Brilliant Vinny we love you!!!
From what I've heard it souds like they're really trying to build the club up again and not just go after short term gains. Hopefully the feel good factor can return.
well i'm actually going to get to games this season and looking forward to it. Kildare is my local club where i live and even Athlone and Kilkenny are closer to home than Longford.
Will your fancy a$$ camera be making a return too then..
It will be, my new one...... its part of my business empire now:D;)
Set up new business last year and was mad busy. Didn't make it to one single game.
Great newsa about Vinny! A true legend.
Good to see him get him chance as assitant, will gain valuable experience if this is true, rather see him learnin the trade along side someone rather than have been thrown into the deepend as manager on his own
Welcome back Vinny!
Who's this Vinny fella and what position does he play?
Vincent Perth isn't confined by mortal terms such as position. He is omnipresent and omnipotent..But if you want to lower it down to such a basic level he plays midfield or at a pinch centre back
So we have A player, any word on the rest?
Two or three more have agreed to come but he's not naming names yet by all accounts. Apparently he wants to have a whole load of players training for pre-season and whittle them down from that, having a good look at any and all interested and interesting players. He's still hoping to keep some of the lads we had last year seemingly. I think Shay is likely to be the captain.
I'm interested, but not very interesting... ;)
Seriously though, I haven't been so excited about a new season for a long time!
that makes 2 actually, along with Dáire Doyle, Midfield taking shape already;)
Some of the posts on this make me laugh. Lavine, Stephen Gavin, **** it Colin Nataro might be in the frame.(that was a joke, dont start a rumour on it) Tallented was spot on with what he said, hungry players who are willing to learn the game, and not just a dads army selection of journey man. If we could hold on to deego, sulli and kelly its a start. Vinny fully fit would be an addition too, should never have been gottin rid of by matthews, when you look at what he kept on with sheridan and pip keogh.
The feel good factor will only return with a decent start to the league. Lets not kid ourselves, this season, finishing in the top 3 will be a great achievement. Waterford and Shels have added significantly, and dundalk will be strong, as could limerick.
A succesful season will se an improvement in the clubs community relations, and a young hungry team full of potential, all wanting to wear the red and black jersey. Throw in a cup victory or 2 and the majority of supporters will be happy.
On the supporters from myself and Paddy intend to consolidate and increase on last years improvement on support, and bring you more banners, witty ditties and generally keep an atmosphere goin at games!
Here's to 2008
C'MON DE TOWN
could it be said that going down to the 1st division could be a blessing in disguise ??
delighted to see "na na na na na vinny vinny perth vinny perth" back with us! this is terrific news! i would hazard a guess that aaron will have signed up a few of the atfc players that were let go by scumlone!

Welcome home Vinny!!!
Is Gary Deegan staying with you this season? I wouldn't mind seeing him at UCD.
welcome vinnie.as marty said , things are lookin a little bit brighter than a few weeks ago:)
looking at the article on ltfc.ie it looks like vinny will be asst mgr only...:(
Ah yeah, ill add my sentiments. Welcome back Vinny. Come on man, just play a game for us. Preferably one that coincides with a flight home that weekend. Just for old time's sake. :)
I don't know if he'll be playing every week or what, probably depends what sort of squad we have but as far as I know he will be registered. Vinny himself has apparently said before that he feels he could play on for another couple of years. We'll see, either way he'll be a very good influence and a good character to have involved.
in fairness noone is saying we WILL get promoted but for God sake we have to be looking at at least callenging. The facts are we dont know what squad of players we have so we can worry about targets when we do get a squad. But remember rovers did it in a year from scratch why not us!!?? Waterford are still not overly great and while shels have increased there squad with decent players they still only have a squad of about 12 at present. Dundalk will be the team to beat I feel for whoever is to challenge them!!
Limerick won't be challengers this season, lucky to be top 5 i'd say. it'll be waterford shels and dundalk as the three contenders for the promotion.
Infairness rovers was a completly different situation, they didnt exactly start from scratch like we are and they had 2000 fans every home game.. Somthing we couldnt even sustain at our height in the premier division.. Rovers were favourites to win the 1st division that year were as we wont be rest assured of that.. So i wouldnt really use rovers doin it in a year as a guideline they had alot more in their favour
i'd say the situation is more like shels last year in their first season. starting out from scratch. i'd say ye will start average and grow stronger as the season goes, the same way shels did. this all depends on the type of squad ye have of course.
Blasphemy! Ah no Vinny is a Town legend as much for his attitude and love of the club as anything else. We should have a squad that will be competitive in the division. Promotion may be a step too far this year but we could certainly hope to be pushing at the top end rather than the bottom.
