Nigel Clough is happy that Stephen Quinn has signed a contract to stay with Mansfield (L2) for 2022/3. Quinn (36) made 43 appearances for Mansfield last season.
Quinn (37) made 44 appearances for Mansfield (EFL2) in 2022/23 and has signed a new one-year contact with The Stags (Mansfield and Ashfield Chad, today).
Turned 39 last month and has been released by Mansfield Town. Quinn (who always reminded me of the Kenny Everett character Cap'n Kremen) made 30 appearances for Mansfield in 2024/25, averaging 30 mins.
With that much playing experience behind him ~ You'd wonder if he would be interested in the coaching side of the game ~ Not many play until nearly 40 and maybe he is not even finished yet ~ He must enjoy the game a lot to keep going at it this long !Quote:

Could be a financial thing too. Although he played a bit of Premier League and at the Euros for Ireland I doubt he ever got a "big money" contract that would see him set for life. It was mentioned last week that his brother Keith had significant financial issues that led to him becoming involved in the Noonan thing, hopefully Stephen has managed his money better than that.

There's a world of difference, financially, between Keith Quinn's five years in the LOI and Stephen's (and even Alan's). Stephen has had four years in the Premier league and eight in the Championship. Along with a season in League one when Sheffield United after they were relegated, and a free transfer to Reading. Over his 20 year career, I reckon he should have earned at least five million pounds.Quote:

True, I was thinking 5m gross. I figured he spent a few years in the Premier league, a few in League one and two, but most in the Championship, earning less than the average in his early years, but more once he was established. The average Championship salary at the midpoint of his career was roughly 250k. So I assumed that he earned that on average and multiplied by 20. I think it's possible I lowballed a bit and that he earned a couple of million more, though.Quote:
