Harps 2-2 Derry in Finn Park…
Galway beat Cork 4-0 today think it was played in fermoy
He's made what could be called a couple of statement signings. No Galway or Waterford, or a dogged Ollie led Harps, should have the biggest budget (4th highest is only the Premier League salary cap) so at face value bouncing straight back should be very achievable. That said it is the 1st Division, UCD could run away with it, other sides, even Athlone improving or building so maybe you are right. If not finishing 1st the 2024 promotion relegation play-off could be big one (Dundalk and Cork adding to some old rivalry maybe!?), unless Drogheda are involved a pretty big fish will be in the 2025 1st Dvision.
Fleetwood beat Waterford 2 0 last night with Ronan Coughlan getting both on his first start for Fleetwood. Around 30 Waterford fans made the trip over.
Galway are certainly busy this week - they begin their trip to the Kingdom with a friendly tonight against Tralee KDL side St Brendan's Park, before their clash with Kerry in Killarney tomorrow.
Also, a charity match has been announced for Friday, February 2nd, at Mounthawk Park, so the MSC Quarter-Final against Cobh that weekend must be on either Saturday or Sunday.
Sligo/Derry called off this evening.
Not a great game with it being pre-season and all, but happy enough with what i saw. Derry dominated the first 20-30 min and it looked like it was going to win by 4 or 5, but Harps started to grow into the game. All the new player did well especially Cawley who looks like he'll be a vital player for Harps. Did well to come back twice to get the draw, Flood's goal a bit of individual brilliance and Hutchinson finished off a well worked team molve with a headed goal.
Id say that was particularly cold one in Finn Park!!
Kerry make minimal changes for tonight, but feature no fewer than seven trialists on the bench!
Usher v Pats in the LSL confirmed for the Grangegorman Astro next Monday. I’m not sure where on the campus it is tbh.
30 | Goal for Galway United. Stephen Walsh.
Kerry FC 0-1 Galway United
HT | One goal separates the two sides at the break.
Finishes 3-0 to Galway, with their trial GK and our mystery left-winger impressing during the second half.
51 | Goal for Galway from Trialist 3.
Kerry FC 0-2 Galway United
64 | Goal for Galway. Ed McCarthy’s strike took a big deflection.
Kerry FC 0-3 Galway United
Full Time - Another 90 minutes in the legs on a bitter cold evening in Killarney
Best of luck to Galway United for the season ahead!
Daire McCarthy for Sean McGrath was the only change from Friday's win over Avondale. Tuta came on for his debut in the second half.
Dundalk 0-1 Longford in Oriel Park.
Trialist 3 for Galway Utd is Karl O’Sullivan. A goal and an assist for him tonight.
Was Healy any good for ye legendz?
Dundalk played some really nice stuff first half, Brady made a number of top class saves.
Second half a bit of a non event given number of changes but Longford struck early and dug deep to hold on, sub keeper Harrington with an incredible save from a Benson FK. Great run out for Longford and playing under a bit of pressure can only be good for them.
Oriel in an awful state tonight. Place was filthy dirty, no concessions on sale and bar closed. Owner has a lot to do besides his broken seat which was funny. He took it well..
I was very impressed with him in the few sub appearances he made last season. A big future ahead of him
Kerry FC 0-3 Galway United
I thought we (Kerry FC), did very well and made the game very competitive for Galway. Two excellent finishes and a big deflection from Galway was probably justified, as they were probably 3-4 goals superior on the night. The big thing for me was that Defensively, Kerry seemed to have plug big holes that gave up so many late goals last year when under any type of pressure from opponents. Last year it was men vs boys, but I am optimistic if we can pick up some more artillery in the attacking half, then Kerry will be more than capable of getting a half dozen wins at least this year!
Any Galway fans at the game who may have a different view?
Two competitive games in one day on the third of Feb. That will be a new one. It’s 11am v UCD in the bowl & 3pm v St Mochtas in their ground on the northside.
Sligo/Derry refixed for tomorrow at 2.30….
What are the two competitions? I assume the LSC is one? Surely you can't play trialists in competitive fixtures
Both games are in the LSC
Pats play Cork tomorrow at 2pm, unsure of the venue though. I’d imagine it’s one of AUL, Blanch IT or Abbotstown. Can anyone confirm?
