To field their strongest 11 every team relies on the lads playing GAA. Its inevitable that lads will be playing other games and maybe the League Cup helps to ease teams into the League while they're waiting for the GAA lads to come back. However, the availability or non availability of lads should not distort the league and all teams should be starting the league together once the league cup is out of the way.
I honestly believe that one of the most serious problems with Clare soccer is the constant concession to the GAA. No one can deny the league is organised to suit the GAA, and until that changes, the league will continue to decline.
I believe the way forward is a smaller, stronger league, made up of people to whom soccer is their primary interest.
Lads correct me if I'm wrong but every team in premier this year has Gaa players playing for them.Wether it be 1 or 5.no manager will want to start a league without their fittest players.. The realistic problem is numbers.. Every town or village in Clare has been hit by people moving away for work .. Just look at youths league over last 5 years..there is over 25 clubs in Clare soccer but yet the most youths teams we can get is probably 4-5.. Not much can be done about it but the future looks very bleak..
there are sixteen youth teams in the limerick league(two divisions).
the tdsl are(or were) also struggling at this age group, but i am informed that they introduced a scheme that any club entering a youth team would be given 1000 euro as a reward/contribution towards travelling costs etc.
good idea, but only if the league can afford it.
as for the affects of dual players(GAA and soccer),that also affects the limerick teams lads, not so much in the city, which would be competing with rugby rather then GAA,but in the county.
Ya but main difference is the population of limk must be 5 times that of Clare
According to a quick Google search, Limerick isnt that much bigger than Clare population wise. Also, you cant attribute emigration to the demise of Clare youths soccer. The lads emigrating are all in their 20's so it should be Junior Soccer thats being affected most.
bigger concentration of players rather then population, i would suspect.
it would make it easier, travel wise amongst others,to switch clubs, particularly in the city.
also, parish rivalry that exists in the GAA in clare, often overlaps into soccer, preventing players moving.
Guys in fairness every sport is struggling at the moment..the standard of every sport at all levels is gone down hill in the last 3-4 years .. It's a big problem from parents not driving kids to training/games to coaches not giving up their time anymore. To kids preferring to play consoles.. A generation of coaches are finished and not many ex-players are getting involved anymore..just look at all the clubs in Clare soccer struggling .
Most clubs who have struggled with playing numbers only have themselves to blame, it's no coincidence that Newmarket and avenue are dominating Clare soccer, they consistently produce u16/17/youths teams who can act as a conveyor belt to their junior team. Bridge utd have implemented this in the past 3 to 4 years and it's beginning to work slowly. Look at the teams that are struggling for players rinneanna, bridge Celtic, bunratty/cratloe, no youths or schoolboys. Good players don't grow on trees you have to invest time and coaching into them.
Just on the match last night.
Found out today that Darren has fractured his leg. Hopefully he'll make a speedy recovery. Has been excellent in the first few games this season for us
Will that result stand now?
Never nice to hear .. Wishing him a speedy recovery.. As neither team could qualify I'm sure result will stand..

could not agree with you more.
some ex-players through work or family commitments cannot give their time...others choose not to.
shame that some, who have gotten so much out of the game, could not be bothered putting something back in.
we are lucky in a sense that we have a lot of former players coaching from under 6 to youth level.
as for the parents, some are very good, most are either inquiring as to what time will i pick him up,or how come he is not getting on.
we even had some parents saying there"little star" would sign, but only if we picked him up and dropped him home(for training and for matches).
sad really that.
most country clubs in the Limerick league have Gaa players in the club and too be honest its ruining soccer in the Limerick div, you could have a team that has its gaa players and it beats a good team, then when the gaa players are missing they are losing by 6 or 7 nil by a team struggling most weeks, not fair on the other teams, also junior soccer in Limerick gives too much respect to the gaa, we have all heard of stories were the gaa are told not to play a soccer game because they have a gaa game coming up.

Just read the fixture listing for next sunday, nof will have their 2nd league game played while the rest have'nt even played 1. I know fixtures will possibly catch up but its still not the way to start a League championship, a possible 6 pts on the cards so early on.
Does a dead exist for signing unsigned players?
