what is the difference between vienna and bratislava airport, if any? seeing as this is going to be my first away trip any other advice would be nice. thanks
Vienna's in Austria; Bratislava's in Slovakia.
However, if you're flying Ryanair, they're the same thing - they call it Vienna, but it is in fact Bratislava and you're supposed to commute. Except that it works out handier this way for once.
If it's any use to you, I got a train from Bratislava to Vienna this past summer, and it was handy enough. The only hassle was swapping trains at the border...and that the train on the Slovakian side had no air-conditioning...and that the train staff spoke absolutely no English and me no Slovakian.
Booked flights from amsterdam to Bratislava (Thur )and return to stansted Mon for the cost of taxes only.
Just need cheap flight to Amsterdam and from Stansted. The times are also pretty handy for preceeding and follow up flights. Air Berlin times dont suit.
Anybody got info on the venue? How many tickets will we get allocated? A few friends were asking me about this one. Sitting in the home end wont be an option I'd imagine.
Venue info in the thread summaries thread in this forum. Tickets 10% of capacity, I would imagine.
the slovalian fans have a very hostile rep, i wonder if they be out for beatings or banter??,
Ryanair have put their Bratislava flights up for Thursday 6th September and Saturday 8th September at a current cost of 39.99 each way excluding taxes. The flight leaves Dublin @ 5.55 a.m on the Thursday.
I've just booked the flight out as I'm going on to Prague for the Czech Republic. The flight cost me 70.53 including taxes, handling charge and 1 bag.
Just for information I am doing the return from Prague on the 14th September with Skyeurope to Brussels for 35.23 and from there with Aer Lingus to Dublin for 85.52
I wouldn't be too concerned. There were certainly problems when England played there and i believe when Russia did too recently. However in both cases it was locals feeling they had to demonstrate their hooligan capabilities.
2 people I know well from Limerick were there when Rangers met Artmedia and there were no problems whatsoever if you don't count serious alcohol abuse. I don't recall any issues when celtic went there either.
I was there last year unfortunately in a week with no football on however I had a couple of long chats with a hotel concierge who is a keen Artmedia fan. He wouldn't go to Trnava v Artmedia anymore due to serious hooligan issues. He didn't expect any problems for the Irish game even from the Trnava fans assuming the game is played there.
The away game I'd be most concerned about it all kicking off at is Wales.
i doubt there will be trouble with the welsh, granted cardiff have a "firm" of hooligans but id say it will be fine..Id be more worried about the slovakian friends, and would deffo not go near the slovak end, i was in the german end in stuttgart, and it was fine, but there ar alot of facist hooligans in slovakia, that wont need any excuse. Just to be cautious though dont go to the slovakian end!!
I wouldn't be concerned about the home end in Slovakia.
We're no challenge to the local hooligans. We are not going to offend them.
I'm more cocnerned re thwe Welsh game as Cardiff and Swansea are 2 of the worst clubs in the UK to visit as an away fan. There were some "issues" when Northern Ireland played in Cardiff. Some of the singing in Germany in the pubs and on the street would definitely provoke a reaction in Cardiff.
I still think we'll be all right but this is the one I'd be cocnerned about of our fixtures this year.
Lads thanks for the info
will risk it if dont get an FAI ticket

See the thread summaries thread for some ideas.
E119.99 now to Bratislava...
****e I've got tickets for Ireland - Namibia on the Sunday in the Rugby. Don't think I'll convince her that two sporting occasions in a weekend is good value for money.
As I'm looking at organising my own trip around the two qualifiers in September, do any of the travel agencies do ticket only deals for Ireland away games, or if you book tickets with them, do you have to go on their whole package??
The simple answer is they don't do ticket only deals. Where the rip off travel agents  make their killings in on charging the clients (fans) rip off prices for hotels, flights, bus transfers etc.
Thank goodness because of sites like this :) and the internet fans can get information and help in organising away trips at fractions of the prices these ba$t**** charge. If you are looking for tickets for the 2 games send an E-Mail to the FAI asking them to send you an application form for tickets (Details on FAI website). There will probably be a waiting list for ticket thread for the games on here as well so you could put your name down for tickets on that also. Don't start one yet as Moderators are to draw up rules for the operation of these threads.
Flying out of London is a good option, looking at flights and its easy enough for us to fly from Derry. Only thing we need is match tickets, but wouldnt bother me to much going into the home ends. But my friends on the other dont fancy that.:)
I think it was to do with England being England, and everyone being up for that. Also them having black players. Don't think we have any?
So long as we don't get mistaken for England!
E159.99 to Bratislava now. Cheers Aidano!
To be honest when flying into Vienna Airport you can see Bratislava it is that close (20Km). There is a bus just outside arrivals at Vienna going to Bratislava every half hour or so just pay the driver when boarding. www.aerlingus.com www.skyeurope.com and www.ryanair.com check these outfor flights and for the bus if you want to book in advance go to http://www.viennaairport.com/jart/pr...ve-mode=active

Has anyone spoke to the FAI about tickets for the two away games ? I keep looking on the FAI web site and they are still taking about San Marino. Should I contact the FAI and apply for the two games or is it best to wait until until they put something on their site .
Nothing doing for a couple of months yet, I'd say.
Can you apply for tickets for the two games in September from the FAI now or do you have to wait until the FAI has something on their web site ????
Sorry Stu
It looks like I keep repeating myself , I said repeating myself .
You'll have to wait until it's up on the FAI website before you send in an application. Normally there's a specific application form for each away game which in this case will probably not be available until about May or June. If you keep an eye on this and the FAI websites you won't miss the boat to apply.
Not fully correct lads :p
At the start of the campaign I E-Mailed the FAI and asked them to send me an application form for tickets for all the away games. They have put me on a list where the application form comes out to me automatically so I don't have to keep an eye on the site. I have received application forms for all the away games. :)
Send an E-Mail to the FAI asking them to send you an application form for the tickets for these matches when they are open for applications. They will then send you the application form(s) and you go into the shakeup with everybody else subject to whatever criteria the FAI have
I see. Good man AidoM. I'll get on to that.
So what you're saying is that you're relying on the FAI to remember to send the form out to you?
