Only 7 lads showed up to Oscar Traynor training Friday night.
That is v poor numbers but is Friday night a good night for training with most club training on a Friday.if the big players from top clubs don't start committing I would worry for that team. It's a shame really considering desmond were in semi final one year and won it in 08..
Some players involved with the big clubs don't give a flying fiddlers about the Oscar traynor. Shame really
Just saw the fixtures for this weekend and saw that the Oscar traynor team are playing Saturday night at 7.30pm
Would that mean that there are no players from abbeyfeale playing because they are away to nenagh on Sunday and Broadford are home to ballingarry on Sunday too!! No Broadford players either??
It would appear to be the case. Cant understand guys not wanting to play in it. You wouldn't see a gaa player turn down a call up for his county. I can understand if fellas are working shift or away but really can't understand a player not wanting to bother to represent his league and be thought of as one of the best players in it. Baffling
I'm delighted that the league have a team in the Oscar Traynor again this season... provides every player in the league with a chance to perform at an even higher level. Shame that there are so many missing (especially the Abbey contingent) and must say i'm shocked that some of the teams providing players are being asked to play on the Sunday, don't think that ever happened before.
I don't think you can say they don't give a fiddlers, personally i'd be very surprised if players from Abbeyfeale, Broadford & Newcastle West didn't want to play, I just dot know what the story is...
On another note what about the 6-6 draw between Glin & Newcastle West...that game had some entertainment value!
That's a terrible team. 6 players from outside the premier division. 1 Broadford player in the team and 2 Newcastle West players in the squad and not 1 Abbeyfeale? Where is Mike O Keeffe and last year's premier division player of the year Shane Stack? Sean Mcsweeney should also be in the squad. Ray lynch and Joe Mcauliffe from Broadford? One or two more from ballingarry. League is a joke
Absolutely great work shearer with previews for every game and round up of all games in the league also. Great credit and work. Everyone of us will look forward to reading them every week
As far I am aware, each team had the option to play on Sunday knowing that the Oscar Traynor game was on sat night, most said no but some said yes. If the widespread rumours are true though that the Abbey lads were instructed not to play then that is shocking and a disgrace
Heard tonight that abbey had two fellows out of the 7 at training last Friday nite and manager was told after he could not pick any players from abbey as there munster cup game had to go ahead. A disgrace if true and shows total disrespect for Oscar traynor management team an players.. can anyone confirm?
A pity, yes. I remember playing for the Old Mill '95 / '97 time, either their first & second seasons or their second & third, cant say for sure. Great crew of lads and some laugh we had. But I do remember plenty at training, and several lads griping when they were getting no game come Sunday, I even remember us having a game of ball of a Christmas Day one time and there being a good few for that even. A shame they are gone.
0-0 at Clounreask at half time. Even game so far with few chances.
0-0 full time, draw probably about right, Desmond's had slightly more possession but few clear-cut chances in game, Desmond's had two, West Cork had one. Team:Purcell, Brouder, O'Shea, Lynch, Quilligan, Joyce, Van, Kelly, Hartnett, P Nash and D Nash. Subs used: Smith and Gallagher
Limerick district beat kerry 3 0. It's a pity we did not get all 3 points. U would expect to beat the west cork lge at home. Well done to all.
Was at the match Desmond had good chances should have won really, could have done with a few more quailty players like brosnan from broadford and quaid from Ncw, Desmond's bench looked weak, Purcell in goals was very dodgy, Gayer should be on instead of him seen him play from Drom and feenagh very good young goalie.
Terrible result for desmond. Should be beating the likes of them at home.
Wasnt at the game but should be winning these games. Didn't think Peter Nash was in the squad, good option to have, quick player and can shoot off left or right
Great for desmond league yesterday wit abbeyfeale advancing to final of munster competition..looks like final is at desmond league venue..
Preview for this weekend's Limerick Desmond League games.
And because I forgot to link it last week, here's last week's one if anyone is interested - Link.
So I see the Oscar Traynor are playing on Sunday away to Kerry and Carrig are home to Abbeyfeale. What's going on at all?? Abbeyfeale players must not want to play for Desmond's AGAIN
Newb to this. 2 genuine questions from a player who just started playing with a lower div club this season. 1. Why are fixtures in this league only brought out the week of a game? Players cant exactly plan the weekends when their Sunday morning is taken up. Cant head away or go out (well it doesn't stop everyone ill admit). A bit more of a heads up than the Monday or Tuesday before would be handy. Like bringing out all of Octobers fixtures at the start of October etc and any cancelled games get moved to the next month. I noticed some weekends fixtures come out on a Sunday night, other times not until a Tuesday evening, there's no consistency there. 2. (And I understand this question was probably asked plenty of times before) Why the hell aren't games played on Saturdays instead of Sundays? In Dublin and other places they are on Saturdays and work out a lot better in my opinion. Less people hungover or missing because of the night before (this isn't exactly the premier league we are playing in no offence) but also games don't clash with GAA fixtures which loses GAA players on teams also. Im not just talking about my own club this goes across most if not all clubs I've noticed. Just wondering why!
Ah here!! I'm sure someone said prior to their (Oscar Traynor) first game that there were 2-3 Abbeyfeale players at the training?
If going by previous seasons Oscar Traynor panels you'd have to think at least 3 - 4 would want to play (Billy Quirke, Mike Sheehan, Thomas & Chris Smith, Joe Kelliher) have all played and I'm sure I've left out one or 2.
Thanks to 'Shearer' (great work) there is a explanation for the Abbeyfeale contingent being missing the previous day - Kelliher Explains Abbeyfeale Oscar Traynor Omissions.
On the Carrig side then you have Sean McSweeney, Ray Brouder, Ray Cahill & Anthony Molneaux who would have played recently...
If it's a case that players simply don't want to play that is a massive shame... but i can't see that being the case.
Regardless...best of luck to the team on Sunday, they should fancy their chances against a Kerry team beaten 3-0 by Limerick District on match-day 1, hopefully get a result to give them something to play for in the final group game.
I think There was a few abbey and Carrig players named but a combination of injuries and holidays has ruled them out
Somehow I don't believe a word of that. Abbeyfeale players have no interest in representing the league and its a disgrace. I wonder what statement the abbeyfeale management will give this time
Personally I don't believe that fanaticfan. As I've said before you can see from previous seasons they've wanted to & have played.
It doesn't help that a game has been fixed this weekend with the Oscar Traynor also on though...
That's what I'm saying. If they were playing for the Desmond's then abbeyfeale wouldn't be playing carrig on Sunday obviously so its kinda obviously they don't want to play for desmonds
Great previews again Shearer the lower divisions of the league never seem to get much notice until the business end of the season... well researched!
You going to do a preview of the Oscar Traynor game?
fanaticfan we'll get behind the panel that's there... get a good result against Kerry and we'l take it from there.
Thanks very much, I've found that previewing Division 3 has been the most fun this year.
I would preview the Oscar Traynor game but I don't have enough information. I was at the game vs West Cork and would be able to speak about the Desmond side but it's very hard to research another Oscar Traynor team when it's one side with representatives from loads of clubs. Hopefully Desmond pick up a win on Sunday, it would put them in a good position to reach the next stage.
Reads like Jimmy Rabbit interviewing himself in the bath in The Commitments.
😂 haha
I'll have an interview with Brian Barry of my own going up tonight.
