Our win ratio halves when he's in charge, but I agree he's not biased.
I know some of the ones here saying it looked like a penalty, but it looks ridiculous on the replays.Turner's dive was pathetic.
I'd have questions marks over the first penalty too, btw.
As an aside, according to StattoLoI on Twitter, that's the latest goal ever scored in the Premier Division.
There was 5 mins added on at the end of the game, mainly due to McGinty/other Sligo players time wasting in the second half, Mulraney going down injured, 2 goals and 5 separate substitution breaks up to that point. During that injury time Malley was down injured for a few minutes, as well as the tantrums that needed to be dealt with after the penalty was awarded
I don't normally post on this forum, I use it to keep in touch with news, but the penalty decisions against Sligo Rovers tonight were an absolute disgrace. I watched on LOI and have spoken to a number at the game and watched the highlights over and over. I'm sorry but the referee really has some questions to answer. If that is an example of the officiating we have at the elite level of football in this country, we are screwed. I have accepted dodgy decisions many times over the years in the past, but I genuinely think that you really have to question this guy. If he is not capable of reffing at this level then it needs to be addressed. A disgrace. I see some Pats fans at the game are saying otherwise. I mean, come on.
I fully expect referee Rob Hennessy to be disciplined by head of refereeing Rob Hennessy.
Treaty are still in the promotion hunt. A creditable draw on Friday. Athlone and UCD are near certainties. Bray and Finn Harps are the teams to catch for those in pursuit.
The first penalty I initially thought was outside the box at the game, but it was absolutely a blatant foul in any case. There's a reason Pijnaker was trying to argue that it was outside the box rather than not a foul at all, and it's because he got skinned and cynically tried to take Mulraney down outside the box as many defenders would in that situation. When watching back though it continues into the box and therefore is a penalty, he still has a hold of Mulraney's arm when he first touches the ball in the box so I don't really see the argument personally.
The winner I can see that it's soft having watched it back but Chapman is still stood about a yard behind Turner - who is favourite to win the ball - with a hold of his jersey so is just asking for problems. The angle on the Camac made it seem quite clear too but can appreciate the camera angles on LOI TV make that less apparent. Hennessy had loads of shockers anyway between hilarious non-calls of foul throw-ins, Pats getting a dangerous free kick for Jamie Lennon falling over the ball etc, but don't really get all the commotion with the penalties.
Now I will be clear, there def was a slight pull on the jersey, but just for 2 seconds or so, silly by Sligo player as he only had to jockey the ball out, or get goalside.
Then we look at the Pats player, there is no way that 2 second pull warranted his collapse on the deck, but it was 2-2 and prob last kick, so would most players do it, possibly?
I can see why ref gave it though, but again there was not enough in it for me as clear cut, if was exact same challenge / contact in centre circle, would ref have given a free, I am not so sure he would. The classic 'remain to be convinced' scenario.
Pats were very lucky to get it, Sligo have every right to feel devastated.
Red for Derry, very naive from Sam Todd already on a booking, the first one was very soft I thought though….
Shocking by the ref, shouldn’t be a yellow in this game at all, stupid challenge by Todd though.
How poor is kearns ‘ distribution though?
Have not been watching the match since the first half but I think I am not going to suffer from FOMO.
Best possible result for Rovers, its the hope that kills you.
Surprised Shels didn’t go for the game, massively cautious performance resulting in only 1 shot on target at home to 10 men for 60 mins
Really disappointing game overall, thought Derry looked good despite the red card but they understandably ran out of steam. On paper the league is extremely interesting but it feels like there's been a real lack of consistent quality that is the root cause of it.
Your right, crazy to think still in the mix with only 7 victories out of 25 games playing some poor enough fare all season though it must be said recent performances have improved a bit.Played well v Cork the other night for well deserved draw but begs the question given the runaway leaders cant find a win v Treaty why are they in 8th position .
Yeah, didn't get that. If they'd have won tonight, it's our league challenge over (even if I'm still sceptical about it). A loss would be manageable. Still, a draw isn't too bad for Shels (or anyone else).
