I'm in two minds whether he should be called up for the U.S.A. game tbh. He should only be called up when he's ready to come to a decision and play in competitive games imo. We have only one friendly before the Poland match. We need to consider players who are realistic options for that game, and for several reasons, Jack is not one of them.
I agree. Mark Noble and Richard Keogh should be given a run out :)

The implication is that he'll play competitive international football when he's ready. That'll be when his selection won't be a cynical one. The stated reason for missing Scotland is because he won't be ready to play at that level, which is probably fair enough. It's not up to the player to decide if he's ready for International football or not. It's up to the manager.

I don't even understand your first reply. He is open to playing competitive games for Ireland and England. That's the point. There is a difference between being open to something and being committed to something.
I don't buy there being silly buggers from Grealish's end if he is willing to be called up for a friendly. He's given every indication that this is a big decision and he understands the implications of his actions (and the media blowback they will cause). To play in a friendly and then switch would be ridiculously counter productive.
There's nothing explicit in his father's words about him not playing competitively. Just an acknowledgement that he wouldn't be considered for a competitive squad.
Given that we know O'Neill hasn't been slow to contact the family, it strikes me as more likely he's told them as much and perhaps said he'd like to take a look at Grealish in the US game.

If we do manage to hang onto Grealish there should be a pat on the back for everyone in the FAI who has been involved. They seem to be handling the situation exceptionally well, as was done with McGeady and McCarthy in similar situations

Seems a balanced blog piece that says he has great potential and needs time and space.
A minor disappointment if it happens as it indicates he's probably not quite ready for the Premier League as yet and I guess I would concede that it would become unlikely that he would figure in this season's qualifiers (unless he really takes the Championship by storm). Still, a run-out against the US might be of some use (if the earlier article is accurate) along with a couple of friendly appearances next summer with an eye to the last four Euro 2016 games.Quote:

Spurs were trying to sell him. Martin Jol said recently that Hamburg were offered him for £6m but they couldn't come up with the money, and there have been stories going back a few years about Championship clubs being offered him.
Well why wouldn't they sell a player who wasn't getting in the side I suppose. To say they wouldn't let him leave for less than 6m shows they must have rated him some bit. They had only spent 7m on him so it wouldn't have been that big a hit for a perceived flop. In fairness to Redknapp, he gave him his chance, by hook or by 'crook', and Bale repaid him handsomely. Redknapp transformed Spurs, and it was probably his attacking philosophy that allowed Bale to really prosper, so I wouldn't begrudge him a little bit of credit for how things developed.
Seems to have been the case he was considered good but not that good or at least had potential, I don't know if anyone can claim to
have known how good he would be at that point. It seems things happen more by accident than intent.
Anyhow Juande Ramos was manager of Spurs when they signed Bale so he should take the credit, Spur thanked him by sacking him :)
