Drogs are doing instalment payments on their season tickets also.
Seemingly good news coming from Dundalk next week, tax bill reported to have been settled or offer accepted either way tax cert meant to be on its way, and the club seem confident the FD licence will be confirmed by middle of next week.
Signings then due to be announced after the tax cert / licence confirmed, so things are moving. Would be thinking most / all will be FD players, and that will suit.
The senior taxman in the country grew up beside me about 10 minutes walk from Oriel, mad Celtic fan, wouldnt have been an Oriel regular but would have given as much wriggle room as was legally possible. The amount in question wasnt huge in the grand scheme so a payment plan wasnt tough to sign off on. Id have been more concerned by other creditors and how they could have moved to get payment but they now also seem fine with whatever has been agreed. Serious credit to whomever has been able to talk these people owed money in to being nice about it all. There better be follow through though!! These things tend to be one time offers of goodwill.
It never ceases to amaze how the supposedly small things matter so much, like getting minor remedial work done on the YDC to allow it to reopen - on the surface it feels that if there is this attention to detail with the small stuff then it is at least possible the big stuff is being done right too. If clean toilets under the stand become a things rather than half storage areas I might start thinking that where we are now is the best thing to have happened. The immediate post P6 era admin acted as if these things were beneath their remit when they knew that fans were being wound up by basic neglect of Oriel never mind a lack of bigger plans and it was just lazy - how hard was it to delegate?
It's in one of the local papers in Dundalk today that we will be getting our licene tomorrow and also we have been giving permission to not change the pitch in oriel until next season
All a case of nothing to see here then. God love the FAI licensing dept.
The ultimate box ticking exercise!
Hardly new stuff. Deadlines set in stone, debt restructured, revenue issue tax clearance, and mere plans for infrastructure have been sufficient for clubs forever. As always with the FAI decisions lead to more questions, grant for the pitch must be ok to sit there until next season, floodlights possibly the same if ok for 1st Division, budget for a penniless club no problem. Will be great craic if we go on a cup run and end up with a home draw, a televised semi final especially against a premier division side!
Box ticking is what you want with licencing, pass or fail.....one day....
I'll be absolutely delighted if/when Dundalk get a licence but the FAI have created a serious problem for themselves going forward here. They essentially extended the deadline to allow one club to limp over the line and now they are giving them any amount of deregations (Nesta is correct that nearly every club in the league gets them) but it will be interesting to see what happens if there is a serious injury caused on that pitch in Oriel this season when it should have been ripped up by now. Can they be sure the floodlights will survive the season, they were reportedly on their last legs last season. Dundalk have been treated very poorly by the fai down the years but they've done them a serious turn here. Would they have done the same for a smaller club in the division? I'm not so sure..
Some parrallels here with when Derry City collapsed- the rules were ignored to get the latest incarnation back in (the licensing deadlines were already gone).
But a few years later when the rogue trader wrecked Galway United and the trust kept them going to the end of the season, the trust were not allowed in.
Inconsistency has always been a feature.
Was also in the local paper that P6 left 900k in the bank and wrote off a loan of 1.7m also when they left. Interesting that Statsports 'sponsorship' was over 600k after taking over. The finances shown are just mad. Its as if people just stopped bothering with efforts to generate income beyond matchdays at some point in 2022 and in to 2023 but kept spending, transfer fees and all.
Not suggesting this happened but it looks like a takeover or a significant new investor was expected, would plug some holes (maybe to just get to another Euopean slot and continue winging it) but never materialised - fire sale, no full checks on a buyer, cant manage debt and other legacy debt also appears etc. It does explain why sponsorship fell so dramatically in one season if Statsports werent adding another wedge, it changes the perspective on whether that owner was as indifferent as they have been called out on. Maybe why there were differences of opinion in the boardroom (when and what the battle of the boardroom still piques interest!!) It was all just bizzare. Its amazing to see how opinions on things have been evolving locally, even that Mad Bill wasnt the maddest of it all!
There was some handwaving over differences in the tax systems/financial years. Along other things. But the whiff of fudge has lessened over the years, only to come back strongly when needed.
The Galway thing was convenient for the fai, with whatever other irons they had in the fire and look how that turned out. The Derry thing was decidedly not, following so closely after Shels.
Dundalk awarded a licence for 2025.
