The Office (UK)
Love the way people don't read the original criteria....
Anyway Pete, the US Office is the funniest thing on TV by a long way.
Can't understand why people care about this. The UK original has a total of 12 episodes, of half a season's worth of US television. It's not like they've gone around burning all copies of the original, it's still there. :) The Office (UK) arguably achieved more critical acclaim (and was watched by more people) in the US than in it's home country.
I'm in the middle of Life On Mars at the minute, having missed it the first time, but there's no reason that show couldn't have gone on for years - just space the "coma" bits out a bit more to remind people of the original premise without teasing the audience too much.
Mitch Hurwitz, creator of Arrested Development, was due to run a US version of The Thick of It which has a grand total of 8 episodes spread out over 2+ years - you just can't get away with that in US TV
Sadly, after the pilot (directed by Christopher Guest!) was made it looks like the series wasn't picked up. :(
And did you see the cast? Usual Guest people. Grrr:mad:
Anyway it works both ways. Lots of British (and Irish) people don't rate US tv as they see it as formulaic or something but bar Gervais's comedies and maybe Phoenix Nights there hasn't been a good British sitcom this millenium (The Thick of It wasn't good IMO) while America has churned out classic after classic.
i hate American Tv shows, well most of them anyway........silly story lines, bad acting, and dull, and they take themselves way too seriously
Gone are the days when they made great TV............A Team, Streets of SF, Cagney and Lacey, macguiver, etc
anyway the best thing on Tv at the moment for me is...............
Life On Mars...............missed it the first time round, brilliant, and Simms is excellent (as ever)
and Eircom League Weekly...................Osam is a great actor, top drawer:)
Only started watching the 1st series of the Life of Mars but I can see how it will run out of plot fairly quickly. Its just like a re-run of a 70s cop show as very little link to the present day...
US Office is on my list.
Ditto. I'm desperate to see Season 4 of The Wire. The first three series were just awesome. IMO it's the best TV drama ever made. Better than the Sopranos by a distance.
Life On Mars - I just didn't get at all. Saw a few episodes (including the last one) but I can't see how people raved about it.
Would the likes of The Office and Life On Mars not be on BBC America? Thought it was from their that Gervais won the Emmy's?
Another one for the list is House. Didn't really get it to start with, but coming around to it big time now. Going in the opposite direction is Shark - thought it had potential but kinda losing interest in it now (probably would've except for Sarah Carter!). Another US import which we'd watch is NCIS, be interesting how it goes after the end of the last season. Actually we'd be fairly lost for telly without five thinking about it.
Shut it you jesse. :D I don't really think it was one that you could dip in and out off, and also I think you'd have to appreciate some of the old TV shows.Quote:

Those Storyville documentaries that appear on BBC2 now and then(after Newsnight) I would highly reccomend.Last weeks featured a well known news reporter who videoed his life as he descented into Crack cocaine addiction was riveting albeit shocking in parts.
In fact most documentaries have me riveted.
Mighty boosh is a sit com ( situation comedy ) where people get into humourous situations .
Darkplace is very funny if you have seen the office he is the weird IT guy that comes to fix tims computor . was made in 2004 but the show is sold as one that was made in the 80's but was too out-there for channel 4 to show
Modern toss is nt really a sit com more a series of sketches still quite funny on bravo after 12 at night ( adult swim )
Peep show is the funniest thing on tv from either tha UK or the US at the moment
Anybody watching Flight of the Conchords on HBO
Fonejacker on E4 is hillarious they only made 6 and are showing repeats at the moment. It's genius.
'You don't just jump into bed with Terry Tibbs' :D
Brilliant show!
I'll put Prison Break out there, although series 2 got a bit silly. Series 1 was brilliant, get it on dvd
Sherry fitzgerald...!!!!
Ahhh no, wait. That's the agent - I'd recommend - to a friend.....
Police Squad, only aired 6 shows I believe but they were quality!:o
King of Queens is class. Doug and Arthur are just comical geniuses together in it. Becker(not being made anymore), with Ted Danson, is also very good.
I cried last nite coz Veronica Mars is finished. Not sure if there is another series on the way either. What will I do! Am watching the re-runs too but I need some more Mars!!!
My new best friend , same guy that did High spirits with shirly Ghostman a spoof Phychic ( like all the others but this guy is a comedian taking the **** ) also a very good show .
Anyone that believes in Phychics should watch this :p
My new best fried is kind of reality TV this person has to pass off an actor ( mark wootton) as his long lost best friend to all his friends and family for the weekend and they will win 10 grand if they do it , they have to go along with everything he says so when he tells one blokes friends that he is gay he has to agree, the stuff he comes out with is hillarious and seeing the contestant nearly brought to tears .He is a different charactor each week .
Here is the first episode

They had that on Channel 4 years ago!
Forensic Detectives and another one on Discovery Crime at about half five with a fella who tells stories of the murders in a ridiculous slurred voice with funny anecdotes.
i love Deadliest Catch, Ray Mears extreme survival is another great docu-series. Csi las vegas is cool. anyone else like "the Unit" on bravo, thought it was a cracker ,only the occasional "heart warming - america is great" ****€ annoys me sometimes.Only fools n horses , Royale Family (hilarious) , simpsons, FAMILY GUY loads more but im having a brain freeze!!
"Tribe" on BBC is one of my favourite programmes at the moment.
Himself is obsessed with UFC on Bravo. I've watched a few episodes and it's growing on me!
the young ones.
