The league havent got the new Contracts printed yet hence the delay.Tony doesnt want any announcements until the players put pen to paper thats why all the other clubs are signing players on pre contracts.
According to some at Pats Barry Ryan has agreed a new deal
What do you make of Barry Ryan Dodge? Everyone else seems to think he's better than I do.
Best in the league IMO. A huge loss if he goes. Way better than your beloved Forde ;)
I beg to differ!
Can't imagine who we'll be signing for goalie now.
Might still be Ryan, you know this league...
Oh and Dean Delaney is available for free. Could do worse...
well if we cant find anyone good enough, I suggest we start a "one more year campaign" for goughie !!
Goughie will be a year older and in my view too slow for the pace of the Premier Division, albeit he'd be a very capable back-up.

Does anybody know why Ronan Frawley could not commit to the new full-time structure at United. It is a big pity as he is a class act in the Alan Hansen / Daniel Agger mode (yes, I di support Liverpool too)!
He will be a loss.
So John Russell,Barry and raf to get back about whether they are going full time or not.So it looks like at least 8 new players including 2 keepers.
Ronan had just moved jobs so its a pity he couldnt commit to full time.
Fran started a new job in Dublin towards the end of Last season so i doubt hes going to go full time.
who's Hansen?
Any word on our first signing ?
i strongle recommend Vinny O'Conner of West Utd (22 i think). he plays best as a wing back can play eider side or central, great at going forward, tall fairly strong, wicked shot. i think its testimony that west have good players considering there in last 32 of irish cup. ive played against both him and liam mckenna and think he has a better game. its an area too we need to beef up in da full back area. any1 connected with club check him out in last 32 in irish cup!
Barry Ryan signed a new deal for Pats tonight (on the day he was nominated for 'keeper of the year award)
not to the premier level, there is plenty that would be well up for the under 21 team though
i'm not too sure about that, having played with liam and played against liam and vinny i'd have to say that liam is a better player and easily one of the best defenders in the junior league at that time. liam seems to have progressed a lot in his time with united as well
ok but frm anoder side maybe a game organised against either ''currents squad[watz left]'' vs. ''galway select'' and i dont mean GALWAY DISTRICT dat team is sssoooo corrupt it has like 99% salthill and mervue players!, a team selected with da best players from ALL teams in junior premier im sure 1 or 2 players cud be useful!... any1 agree?. cheap way of finding players, commited to the cause!. big enouh city im not convinced every player good enough has been given an outlet to prove ot. how many scouts do we have or do we have any?
there is no scouts in the county/city area. As all clubs are now a part of the set up between juvenile, junior and senior football, the clubs managers will be given a chance to put forward there best players for trials.
hopefully this will work in practice - it would be great if the juvenile and junior leagues acted as feeders to united as well as providing their own local football functions. it would provide Utd with local lads and in turn increase support .... win, win i'd say
ya wud be good. i know glasgow is 10 times size of galway, but look bak on da lisbon lions all frm da area. da effort u can get of a local player is amazing plus there more likely to stay loyal and re-sign a new contract (billy cleary for instance has spent nearly his whole career at galway and his dedication is unquestionable)
Yeah Terry, I read yesterday that he issued a "come and get me plea" (sic) to other clubs and he would be one of the more obvious ones.
I think he's regressed somewhat in recent seasons but he's experienced and a nice bloke supposedly as well.
I see that Derry City have released Stephen O'Flynn.
hes another one with the come and get me statement on eleven a side
Not a big SoF fan but he's not a bad player all the same. Interesting that Fenlon got rid of him so soon.
heard yesterday that the majority of the people that tony is gonna sign are from the dublin area which will completely get rid of our local club ethos. but the question is should we willing to change this to try and maintain premier league status
In all fairness if we continued with our local policy, with the players available today, we would be signing our own death warrant. If we want success on the pitch we have to employee players from outside our district league. This wasnt an issue last year when we signed Cretaro, Charles, O'Donnell, Foley etc...
If we have 3/4 Galway players and the rest are in the main Irish, that's good enough for me. The players aren't there and we can't let that limit us. There aren't anywhere near enough foreign players in the league, even though I'm totally opposed to the likes of Arsenal having 11 foreign players etc.
I agree with JW. if we do sign out of towners they will be movin here as full time players. We consider Derek a "local" as he's been living here for years so i'd have no problem with bringing them in....as long as theyre good enough. We can train them to speak with Galway accents if it makes you feel better!
i know theres nowhere near enough good players around galway at the moment and that we do need to bring in outside players but i dont want galway united to turn into a dublin club which it will nearly be by time that all new players from the dublin area are signed.
also terry, foleys hardly what you would call an outsider being from the aran islands.
I know we cant have all galway players but the way it is now we're only gonna have a couple
my point about foley is that he didnt come from the junior system in Galway directly.
If there was say only 2 galway players, but we were successful, would any of us care? Not me anyway.
Heard Raf signed for Shligo yesterday, can anyone confirm this? he wasnt at the party last night so i suppose it's true
all i'm saying is if we get stuck in a bit of a dog fight next season will the dublin players have the same fight and determination to get us out of it. i dont know, i'd think they'd just like to jump ship and get back to dublin
Bringing players up from Junior isn't going to work. They tried it befire with Breen Geraghty,Johnny Mernagh to name just a few. They couldn't make it in the first division never mind Premier.
I won't mind seeing a few Dubs coming down.Remeber Joey Malone brought have of Dundalk or Drogheda down with him.
There will always be a core of Galway players involved and if the others are good enough it shouldn't matter where they're from
