Ballad Of The Broken Seas - Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan
Cruel - Calexico
Paperback Bible - Lambchop
Satan Is Real/Straight To Hell - Hank Williams III
Cursed Sleep - Bonnie 'Prince' Billy
That may be, but I still live in the hope that one day I'll convince you to throw Foreigner onto your playlist. On a sidenote, it's always nice to leave a thread for a couple of days and come back to see how you are getting on in your one man crusade on said thread LTID :D
But seriously lads, Snow Patrol, Bell X1 and all the rest of that ****e are obviously bedwetter music, as Noel Gallagher would put it, and needs to be stamped out just as much as Westlife, Donna and Joe etc. do :)
As per Today FM......
The top 3 songs of 2006,as voted by the Public, are:
1.Chasing Cars
2.Crazy
3.America.
I agree with the Top song....not too sure about the other 2.
Jesus forgot about Crazy , brilliant song.
I thought Crazy was the most overrated song of the year.
Here:D.
another contender for worst song of 2006: The Streets “When you wasnt famous”. Awful effort.
Would anyone agree that this year hasnt been the greatest for music, when say compared to last year where you had Takk, Funeral, Silent Alarm to name a few.
Havent come across any alternative quality and I was slightly dissapointed with Empire.
I forgot about The Kooks - Naive
Lads I think Empire deserves a chance here, as both an album and a single. Personally the Single was my favourite of the year. The album is what I'd call a grower. First time listening to it and you might pick out two or three songs you like, but the more you listen all the songs have something to offer. like a lot of recent guitar based bands they suffer from first album syndrome, as in their second album is nonsensed due to differings from the first one.
Anyways Empire for song of the year
I agree it is a grower but after a couple of weeks listening I now find myself going back to the first album more regularly. Its easy to get into any album for short period, IMO, the true test is whether you continually return to it after that initial addictive phase has expired.
I usually play it from number 7 onwards. Empire and Shoot the Runner are too obvious, for want of better expression, fairly bog standard with little variation.
Doberman is probably the only 1 that would make it onto the first album.
Brilliant comparison Pauro and a comparison thats all good as far I'm concerned. Sun rise light flies is a class song.
simple kid - king kong song(cant remember the real name playin it a lot on phantom)
Luke Dzierzek - Echo
Soulwax - Krack
Ok here's a few suggestions as the Best #1 songs of 2006
Crazy Gnarls Barkley
Patience Take That
And one of the better videos for a song and I don't know if it even charted here.
OK GO Here It Goes Again.... the one with the four geeks on the treadmills
( I know they are the band members but the choreography of them on the treadmills is very clever)
Just reading through this thread now (didnt know thw music section existed until about 10 minutes ago, tis great having sod all to do in work:D ) & have to agree with some of the posts above, i'm seriously struggling to think of one 2006 release that was anyhing out of the ordinary, ie not pure muck!
For me at least it's been a poor year for original work, nearly all the cd's i bought were old, in some cases extremely old!!
One 2006 album that suprised me though was Lily Allens, after having it recommended by a music journo, lyrically quite good! Though wouldnt be listening to it a few months later to be fair!
Koh
I'm from Barcelona - We're From Barcelona
James Dean Bradfield - That's No Way to Tell a Lie
Both of those were pretty good this year
"Youth" by Matisyahu was a classy tune too.
Ah look, when you really look at it there was probaby as many good songs this year as every year.
Some of the best were that CSS one, "Let's Make Love & Listen To Death From Above"; "We're From Barcelona"; "Sun Rise Light Flies" and "Empire" by Kasabian; "Monster" by the Automatic; the Infadels' and Hot Chip singles, "Love Like Semtex" and "Over And Over"; The Motorettes "I Am Blister, I Am"; "Young Folks" by Peter, Bjorn and John, and much more I can't remember off the top of me head.
And apparently the Justice vs Simian tune "We Are Your Friends" counts as a 2006 release, must either be a re-release or the first official one, but if that's the case then it easily become Single Of The Year!
(IMHO) :D
The Gossip - Standing on the edge of control
Peter, Bjorn and John - Young Folks
Muse - Super Massive Black hole
Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger
Artic Monkeys - Fake Tales of San Francisco
The Raconteurs - Steady as She Goes
Kooks - She Moves in her own way
We are Scientists- the great escape
Be your own pet -adventurers
Tom Vek - Nothing but Green Lights
Clap you Hands say Yeah- yellow country teeth
loads more i cant think of....
...and "Starlight" by Muse, The Good The Bad & The Queen's "Herculean", "It Overtakes Me...", most of the Arctic Monkeys album... even the Pugwash Christmas song wasn't bad as they go. Not the worst year after all then. :D
Arctic Monkeys - Fake Tales of San Francisco
Beck - Strange Apparition
Well I didn't see the video in 2005 nor hear the song. I saw it for the first time on Channel 6 in October 2006!
Besides many singles released in the first half of 2006 would have been from albums released in late 2005 and If I am not mistaken
OK GO's album, according to their website, was officially released Stateside in autumn 2005.
