There is talk of a Slovakian keeper joining the club, interesting times ahead. Heard on the grapevine that he is meant to be big, brave and agile.

Westport United beat Erris United 2-0 AET on Thursday night. Dave Horkan and Gerry McLoughlin both netted in each period with the latter smacking a spectacular volley. Played the ball on the deck and Gerry made the difference when he came in. Roll on Ballina Town in the semi final.
The Asgard Rovers defeated The Chieftains 4-1 in the final of the Ed Hopkins tournament. Ger McGreevy got the Golden Boot and Micheal Gibbons got Player of the Tournament. All monies raised went to the Heart and Lung foundation.
A great win for the boys last night against Ballyglass. Dave Horkan opened the scoring and Gerry McLoughlin made it 2-0. Ballyglass got one back before the break from a corner that never was.:eek: It was not all doom and gloom however as David Cameron, just back from vacation, made it 3-1. Dessie O'Malley made it 4-1 with a thunderblaster. Lovejoy is out for a month through injury. It was a good performance and the flags fluttered well in the Holy Temple. Cup semi final on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 against Ballina Town in the Holy Temple. Shall be interesting.
The B team suffered a shocking 2-1 loss to Conn Rangers, a result that was not helped by the fact that most of the strikeforce are on vacation. Danny Murphy lookalike, Stephen Cowley, netted the equaliser. The B team are at "home" to Castlebar Celtic B on Thursday night at 7:00 but owing to the situation in the Sports Park on Thursday evenings, the game will be played elsewhere.

Anyone got any info on what's happening between WUFC and WAC, seems crazy that Utd have to play important games away from home. Are there any moves being made to sort it out?
WAC sought a court injunction a number of weeks ago to prevent WUFC from playing on their training nights. The injunction was granted and subsequent hearings had the matter adjourned on each occasion. The case is adjourned again until a later date and I'm not inviting further discussion on this out of potential repercussions in any future case on this matter.
Westport United B beat Castlebar Celtic B 1-0 tonight with a Joe Kelly volley. The game was played in Milebush Park and there was a good Glenhest contingent at the game. A couple of the kids impressed as subs tonight with L. Beirne tricky and C. Ryder pacey.
Westport United made it to the AIB Cup final after defeating Ballina Town 4-3 on penalties. Westport went 2-0 up through Danny Scahill and Brian Fahy before Ballina made it 2-2. Penalty heroes were David "Spiderman" or "Crouch" Hoban in goal, Brian Kenno, Dessie, Gerry and Cam. Game was a real cup tie before a crowd of approx 200; very passionate. The match officials came in for a lot of stick from the crowd and the story is that the club may be reported to the Mayo League as a consequence. The two sending offs were baffling. I did not see David Horkan's tackle but the word was that it did not warrant anymore than a booking. However, the sending off of Levi Tierney was somewhat absurd. I didn't see him do anything to warrant a red card. Leo Tierney's anger after the game was justified IMO.

Yes there will be three great games to look forward to over the next few weeks between Celtic and The Port (2 in the league and the cup final). From recent reports it seems that both sides have been short a number of regular players and maybe both sides are not showing their true form. Westport did the bizz in the Touhy Cup Final beating Killala 3-0. Keith Ruddy could have got a hat trick, coor blimey but Lee Keegan put the Coves in front, James Fahy made it 2-0 and the Man of the Match, David Horkan wrapped it up at the finish. Played good football and deserved the win. There was a minutes silence for Joe Kelly's father and in a fitting tribute, the victory was dedicated to him. Both Joe Kelly and James Fahy both went on to lift the cup. There was a good party in Walsh's pub with karaoke afterwards. Bit unusual to have the Angelus played at half time, but worse still, the supporters were treated to the death notices!!:eek:

Westport United's Polish star Domonik Zareba is departing from town and on Wednesday night, he is inviting his friends within the club to Walsh's pub for a going away drink. Domonik is heading to Denmark. Lets hope he leaves with plenty of good memories of Westport United. To date, the only non-national to have won a medal for the club was the legendary Czech midfielder, Jozsef Tomanchak in 2002.

i'm living in san francisco and was at work today on a building site where i got talking to the contrctor during the tea break,we were on the subject of golf when i asked him if he'd ever played in ireland cos it has some great courses.he told me he was in mayo last year when westport won some soccer cup he said,turns out that his cousin was on the team,can't remember his name but he said he was a young lad of about 19 and is in australia at the moment.he also added that there was a major **** up in celebration of what later dawned on me the fai junior cup which i also won myself with fairview.just thought i'd let ye know the story,best of luck for the coming season