Pretty cruel stuff from the official LOI Twitter account by clickbating Dundalk fans with the below tweet :D I genuinely thought I was clicking into a link about their licence being refused with the way it was worded!

Seemingly avoiding SCARP also, I knew a deal was done with Revenue last week, but this is even better news now.
Can finally start to look ahead to 2025 and re-build things on and off the pitch.
Regardless of any rivalry, I would genuinely never like to see any LOI club die, banter is one thing (and good fun !!), but all clubs mean a lot to so many and their community, we may be on a different path now, but to still have football and a club to follow every Friday is magic, so its just great news.
What has happened is in the past, no point looking back, the millions, highs of euro nights and away travel, the league titles, won't achieve anything, time to move forward now.
New chapter.
It’s good news alright and we can move forward now.
I’d be worried though about the current owner letting Brian Ainscough off the hook completely. He has also apparently taken a swipe at the new supporters trust in his press conference today. Not exactly a sign of someone who wants to engage with the supporters going forward.
The two years that Galway Utd had out of the League really demonstrated that point Oriel. During our seven year stint in the First Division, even after a defeat, annoying as it was, in the back of my mind was the thought "at least we have a team to support". While we didn't win anything this season, it felt so successful after what we went through.
Delighted that Dundalk got a licence and avoided examinership and SCARP. The League badly needs new teams, not less.
I wouldn't trust Temple as far as I could throw him. Seems like a hot head too. I see it all ending in tears although I hope I'm wrong.
100% agree. Nobody can say the warning signs weren't there from day one.
The man saved the club from going under at the last minute, managed to keep it going until the end of the season and has now managed to keep us out of scarp (admin) and has plans in place for the club going forward
I can't see how people would have an issue with him
Do you know the details o =f the mortgage issue? Bating men in the stand, its not hrd to bait the people in question. Some straight talking, calling things as they are from his perspective is a pleasant change from the BS and spoofing of a past COO. It may hit the rocks but as far as getting back to basics and smoking out the hornets nest is a positive start. Ogle is a divisive figure and if he had the new trust and club truly at heart he would realise this and take a step back. He is unlikely to do so because publicity and public sparring with somebody, anybody, is what sustains him and nourishes his ego. Others in the trust should speak up. He also was in the 1903 and took it over before health meant he had to take a break but he railroaded his way in to position in 1903 and founding members were puhed aside. There were mad letter written with solo runs then too so its hard not to disagree with JT on the things being said and he was straight up about where his issue lies. For as log as the trust is not involved they are growing the warchest also.
I would.(Trust Temple)Did you watch the presser? Have you seen the debt that stat sports and fastfix ran up & left ainscough facing (albeit he was naive himself)
Temple took the club on when it was in total rag order and nobody else wanted it ,himself and the most honest guy I know, Peter halpin have fought through thick and thin to try and sort deals with creditors. Thankless work done. Temple nor halpin are rich people. And one thing certain, they won't become rich having control of Dundalk.
#1Personal issue between the man and mortgage company
#2 nobody was "bated"
At times, especially after a few drinks somebody needs to ring you a taxi Even though you don't agree the taxi need to be rang!
It's sad all the same the way that story played out ?
I imagine Brendan Ogle is the same one whos a trade unionist lads?
TBH don't really know much about him, but saw a clip of an interview after Dundalk were awarded a license and he seemed to be implying Dundalk were being persecuted by just having to follow the licensing rules every other club has to abide by. Something about having to show they had the funds not just saying they did
You could certainly look it that way if you like. What he was saying imo is that the accounts submitted were scrutinised in detail, that 'budgeting' wasnt suffcient but proof that the figures budgeted for were concrete. The context is important where he started off saying that previous budgets submitted by Dundalk under Statsports/AC under which licences were secured were, to put it nicely, bull sh1t. That the finances provided to BA to obtain a licence were cooked. He alluded to the FAI beaing embaressed and angry about this and so these accounts were under much heavier scrutiny than would be the norm - say for example projected gate income being pushed to the limits but instead must be conservative. Persecution was not what was being suggested but that there were a serious amount of hoops that had to be jumped through in a short period of time.
