Championship player of the month for September.
Best a concern for play-offs
Coventry City striker Leon Best has emerged as an injury worry for the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup play-offs against France. Best limped out of last nights defeat at Cardiff with a knee injury and left the stadium on crutches.
His club are waiting to discover the full extent of the injury with a scan scheduled for tomorrow but manager Chris Coleman admitted the initial prognosis was not encouraging.
“We are not sure how long he is going to be out for,” said Coleman. “His knee has swollen up badly and we won’t be banking on him returning soon. He’s a tough kid but it doesn’t look too good. It’s a real worry.”
Best has yet to break his international duck but has won five caps under Giovanni Trapattoni, the most recent coming in the final qualifier against Montenegro.
Ireland face France on November 14th at Croke Park, with the return leg taking place at the Stade de France four days later. A place at next year's World Cup finals in South Africa awaits the winners.

This is bad news. He's impressed every time I've seen him.
Gutted for Leon, really hope he makes it back in time - second leg, maybe? Gives us a useful option to change things around. Here's hoping.
Hope he recovers soon.
Himself and Folan are real options for Ireland to put themselves about and get under the skin of defender's.
Keane and Doyle are good players, but sometimes it's really important to win headers and flick on's up front and Folan and Best are very good at that. They give us a different option if Keane and Doyle are not getting anywhere on the ground against good defenders.
According to predictions, Folan will not be available for the play offs either
Andy Reid for striker? :D:D
Hope he gets back for the playoff.
Good luck to him with his recovery. Hope he gets there.
Ben Burgess it is so!!
nah a recall for david connolly please.
rafael cretaro? ;)
Xano.
Point taken, though I'm sure you can see where I'm coming from. Serbia home friendly or Paris away play-off ?
I like Keogh but don't think he gets enough goals at club level - though he mucked in with some crucial ones at the end of last season for Wolves.
Clinton is a goalscorer.
Is Clinton playing well this season or are people just remembering some selected memories from yonder years with fondness?

Birmingham apparently interested
COVENTRY City are planning to sell hot-shot striker Leon Best in January with Birmingham City FC leading the race, claims online speculation.
Mirror Football reports that the Sky Blues will cash in on the in-form frontman in the winter transfer window rather than allow him to leave on a free next summer.
It is believed that Premier League Birmingham are closely monitoring the 23-year-old Republic of Ireland international, who has snubbed several offers to renegotiate his contract at the Ricoh.

Leon edges ahead.
It will be Keogh. And like Miller and a few other B-side members at this moment in time he is just not good enough. Great attitude but he lacks the quality to score goals in games that matter. Morrison has done it at the highest level and scored some crucial goals for us. His form has been good early season and he deserves a look in but he won't get it I'm afraid. Morrison has the attitude and belief in himself that could well work in these play offs.
best and morrison both championship players....beyond keane and doyle we have limited resources...think folan is easily our best option beyond these two, thought shane long did ok when reading were in the premiership, seems his career gone in reverse a little
Scored a good goal today early in the match against Derby, but beyond that wasn't up to much as Derby controlled the game after that point (didn't really get much service).
Took it off his chest before hitting it on the half-volley with the outside of his foot into the corner.
