Just in the interests of balance :D ;)
No doubt the Poisonous Little Dwarf Fenlon will consider himself the greatest manager of all time after beating a Ten man, understrength, unfit team of part timers from one of the lowest rated leagues in Europe.
Come on the Steaua!!!
That do for the time being? :D
:D :D :D LOLQuote:

Pat Dolan's comments about Glentoran's offhand attitude to playing in Europe were spot on for once.
They had some of their best players missing on holiday for the first leg for example. The sort of crap that EL clubs used to indulge in 15 years ago.
They had a part time " ah sure we have no chance anyway "attitude to the games despite the fact that Linfield won the Setanta Cup at Tolka Park a few short weeks ago.
I know Réiteoir is being tongue in cheek a bit but not entirely wrong. However I would point out the unfit team of part timers used to be us. Now we're whipping these boys around. It's a progressive step.
That's exactly it, yeah they're poor, but how nice is it to win a European game 6 bloody 2 and think that we should have won it by even more. That used to be us.Quote:

we keep good company!
This may be temporary - obviously hope it's not - wouldn't that make a great story for Irish newspapers? The lazy fcukers who write on sports won't even know about that table and if they did, either wouldn't bother to mention it or use it as an excuse to badmouth the EL.Quote:

Do away goals count extra in these qualifying rounds?
It would appear not if the following report is factual.
I was checking out the soccer reports on sportinglife.com about the games last night and I came across this game.
Kairat won the first leg 2-0 at home, this report is from the 2nd leg.
"Artmedia Bratislava who beat Kazakhstan's Kairat Almaty 4-1 for a 4-3 aggregate win. It was a dramatic match with goals from Balazs Borbely and Daniel Tchur scoring for the Slovakian side to level the aggregate scores. When Andrey Bogomolov scored a stoppage time goal for Kairat it looked as though the Kazakhs would progress but Jan Kozak's spot kick took the match into extra time. In the last seconds of the extra period Pavol Stano netted the decider."
No, away goals count. We progressed via away goals in the first round last season.
I've no idea what happened in that report, sounds very odd.
Anyone no the attendence or roughly what it was?
Sky Sports text gave a crowd of 6,000.Quote:

Here's hoping Longford and ourselves can go make it a clean sweep (of course you'll have Steaua at home before that won't you?)
Here's thoseleague rankings now. Only country with four wins from four! :) Matched last year's performance (results wise) already too.
Ya you could hear live on RTE shouts of 'ya fcuking feinan B**t**d's' from them last night.. :eek:Quote:

Talking about nicey nice. I am very excited about next week with Cork and Longford. I have verything crossed for them to win. Full support behind them. As for shels, it was great to see us win a euro tie ages before the end. It was just great to see. I know it was a part-time team etc but as was mentioned it was the team we were recently. 4 wins from 4. Lets make it 6 out of 6 !!! :) COME ON CORK and LONGFORD!!
Well done Shells. A great goal by Crowe and another great performance, doing the eircom league proud.
One disappointing thing about the match was the behaviour of certain Glentoran fans. When Jayo took the peno, scarves were thrown at him (ok, they didn't get very far) and then towards the end of the game someone with a Northern accent referred to Dean Delaney as "you Fenian *******".
But 6-2 is great. What's the biggest winnig margin by an eircom League team in Europe, anyone?
I don't know what that is on about. As far as I know that game finished 2-0 and the rest of the goals came in extra time.Quote:

Both sets of fans were in the worst stands for making noise.
The same can't be said for our opposition though.Quote:

I would say more like somewhere between 7-8,000. It was definitely the right idea giving the away fans the Ballybough end or they would have had to turn away a good few people.Quote:

Exactly. The sooner we get out of the Drumcondra End the better.Quote:

It's a pity really because it looks very well, it's a perfect size for Shels' singing support and all the flags around it look class.