Thought Derry managed the match well after the sending off, which we can have no complaints about.
Duff seemed fairly wound up after the match with Higgins and Hegarty. Bit of entertainment there.
I think this is a general problem with the sport. In bigger leagues (that get paid for live coverage) or international tournaments…. Countless replays in post match analysis on fine decisions whether “was there contact?”. It’s a contact sport ffs. The grief I took from footballers growing up cos I played basketball “you play a non contact sport”. You watch the two now and only one do they fall over if they think there’ll be contact of if they feel a little touch.
yes, there was some contact. No way in the world is it a penalty
[QUOTE=Calcio Jack;2196218]Excellent result for us…. Big chance lost by Shels …. They seemed happy to settle for a point when they could have almost killed off a Derry challenge…. Slim chance now for Rovers …. And hopefully by Wed we’ll be reinstated in the cup and the double will be on ….[
hahahahahah!!
Did Duff blank Higgins at the end or refuse to shake his hand, if it was either he is one big baby. Pathetic stuff.
Higgins still firmly believes it’s a 3 horse race for the title anyway, looking at the fixtures over the next 5 games it’s still a long shot for them to make up the gap, away games at Dalymount and in Derry will be tests in the middle of European fixtures….
Frustrating night. We can't get out of our own way, as ever. Felt the ref was quick to the cards but ultimately Todd did it to himself.
It was a tremendous shift, showing way more resilience than has often been on show so far this season, to get a point. But I thought Shels were woeful before the sending off and only marginally better after it. They were there for the taking and we let them off the hook.
Hard for me to imagine them going on a perfect run after what they served up there so hope springs eternal, but I'd be much more concerned about our consistency than anyone else's.

Duff not happy, but is he ever?
Honestly not sure he has any reason to be unhappy. Draw is a decent result for them. He could be frustrated they didn't push on after the sending off to go and win the game but that's hardly Higgins fault. Was it even a particularly dirty game? The sending off was fine but I wouldn't have said they were particularly dirty tackles?
If everyone is talking about Duff nobody is focused on Shels not making the most of the opportunity or putting pressure on his side keeing their noses ahead. He is feisty but not stupid, method to the madness and its hard not to disagree mostly with his post match observations on officiating etc (imagine he was on the end of that Hennessy decision....). Wouldnt be surprised if Hegarty was the one stirring it up mind, he lays them and then blends in, albeit off the sideline he's a sound chap. Duff with O'Brien, a calmer individual is a very good manager and assistant mix.
I thought Adam Ó Reilly for Derry was very good. Derry have better players than Shelbourne but being a man down they had to work hard, which may be the making of them and Higgins. I was sitting close behind the managers area and their was plenty being said all game, My take on it was that the Derry bench were determined that there wouldn't be another Dublin home town referring of the game after what happened on Sunday. And they achieved that.
Home town refereeing? I get much more the impression that they generally detest all LoI sides or dont give a fiddlers at best!
The reaction to the late penalty in inchicore is absolutely hilarious. Politicians sticking their oar in on social media and everything.
You arent allowed pull an opponents jersey. I appreciate the camera angle isnt great for it and likewise for people in the stand, but it happened. It might be softish, it might sting, but a sligo player pulled the jersey, I was right in line with it on the camac.
On a seperate note, I cant get over how p1ss poor shels and derry were on Monday - absolutely woeful stuff.
I agree it was a penalty, soft one but still a peno. My biggest problem is there seems to be no consistency on reffing decisions. We've all seen attacking players dragged to the ground by their shirts on corners and nothing given or worse a free out because the ref thought they were both at it. Something needs to be done about the standard of refereeing in the league. The issues are obvious every week but there doesn't seem to be any change from the FAI. I think there will be a strong push from many of the clubs to break ties with the FAI citing things like refereeing and the current issues with the Bohs v Rovers cup game as obvious areas where the FAI have made a mess of things
Funniest thing about that comment is that Rob Hennessy is from Limerick
