Live coverage of today's game against Azerbaijan: https://rfs.ru/news/209302
Team announced, Tyreke Wright in for the suspended Bolger
Ireland looking threatening every time they press Azerbaijan, with or without possession.
Wright looks like he has grown a bit in the last year- not just his hair but physically.
Knight and Connell are running the middle of the field. They have the ability to pick passes from deep that not many of our senior midfielders have shown in recent years.
Afolabi is going to be some player.
can u leave link for stream please
The keeper spilled a ball in the opening few minutes, and Wright crashed into him. I thought the ref showed him a yellow card, but it's not in the UEFA live text: https://www.uefa.com/under19/season=...x.html?iv=true
1 nil up Wright
cant find stream using that link, only brings me to football union of russia page and cant see any link to game, can u advise please, sorry for being thick.
Azerbaijan down to ten players, second half substitute sent off for an off the ball tackle. deserved the card too IMO
2-0 Jason Knight finished from outside the area after Afolabi had a close range shot cleared
2-1 Penalty saved by Maher, Azerbijan player finished the follow up
Azerbaijan are a very physical side, surprised there hasn't been more cards to be honest.
finished 3-1 Afolabi with the third. Should have been more than three IMO.
Very controlled performance from the U19s, against a physical Azerbaijan side who never looked like troubling the goal, aside from the penalty. Even that came from an Irish mistake, rather than any creativity on the part of the Azeris. If I had to make any criticism, it would be that, when Lyons at right full got forward, his first thought was to cross into the box. Afolabi's a big strong forward, but he was often outnumbered, so the cross really wasn't on. When he did get the ball down, Ireland looked far more likely to create something. On the other hand, not playing the early ball did allow Azerbaijan to get back in numbers.
Ireland top the table ahead of the final group game against Russia on Tuesday. Their second game is against Romania this afternoon, and you'd have to imagine that'll end in a win for the hosts.
Yeah, Azerbaijan defended really deep and couldn't handle a press from us. We look a really good side. It's amazing to think the amount of lads missing and we still look so good. Obviously the Russians present another chance to see how good we are.
I'm impressed by Afolabi every time I see him. He make dangerous runs and can take the ball long and short and always appears to have his eye on goal or creating a goal. His style reminds me of Higuiain.
Obafemi, Parrott, Idah, McAuley, Connolly and Cassidy are all underage for this side? As regards our options, any time I have seen Afolabi he has shown as much potential as all of those bar Parrott. Not to mention you could have Okoflex in there in the future.
Knight looked great today too. And he was in beside Connell who had Championship appearances under the belt.
It's amazing stuff. The next 3/4 years can't pass quick enough from a senior supporter perspective!
Whatever happens at club football for these kids, it’s absolutely vital that the FAI do everything in their power to ensure they don’t end up in some relative backwater in England or Scotland. If they aren’t premier and upper championship level in Eng, we should look to get them on the continent or better still playing for some of the decent Irish sides.
It’s vital they don’t slip away.
Totally agree with this. We need to help lads take the next step past the age of 19 or 20. I would have loved to have seen mcauley for instance come into a club like rovers who are short of strikers to get top level experience on loan instead of 23s football here and there. Of course the English club will have the final say but wood be great if the fai partnered with league of Ireland clubs and actively approach the english clubs with loan proposals s
Anyone know the latest on Ryan Johansson? Is he involved in any of the squads?

No, maybe his transfer must go through.
I hadn't seen this article before. Great stuff.
Russia score in injury time to beat Romania 1-0.
We'll need our draw.
Correction: Goal disallowed! 0-0
We're through.

No wait we're through!! :D
First team to qualify, and with a game to spare!
Wow, that's fantastic! This team looks like it could really make an impact in the finals, with or without the six other star strikers who could have played. And to think, a few of us (myself included) were worried that the U19s were being sacrificed so that Stephen Kenny could have his pick for the U21 game against Luxembourg... how little we knew. Well done to all involved.
Just looking at how the rest of the elite round groups are ahead of the final set of fixtures tomorrow: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_U...ation#Groups_2
Group 2
Greece top the group ahead of England, who they beat on Saturday. Any one of the top three (Greece, England, Czech Republic) can qualify. England possibly have the easier fixture against an already eliminated Denmark, while hoping that Greece and the Czechs can cancel each other out.
Group 3
Norway top the group after beating Germany on Saturday. With eliminated Hungary facing Germany, Norway face hosts Croatia on the final day
Group 4
All comes down to the final fixture between the Netherlands (who Ireland beat in the Qualifying round) and Spain. Netherlands have the advantage of being hosts.
Group 5
Hosts France face table toppers Israel to determine who goes through. Israel haven't conceded in the group so far, they conceded in every game in the qualifying stage, and only need a draw to qualify
Group 6
The only group with two teams with two wins. Scotland face hosts Portugal, with Scotland only topping the table on goals scored.
Group 7
The only group where every team can still qualify, although it would be a surprise if either Ukraine or Serbia did qualify. Hosts, and top scorers, Italy face lowest scorers Serbia, while Belgium, who have the best defence, will play Ukraine
Lineup for the final game against Russia announced

We're 1-0 up with a goal right on half-time.
McGuinness scores a good header from a freekick to go 1-0 up just on the brink of halftime. Tom Gaston has been good defensively at right back. Bolger is Ireland's best player by a long way so far today. They've lost a little cohesion by making so many changes which is understandable. I really rate Festy Ebosele but he hasn't got into the game at all so far.
Mark McGuinness with the goal. Anyone know his connection to Ireland?
2-0! Strong run and absolute cracker of a finish from Ali Reghba - holding off three Russians en route. Lethal.
England and Germany both fail to qualify. Ourselves, Armenia, Czech Republic, Italy, Norway, France, Portugal 2-0 up over Scotland so looks like them and one of Holland/Spain are the 8 who have qualified.
Whisper it, but they've a chance. A serious chance. England going out is huge.
Wow, nine changes and we still beat Russia 2-0! In Russia! That's awesome. So... six competitive games over the weekend... six competitive victories.. not too shabby at all
Russia didn't score a single goal at home in the entire group. Madness. Crazy to think a few years ago we went from having a great group with Hendrick, Doherty and Brady to really struggling. Hopefully this is a sign we have a couple of good groups coming through.
