Conor O'Malley at Pats has serious potential. Another super save one on one on Saturday when we were a goal behind.and may not have recovered from. Having said that I thought he might have done better with Lynchs goal. Great talent though. His recent display against Rovers is one of the best goalkeeping performances I've seen in a long time.
Another howler from Rogers tonight.
In fairness to Rogers that was a woeful ball to him by Boyle.
Yeah but what kind of keeper tries to control a difficult ball like that with a striker coming fast to it. Simply is no excuses for that.
He didn't really have much else to do for the rest of the game
Ball was poor but that's no excuse for the balls Rogers made of it.
He should indeed have put his foot through it
In the one game I don't remember him whacking a ball straight out for a throw that's exactly what he should have done with that pass. Awful pass mind.
It was a dreadful back pass by Boyle, far too much weight on it, and too high also, in saying that Rogers should have done better.
In situations like that for any GK, the priority is to clear the ball only, not to play it. I also don't think Sava is a better keeper, he is there for back up only, but Rogers needs to improve, that's two big mistakes in the last two games, and both were significant in each result.
I think not playing has helped Sava in some people's minds. If he was playing his shortcomings would be on show more.
I think most LOI fans have it right about Rogers. Decent enough at our level but he has howlers in him. Most of the keepers do
On the goal last night, the pass was stupid but he should have controlled it easily enough (or put his foot through it)
Nothing elevates a player's stature like not quite being in the team. It's called the 'Andy Reid' effect.
To me it seemed like Rogers was being a bit it too casual. Not a great pass but certainly not bad enough that it couldn't have been cleared first time. He was also very casual in the game vs AZ where he came out and caught the ball in one hand in the air and stood there with the ball in one hand when he landed. He got a bollicking off Gartland (I think it was) and rightfully so.
In fairness, there was no-one near him when he collected the ball, and it was a relatively easy catch. I thought catching it one-handed was kind of cool; would even have pumped up his confidence. And I think it was risk-free.
It's at times like this that we need Keepers Ball expert insights
Would be interesting to see it again, but I didn't think he was under any pressure from the AZ players. If he dropped the ball, I thought he had time to recover before anyone pounced - but I don't think there was any danger of dropping it. It turned out to be a straightforward catch, and he just turned it into one for the cameras imo. And wouldn't be the biggest Rogers fan necessarily!
Rogers always stands out for me, as the one player in that team who doesn't fit Kenny's philosophy. No wonder he is getting into the Ireland squad lately!
He should not be in the Ireland squad! O'Malley or Slingermann are better than him .... and way younger!
O'Malley
O'Malley is growing into a
Good goalkeeper but it looks like his performance on TV against rovers recently has elevated him to being a top class goalkeeper in some people's eyes. I saw O'Malley play for Rovers B and while he had no protection at all in front of him he always looked Shakey (again probably down to the lack of protection in front of him so maybe a bad example) but he also made a howler or two in his early days playing for Pats. He's clearly growing in confidence the more and more he plays but for him to be considered the best in the league is just silly talk. No doubt he can go on to become it but he's not there yet.
He was 19 playing for Rovers B. His performances then aren't really relevant to now
But they're not completely irrelevant either. It's proves he's capable of making howlers. Just because he was young doesn't mean his performances can be excused, even if he has improved since then.
AC Milan had a 16 yr old in goal for most of last season and he's been flawless.
I'm not comparing their ability.
My point is that you cannot ignore what happened in a players career because he was a few yrs younger then. I'm not saying you need to dwell on it either, but just recognise that if he's made howlers in the past there's more chance he can still make them in the future.
He's not in the squad now for next 2 games and another Rogers Danny who I never heard of is in instead of him.
Every goalkeeper makes mistakes.

Can't believe MON snubbed Shane Supple again.
If Conor O'Malley wasn't making any mistakes, he wouldn't be at St Pat's. Nor would he be in the League of Ireland.
If he wasn't making any mistakes he'd be the best goalie in the world.
For me Supple is well ahead of O Malley. Is that Connor Gleeson from Galway(Dunmore) who has been sub for Shamrock R recently?
At last it appears sense has prevailed - Ian Lawlor brought in from 21's to senior team squad - Lawlor not eligible for next 21's campaign so good for him to join the senior set up. Liam Bossin is eligible for next 21 campaign - Drogheda Utd's Stephen McGuinness called up to 21 squad.