Its a joke that these fixtures (Newmarket & Mountshannon) have been organised when everyone else is playing League Cup or Munster Junior games. The league has start on one designated weekend when every team starts together.
lads seriously do ye ever stop moaning , Newmarket will play League next week the week after they will be playing Munster Junior , Then probably FAI the following week and after that then they are down to travel to Pike to play a munster senior cup game . This should give all teams that have an issue with this to catch up with the two games we will be ahead . Newmarket have to play everyone twice just like every other team in the league have to .
Obviously every team has to play the same amount of games and everyone will catch up but you cant have a lob sided league table already. Every organised league runs on the basis that all teams play together and no team gets an advantage by getting points on the board before others get a chance. And it always seems to be Newmarket who are starting earlier than others :p
I actually think I heard a rumour that Newmarket are giving back handers to the Clare league so that they can get ahead of the rest of the teams . In fairness looking at them over the last two years they could do with this advantage and would not be winning anything unless they started the league before anyone else
3rd yr in a row now newmarket gettting the jump on everyone in the league, very strange to be honest.. and yes everyone has to play each other twice but when teams are 4 n 5 games behind it is a different scenario, bit more pressure not to drop points,,
Haha, it's like Ground hog day.
Its harder to chase than be chased! No team should get a head start in the league.
Listen this is what all ye townies need to do . Ye need to concentrate on what ye're own teams are doing and stop worrying about everyone else . As I said already Newmarket will be playing Munster senior and Junior plus FAI in the next few weeks . This will give ye all a chance to catch up on games . By the way ye are been very disrespectful to Mountshannon by implying that Newmarket will be probably six points clear by next Sunday evening . Oh yeah one more thing I think if you ask anyone of the Newmarket team and Management they would much rather be watching Liverpool and United on Sunday that down to play a game at two o clock
While I agree there that ideally the league should be played round by round so that all teams have the same number of games played...I think there is a flip side, come next April or May when there are only a handful of games left there will undoubtedly be teams with nothing to play for, so playing them would be become an advantage. As its hard to motivate yourself to play when your Mid-table and results are not important.
i just took a look at 3 other leagues website, galway, south tip and aul in dublin, all tables have uneven matches played so its not just the clare league. i'm sure if i checked another 3 leagues sites it would be the same.
Its not been disrespectful to mountshannon but they are going to win the league.i would rather be chased instead of doing the chasing and towards the end of the season when mid table teams have nothing to play it will be easier to get points and increase their lead if they have not been caught before then.some league cup games were called off for s***e reason. Why did'nt they use them as proper league games instead
They are not going to win the league. Sorry. :)
Its seems to be all Avenue doing the moaning about Newmarket getting this head start in the league for the past two seasons, when they should really take a look at themselves and just admit they were not good enough over them two seasons to win the league and cut out the excuses. Am I right in saying Newmarket still had to go on and beat Avenue in Lees road both years to make sure of winning the league? Maybe Avenue should stop looking for other teams to take pts off Newmarket and give it a go themseleves.
Well said
I'm not an Avenue man and never will be!! However, I still think its unfair to all the teams who have not started and will not be starting for another week that some teams get a head start in terms of league fixtures. Whether Newmarket, Mountshannon or whoever it is win or lose is irrelevant. By any chance are the lads defending this from Newmarket?!
Sorry 0030 my post was aimed at mouldedstuds and wolverine who are two Avenue men who seem to be making it sound like Newmarket have a say in when they start the league season and what fixtures they play, which is rubbish they should just face it the best team always wins the league.
As ive said before newmarket were worthy champions, all i am saying is, a bit of common sense would be nice for a change. A league should be started with all teams having a fixture on the same day.
I'm certainly not an avenue man either.
When avenue were winning the league and cups everyone was griping about them. And now new market are successful it's the same thing. Typical. I'd like to see the Clare champions push on and progress in the national comps but the last 2 yrs Nwmk have been knocked out in 1st or 2nd round so whole avenue push on to the 4,5 or 6 round then of course Nwmk are going to have a lot more games played in the league. But the league should at least , for the start of the season have it all even an get 3 or 4 games played equally across the board.
