AFAIA, Butler applied for Irish nationality 1999? after being married to an Irish woman for more than 3 years.
This was acceptable then as satisfying FIFA eligibility rules - before the 2003 changes introduced to prevent the obvious abuse of the rules by the Brazilians getting Oman nationality.

It may have been mentioned on here previously, but does anyone know if Andy Carroll at Newcaslte has been approached or is qualified to play for us?

I read somewhere that Scotland had approached him. He looks a decent player from what ive seen.

Agreed. I'm all for granny rulers but this fella is a bit of an ass. We have enough Championship goalkeepers to choose from anyway.

Goalkeepers are kind of a different breed to regular footballers it seems. They seem to sometimes have brains and opinions and a tendency to tell the truth which sets them apart. Mind you our outfield players sometimes seem capable of this too..........they just tend to wait til their autobiographies come out to demonstrate it.

If players across the pond want to play for Ireland and there of a good quality then thats great I see no problem with that but if players are being called up just because they play in England then thats in poor taste from Trap especially when he wont even come to a LOI game.

I dont see Nolan playing for Ireland he really wants to play for England. I reckon O'Hara will wait a few more years before deciding as he has a great chance in making it into the England team but there's loads of others out there so the future is looking bright for the Irish Team.

It's probably fair to say he doesn't exert himself, though. Hopefully he'll attend a few European games later in the/next season to see the top players against a higher standard of opposition.

England have named their squad for the World Cup. O'Hara didnt even make it into the provisional squad. I guess we will wait until the WC is over now to see his next move.

O'Hara was never going to make the provisional squad, don't know what made him think that he had a chance.

Gary Cahill also didn't make it which tbh wasn't surprising either. As well as the central defenders named in the provisional squad ie. Carragher, King, Terry, Ferdinand, Dawson, Upson, one would also presume that Phil Jagielka, Joleon Lescott, Wes Brown and Ryan Shawcross are ahead of him too...as would Jonathan Woodgate if he gets fit. Wonder what he'll do?