Quite frankly Im surprised by the insinuations that are negative on JT here. Accepting that we dont know what the future holds over the longer term, what he has achieved is nothing short of miraculous, all the moreso that this has been done by someone who doesnt have deep pockets. There is an undertone by some in this thread that sounds close to begrudging that Dundalk have survived, avoided SCARP and obtained a licence for 2025. People complaining about extensions of licencing deadline, comments on personal issues of JT, suggestions of him baiting people in Oriel, suggestion that he thinks Dundalk were being persecuted. Sorry to disappoint folks!
*not sure is its particularly relevant or fair to add but JT's father died last week after a period of illness, and I think it adds to what he has personally managed to get done for the club.
Any time I hear John Temple speak it's like Father Ted winning the golden cleric "and now we move on to the liars!". Great entertainment, congrats on the licence
If Dundalk's licence has been facilitated by a bit of fudge, I'm not too bothered. Yes there should be consistency but elite licencing costs money.
The likes of Klub Kildare and CK United who are proving dependability through the academy leagues need to be looked after as well.
I'm of the opinion there's a time and place for everything. A press conference that should be celebrating the hard work done by himself and many others to get Dundalk to this point should be moment to try to bring everyone together, celebrate that hard work and bring some optimism for the upcoming season. Have other meetings, press conferences/releases to address other things. I understand there's a lot happened behind the scenes but Temples just made it so the eyes aren't on the good work done but another person who, from what it appears isn't involved in running the supporters trust only a member of it? Why shoot yourself in the foot when there's still a long race to run?
I cant disgree on timing. A skilled politician would have said a multitude by saying little. In terms of what people are getting from what was said, ie Dundalk fans, it is that a licenece is secured and Dundalk FC will continue in to 2025, the rest is ultimately noise.
I did think its was ....ummm.... quite sweet of Gerry Malone to suggest someone to appoint to the academy during his slot for questions, offering advice during the press conference, and that slightly unusual moment was dealt with in a nice manner, no rolling of eyes or looks of wtf - understanding the eccentric nature of Gerry and that it came from a genuine love for the club was how it was managed. There has been a lot more of this type of stuff in dealing with fans during a difficult time than what people are nitpicking on. JT wasnt a household name in Dundalk and now cant walk a few metres without someone wanting to offload and that cant be easy. One thing we are not short of in Dundalk are opinions!!
Do I think he is THE white knight, well tbh what I knew of him prior I wasnt optimistic, there were rumours abound on who he was fronting for and if there were truth to most Id have walked away from supporting the club. But so far so good, he has done what the vast majority felt was hopeless, he has broken the back of a cabal of self important self professed football administration genii. He has made difficult decisions, making people redundant without alienating those same people who still have plenty to offer and may in the future be able to get back on board for a wage. Do i think that the future of the club is fully secure, its LoI and any LoI fan of any club shoud know that there is always risk. If we have a good season and are promoted the pitch and floodlights may not meet licencing for Premier Division standards so will need to be replaced, will we have the means to do so in 12 months? It could be another crisis and if not promoted we may not get another year out of the pitch anyway. So we have bought some time really and an opportunity to build from the bottom up a club that can avoid the reoccurance of recent events and 'performances' of some club admin.
For what it is worth, in relation to the new Trust, Brendan has been saying things that have been back tracked on and has been caught out on making claims that couldnt be backed up. Thats not saying it was an official stance or that the overall intent was malevolent. He is a combatative character, he thrives in conflict and there are times when that is important. It is unfortunate if conflict is created because that is when strengths come to the fore. Brendan is well known, has a thick skin and will always be divisive, a born politician if he had taken that route. But his reputation and profile does get attention, what he says is heard and will get a response. I feel that right now he should be held in reserve!
That's actually very good, he always reminds me of a guy you would meet in a residents bar of a hotel, most have been to one, especially if you have young families, Dad pops down for a few late ones and talks absolute ****e to whoever is there and doing the same.
That said, he has delivered the holy trinity of FD Licence, Tax Clearance and Scarp** avoidance, fxxx knows how to be fair, but he has, so I take my hat off to him, that said he's still quite entertaining.
**Not to be confused with a mini scrap at the last home game of the season when handbags** happened as the ex regime were in sight in the main stand at FT, you got to just love the LOI at times.
** Actually more Fr Ted. Mrs Doyle tea room, I'll pay for this........................
