Now that the Derry game is getting closer my pessimism is receding ever so slightly. Still expect us to lose, but if Derry go out of Europe they might be on a downer, so you never know. I think we’re playing slightly better, but frustratingly still not picking up points on a consistent basis.
Would absolutely love another cup final. Last years was such a special occasion. Whoever is in it this year will have to go some to match it.

As much as media is moving online, traditional tv is how most of Ireland consumes sport. This was plain to see with the whole GAA-Go debate and the domestic football won’t grow much beyond its loyal core while games are hidden away on LOITV.
General media/press coverage of the Cup (outside of the final) is in a bad way. No efforts to showcase it as our version of the FA Cup, highlighting the non-league teams etc.
I’m hoping after tonight that Rovers send out the U19s on Friday and rest the players for the really important game next week. It is the right and fair thing to do for everyone.
Sorry to burst your bubble Ger but I'd wager Bradley and the team see the bohs game as the same if not more importance than the Sparta game- few ,if any would give us a chance against Sparta, and the players want silverware this season as the league is clearly out of reach.

That's what has happened to the FA Cup in England through the BBC network and the League Cup with Sky & ITV.
The format may have to be looked at. The fact that all the non-league clubs are in their off season doesn't help. Maybe after the 2nd round games should be one off and go to extra time and penalties!

This week though? I'd have the game scheduled for Saturday or unday afternoon myself mainly for the clubs to minimise the risk of sanction when under close scrutiny. What sort of revamp? You can't change an entire senior cup competition to suit the junior leagues, in which the junior clubs don't win any games. It's already weighted from July onwards to suit the junior teams back in preseason, and there's already plans to change all football in Ireland to a calendar season.Quote:

Manufacturing an annual trouncing of non-league teams wouldn’t do much to improve the competition. For what it’s worth I don’t think there’s anything drastically needed to improve it as it is now. If anything, the FAI Cup means more to fans of clubs in this country than a lot of other leagues national cup does IMO, given it’s one of only two major honours up for grabs, as well as accounting for a quarter of the countries European spots. Feel for Longford and it's barely 10 minutes into the game. They've been woeful, Galway 2 up and it doesn't really flatter them. Looks like a horrible evening for a game of football and if they let their heads drop Galway could rack up an embarrassing score line.
