbers, then the fight subsided. I hope that no 10 is allright, but from what I seen, dont start a war if you didnt bring your guns!
Up Kilfinane!
...maybe that was because 2 pallas players got clocked before the full melee broke out...and do you think the ref (must have been a charleville guy!!) would dish out the appropriate punishment?? not a chance! Standard of refeering for a munster junior cup game was so poor I cant believe it. Was talking to a couple of charleville supporters (who didnt run into the melee) before the melee actually started, and he said he felt sorry for Pallas for 2 perfectly good goals disallowed, and the fact that Charleville centre half should have been sent off TWICE, for the very same offence...being the last man back and pulling down the same forward both times! He got one yellow, and got a free in his favour for the other one, even when he held his hands up to admit liability!! Refereeing defied belief. He took all the competition out of it, wouldnt discipline charleville for throwing the 1st punches...was very weak! I even felt exasperated for Pallas...because he was denying a 2A team the right to beat a 1A team on football terms...maybe he just wanted the upper division teams to be involved in the shake up. Disgraceful, ruins the competition of the cup.

So its the ref's fault 40 people decided to have a fight knocking two people out and putting one person in hospital.Quote:

Come on, no matter how you try to justify the actions of these people, they decide to have a fight. there in control of there own emotions and they decided they had the right to fight on a soccer field and turn it into a melee, they decided they were going to put someone in danger of being seriously hurt.... they are at fault no one else
Jock i know your a ref yourself and i really do have the utmost respect for the job ye do but from the sounds of the match reports this ref was a contributing factor to the fighting. Sure people have the choice to fight or not but come on he hardly helped matters. I understand how hard the ref's job is but if he's not up to it then he shouldnt be doing it... Ive had to ask for a certain ref not to do any of our games because some of the decisions he made were that bad id go as far as calling the guy a cheat and i dont say that lightly..
Again i really respect the job ye do and i know we're lucky to have people willing to do such a tough job but surely you'll agree some of them are not up to it...
Have to agree here with dared. Some of the refs in town are of a very bad standard and their decisions can lead to players getting frustrated and hitting out. I know there is a shortage of refs at the moment but some of the guys doing the job are in for the money and dont have a clue when it comes to football.
Also to Jock, your signature is a good endorsement for refs. If only all were like that. Some refs you cant even ask how long is left and they threaten to book you...
lads jock is one of the best refs in town and if anyone ever saw him ref a game they'd agree with me,so why are some older, unfit refs doing 1A/B and premier and then you have jock doing 3A/3B/youth div 2(no disrespect to the players in these divisions)should the better refs not be in the premier, where the pace is faster, they might actually be able to keep up with play and not stand in the centre circle with whistle in mouth trotting around like confused ponies blowing randomly and guessing if players are offside, why is this....jock any info
so they give you the crappy jobs basically:p:p:p
it always happens with the new guys
