Shams will no doubt push for a minutes applause for the live TV game on Friday
Interesting news.
I don't think it's going to make much difference on Friday, I think Rovers fans' opinion on the issue will be heard at some point..
So, FAI have cancelled all tributes of respect for their ex President, just to save their beloved Shams from making a show of themselves on live TV

With Helm and Ham, that's the makings of a damn fine band in just a day.

Remember him well from Blues Brothers (and Blues Brothers 2000).
Father of the muscle car, Carroll Shelby died recently aswell.

actually saw the Blues Brothers earlier this week at a special Jameson Cult film screening. Vicar Street venue in Dublin was redecorated as a prison, there was free whiskey, and hot dogs, and dancing, and explosions. Highly recommended.
Was shocked when I read this morning he had passed
Queen of Disco Donna Summer, aged 63, died from cancer today.
I heard it on the radio.
Shinichiro Suzuki, personal friend of mine who died a few days ago. I went to his funeral yesterday (my first time at a Japanese funeral, I was lost).
He lost his wife and three children in the Kobe earthquake in 1995, but was nevertheless one of the most positive people I've ever met, who only saw the good in people.
I was his English teacher years ago, but I learned much more from him that he ever did from me.
I will miss him.
Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees' and Peter Jones of Crowded House have both died after battles with cancer.
Gibb had been sufffering from colon and liver cancer, while Jones has died from brain cancer.
Both bands have seen their share of tragedy at this stage. Robin's brother Muarice died 9 years ago after suffering a twisted intestine, while Jones joined Crowded House as a drummer after the suicide the previous drummer, Paul Hester.
Just saw a tv report that Ray Bradbury has just died. Either 91 or 92 years old.
Teofilo Stevenson - triple Olympic heavy weight gold medal winner. From Cuba and could have been the "new Cassius Clay" but for various political reasons remained an amateur.

EDIT: Thanks Owlsfan for the correction.
Rodney King of LA Riot fame died in a pool in Rialto. http://www.rte.ie/news/2012/0617/pol...ound-dead.html
I never knew it was he who said "Can't we all just get along" which a generation of black comedians have taken the pee out of. I heard a biography of the man on bbc 4 and he really is a tragic figure who just couldn't get a grip on life. Only 47 too.
Rialto... jesus, I was thinking that the regeneration of Fatima Mansions had gone really well... pools and all...

Sad to see Eric go. So much in the limelight for years and then disappears.
Actor Andy Griffith, perhaps best known for his part in Matlock:
Oh no. Loved Eric Sykes.
Can't believe no one posted about Andy Griffith yesterday...

Loved that comedy - no more fitting tribute to the man, Stann!
Hopefully some channel will show that, Rhubarb and The Plank.
I did. Just a minute ahead of you!
