A classic "Douglas Bader" - good in the air, crap on the ground :)
Not to be confused with his namesake Andreas Baader, who also achieved fame with the RAF (albeit a slightly different organisation). Great movie by the way, if there are any ageing student radical idealists out there who were fascinated by that era.
what have the royal air force got to do with some german :)
haha funny that you mention douglas now with andreas when that movie was just released a few weeks ago. I don't really understand what the fascination would be with them, nor did they to be honest. what exactly was their ideal?!
anti-police state, pro-freedom to demonstrate, general anti-establishment?
general anti everything, an invert agnostic.
Sheridan started today and was very poor. Looks to have a bad touch.
He had 55 mins before being subbed for Samaras and had a shocker. His first touch was woeful, the high balls for flick ons he rarely won and in fact seemed hardly to make a challenge. It seemed to be a combination of mistiming his jumps, positional sense, poor service. Really disappointing.
Only for Samaras has had a few stinkers since coming back from injury and Vennegor is still injured, I really couldnt see Sheridans performances of late justifying a first 11 place.
Sheridan was Motherwell's motm on his full debut against Hamilton.
Another motm performance from him against St Mirren.
McGhee:
"I thought Cillian Sheridan was our best player and we have no right to ask that of him. He is a player on loan and I thought he was terrific, but the rest didn't do enough to support that."
A goal and motm for Sheridan away to Inverness yesterday.
Really think that this Kid is an exciting prospect for us. An aerial presence up front for us is what we've been missing since Quinny retired and would be great to unsettle defenders in the last 15 minutes of games. Appreciate that he has a lot to learn (Stokes impact up there obviously never fully materialised), however he seems like a mature lad who is eager to learn and if there is one thing that Mark McGhee can teach him is how to become a good striker. Another season under McGhee could see him make great strides, especially considering the assistance he's already given Young Irish players development (playing Keano as a 17 year old at Wolves) as opposed to the detrimental effect of the ginger midget.
Strachan and McGhee are 2 really good friends who know a good player and they both definitely rate Sheridan. I'd take a lot from that alone. He's clearly a very intelligent player and it's just about getting the games under his belt to improve his touch and other basics.
It's rare to see a young player with such a good understanding of the game but still so raw. There's just something about him. I think his instincts are good if that makes sense. :) ie. if he has to do something without much time to think he'll probably do the right thing.
To be fair as soon as he moved I thought that it smacked of a Strachan recommendation. Agree about his natural instincts - only seen him a couple of times, however his ability to know what to do impulsively bodes well. Also encouraging that he's a bright lad as intelligence and the ability to learn turned Quinny from a big lump at Arsenal to an international quality striker. If he can hone his goalscoring skills and learn to use his weight to outmuscle defenders we'll have a real player on our hands. The fact that he was playing pub football in Donegal three years ago (believe that's true?) shows just how much he's developed already.
Has a spot for a "Big Man" opened up in the squad after Folans withdrawing of himself (while not injured and reasonably fit) from the last squad I wonder???
If being big has such merit for an International call up ahead of other attributes, then why not simply buy a pair of "elevator boots" for Doyle.
How about Patriot-2009- sporty casual?
for a 2.6 inches/6.6 cm Height Increase at only USD 99.

To be honest I don't think we need a talented footballer for that role.
We just need a big, strong, brute to get in there and bully the opposing defenders, and give us an aerial threat.
The fact that he has pace and is a decent finisher means he's a step up on Murphy for me.
I really do love those "enlarge" links which show you a picture exactly the same size, they don't fool me ;)
I'm thinking of opening up a kebab van selling kebabs - small, medium, and large - all the same size of course,
just small, medium and large prices :D
(most ISP's do a similar thing with their speeds).
Poor first touch alright, certainly if his showing in Copenhagen is anything to go by, but the first time I saw him live I was surprised that he had some pace about him.
What game was it he scored twice for Celtic - was it Kilmarnock at home? For one goal he whacked a rebound from the keeper into the roof of the net. If you see the goal again you'll see that he actually got there very quickly ahead of the defender. No slouch in that position.
I think Strachan or the reserve coach was quoted as saying he had good pace. Will try & dig it up.
Here it is, Scott McDonald commenting:

"He has terrific pace and is one of the fittest guys I know and once he tidies up a few things in his game then he'll have everything. He's tall, can run and finish so he's a manager's dream and much better than a small, stumpy wee guy.
Read in the Record at the weekend that Sheridan was likened to Chris Sutton (although that was by Chris's brother John). McGhee was talking highly of him also saying that he learns very quickly.
Can't believe that he is getting questioned over his pace & touch already. He's only a Kid. His touch and all round game will come. As for pace - don't recall Niall Quinn or Teddy Sheringham being Linford Christie - anyway, who gives a monkeys how fast you are when you are 6ft 4 and built like a brick s**thouse?
Built like a brick s***thouse, he is not! Im sure he'll improve his strength but fighting his way out of a wet paper bag at this stage would be difficult enough for him!
Scored a decent winner for Motherwell at the weekend. Good to see he is getting a run of games under his belt. International Football is something he is nowhere near ready for and a distraction he doesnt need in this stage of his development.
The problem in the modern era with so much football on tv is that players are given no time to develop before being written off. It's the lads first year, he has a couple of Champions League appearances to his name and he's bagged a few in SP. I'd say give him a few years to develop before giving him a label.
Anyone saying Sheridan is slow should have seen the U21 game on Friday evening. He looked really quick down the left side at times and both commentators on TV made a point of highlighting his pace.
Hopefully that'll put the record straight on that issue.
Outstripped the full back to set up Judge for the second goal
Agreed he definitely looked quicker out on the flank, than I thought when Ive seen him at Celtic. Still showing the shortcomings in terms of first touch, short passing and strength.....but it could come......
He slaughtered the Spaniard for pace to win the free kick that led to the first goal on the right wing. He certainly didn't look favourite to win the ball.
He could try to hold the ball up a bit more on occasion as he likes to just play the pass back straight away when he receives it to feet and misplaces plenty.
