exactly hornet, exactly!
these were the lads yer on about:
o’toole - watford
moyles - brentford
o’sullivan - stevenage
there is another couple of fellas. A few fellas that play for round towers used to be with spurs as well. one had a 2 year professional contract with spurs. Who do ye play for?!
Hornet, how do the watford fans rate him?! Is he their young player of the year?!
it depends what you mean by "with", im involved with a club alright, but I dont play. But you were trying to be smart anyhow rock :D
Seriouslly though ( soccer ), the few times ive seen him he is well able take a tackle on the ball, so it prolly did him good playing gaelic! :)
this guy must be playing his way into the Irish squad at this stage??? according to reports he is dominating games and has a knack of scoring important goals...
Paul O'Donoghue is the one who was at Spurs i think
I think he was the best player that I saw in our U21 team over the last year. I'm sure he'll make it into the senior team at some stage. I hope he gets an opportunity sometime soon.
John Joe O'Toole, Jamie McCarthy, Joey O'Brien, Owen Garvan, Chris McCann and Stephen Ireland all playing well in midfield for their respective clubs so far this season and all 22 or less. We are going to have some midfield by 2010 and that's even if Stephen Ireland doesn't bother to come back.
yep, our young midfielders are really exciting. I just saw JJ on ITV's highlights programme and he was involved in everything. His shot led to watford's first goal and he scored well with his left to put them 2-1 up. He looks to have that knack of timing his runs into the box really well. He looks a real athlete as well.
I'm looking forward to seeing McCarthy.
Youngirish I am not sure how young you are but surely you may have learned the lesson that banking on Irish talent coming through and fulfilling its potential is fools gold. How many times have we been let down by players who look like to have great potential etc.
Now don't get me wrong, any time I have seen O Toole or Garvan and to a lesser exten Mc Cann I have been impressed but we have been down this road before.
There is always that period where a young player first comes on the scene and promises so much but then fails to cement their place in the team and continue to develop get farmed out on load and then recede into the background a la Willo Flood, Darren Potter and I'm hoping not Darron Gibson.
But Garvan, Ireland ( should I even mention him as he may never play for Ireland again but played well for Man City today setting up 2 goals ) McCann, O'Toole have all become first team regulars for their clubs and massed up a fair number of league appearances. They certainly look like they will have successful club careers, time will tell whether they have international careers.
McCarthy is very young yet and I hope he doesn't get burned out, and I'm not sure about Joey O'Brien tbh.
It's good to see them breaking thru to regular first team football but don't expect to see them play under Trapp, he has a 2 year deal and will always play the best players he has available to him and won't blood too many new players in competitive games if he can avoid it. Interestingly against Georgia & Montenegro Trapp played only 1 player Whelan who had not played for Ireland previously. Stephen Hunt was the only player to start who won his first cap during the Stan nightmare and is a very limited player.
If Steven Reid is injured again I would imagine he would recall Carsley. But he could do worse that replace Miller with Garvan, O'Toole or O'Brien.
We really need Duff back for the home games...
I cannot understand why Lee Carsley isn't even in the squad, never mind starting at central midfield over Glenn Whelan.
While I would have agreed with you before, it's hard to be critical of his two performances so far.
I said before that Whelan is essentially a more mobile Lee Carsley, and that seems to be fairly accurate from what I've seen so far with Ireland.
Limited from a creativity perspective, but he adds a presence and keeps things simple.
Don't see what all the clamour regarding Carsley not being in the squad is about. He was a very limited player imo. He stuck the boot in but in a creative and attacking sense he was a non entity. I don't think we've suffered due to his exclusion. Onwards and upwards I say.
Hopefully now Miller will follow and lose his place in the squad to one of the aformentioned young players that are at present not regulars in our squads.
Glad to hear JJ is making waves and has a knack for scoring the spectacular.
Jon Joe's goal.......and the other "goal"
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLTz2U9RfmM
After scoring in each of the last 4 home games, John Joe failed to hit the net last night in the win over West Ham:(.....................but as he never played, we'll let him off:D
Almost back in action, Cheers ...
Went "light" trianing the other day and was able to walk away after it :p
Still waiting on Ballinasloe to send me my medical records to see how they
missed that part of my spine was out of place  (kinda)
Starting my coaching certs next week incase I have to hang up the gloves and boots!
John Joe has started off well this season. It finally looks like he has earned the right to in Aidy's first pick. With our forever expanding injury list (watford that is), it will be interesting to see if he can keep his place. I for one have been calling for him too be starting at Watford for some time but many home fans are still unsure.
Give him 2-3 years and he could be battling for that ireland shirt, depending on who he is playing for!
Also, it might be an idea for him to quit his job at scrooges in Mainz.
Could that be where all our money has gone................
I know Saint Tom is a big fan anyway
jj scores another goal for watford yesterday.
seems to be on a rich vein of goalscoring
Another decent performance from John on sat. Another goal to add to his already impressive tally. Listening to the commentry on tonights game and it seems like Aidy is playing him just behind our lone striker. No goals...yet
JJ scored again after 2 mins at Watford against Cardiff tonight!!:)
Another goal for John Joe yesterday. Had another great header cleared off the line. He seems to be really growing up this year. Lets hope his great start doesn't go to his head.
The Gods were always going to smile on JJ for the rest of his football life after that debut goal for us against Bulgaria.
According to the BBC gossip, Newcastle want to sign him in the transfer window.
how much would JJ go for? 2-3 million?
Would be a great move, and it kind of underscores the point that Premiership managers are making different judgements about our players than Trapp, Brady, Givens, Tardelli. We're picking players who cannot get into their Premiership club sides, whilst Premiership managers are chasing players who cannot get into ours? I would expect to see Garvan, O'Toole, and McCann all playing in the Premiership before next season, by which time it will be too late to integrate them into our international team. We'll end end up being stuck with the likes of Whelan, Andrews, Gibson and even Potter!!!!!!
Was at the Watford v Wolves game on sat and thought he looked good and defo has got the potential took his goal well whic was his 7th fo the season from midfield, would prefer to see him develop at a small club like watford for another season before making the step up as he could get lost in a premierleague reserve team.
all just rumour, nothing more. when/if they get their transfers and show they are up to it then they should be called up and not before. have been hearing about garvan for a few years now yet he is still playing for a mid table championship side. the jury is still out
with regards to Irelands management, given our decent start i would trust their judgement on team selection to date
