Hayes has never been SFA player of the year.
Pretty sure he was nominated
my bad. I was sure he was.
Did he win goal of the season then ??
Scottish Premier league team of the year in two years according to wikipedia .
I thought he was MOTM on Saturday, not that anyone on the pitch was particularly good.
Any time I have watched Hayes it is hard to know whether he is good or not. He can be volatile in possession. I think he might be a confidence player. When he's going well he can drift into nice pockets of space on the wing and use the ball very cleverly. Other times, he is afraid to run into space and even if he does he might concede possession with an aura of panic.
I think he’s one-dimensional, all heart, runs straight lines well and can whip in a dangerous ball on the move. Good enough to deputise at left back for the best team in the league but I wouldn’t trust him at left back for Ireland. We have better options left midfield / left wing, but at the same time he deserves credit for some of his performances.
He hasn’t played enough at Celtic to be a contender. for spl team of the year He played very well in the away game v Valencia after his return from injury, showed a lot of skill, energy and a “bite your legs” tackle, against a classy opposition, he was Celtic´s best player on the night. At a guess I’d say he’s more effective on the right side but Celtic have better options there.
Another good honest high energy shift off the bench against good opposition last night.
I’d love to see him get a proper run out with Ireland. Good honest, hard-working player with a bit of skill and a hell of a shot on him
Admirable player, but no thanks to a Celtic squad player at 32 years of age. We’ve excellent prospects to blood and they should be prioritized
Yeah, I agree too. His level is probably indicative of the level at the SPL, even at his best for Aberdeen. He probably wouldn't hack it at Championship level. But he has a had a long career now and he's seeing it out as a squad player in a packed stadium of a club he probably has an affinity with as an Irishman, having great moments like scoring against Rangers.
I think it's a no brainer, that Hayes be on the bench and one of the first subs to consider should the occasion call for it, as our right side needed it against Switzerland in the 2nd half.
Instead of taking a gamble with an novice but good player, putting on a player like Hayes you know what he will inject into a tired team, at a minimum.

Is Hayes not playing left side all the time for Celtic?
Ah yes of course.
Doherty and Hayes both struggling to get into the international team
Liam Kelly at Feyenoord too. Although he hasn’t really been able to properly make the breakthrough there.
He earned a 10/10 for effort this evening , such an impressive work rate, the guy just self generates energy. in the mix for man of the match, in the LB position which is probably his weakest.
Funny how people can interpret games so differently. No question he put in a great shift in terms of work rate, in what was a terrific team performance.
But it’s clear he’s not a fullback from his positioning— early in the match especially I thought he allowed his marker to cross into the box too easily. Grew into the match to be fair and I’m happy for him.
BBC's match report said he was out of his depth!
Nice for the Fella to be getting this opportunity heading for the twilight of his career . Nice to play for a Club of Celtics size .
He’s not a full back so a decent shift for him. I’d like to see him in the Irish squad
Not so much out of depth, he was out of sorts in the position as a wing back in a 352, but also the whole team were out of sorts for the first 30 or so minutes. He's a very confident player, as if he hasn't the slightest doubt about his ability to play a role, any role at this level. He eventually got control of the left side, helped out in the centre, even made a few interventions on the right side as well as those support sprints along the left wing.
It's mainly why I'm not a fan of 352 for Ireland, when you don't have round pegs for round holes, it's to do with a level of uncertainty and unfamiliarity with the structure, for those first 30 minutes in that game Celtic should have been punished greater.
But we do have round pegs for round holes in a 352. Stevens and Doherty excel in their roles in a 352. Egan, Duffy, Clark all perfect for it. Which is why it's just bizarre that Mick started 352 with Stevens left centre back. Ridiculous really.
I hear Hayes played really well today.
Regardless of who are in the 5 at the back (3+2), the midfield 3 still need to be able to not lose the ball. The Celtic Lazio game demonstrated in the first 30 minutes what mayhem can happen to a 352 when the middle 3 keep losing the ball. And that was with 3 very decent central defenders.
Of course we have some players who can do 352 but we don't have a team who can just step into the maelstrom of two crunch games and do it against two very capable teams like Swiss and Denmark who will retain possession and press hard until they get the clear advantage.
Ireland's chronic problem is with central midfield and added to that is a coach who is struggling to make the best sense out of what we have.
Medal for Jonny today
In the post match interview he was asked if Celtic deserved to win,
he replied "NO"
Watched this one. Hayes wasn't great. Rangers should have comfortably won that game. Forster man of the match easily, Rangers could be there until next week and not score.
Nice to see Hayes get himself a medal though.
Leaving Celtic with more medals than his pockets can carry.

Any idea who he is signing with?
