Slash/Ed, you've always made sense when you've posted, and I don't see to much wrong with what you're saying now, but just a few things.
We've won very little in our history, not much of a bandwagon to jump on. What's happened is while we have a fickle 'sunshine' bunch, our core support has risen significantly (both home and away). Not that long ago, that a poor run would yield home attendances of 1500-2000 but now it rarely drops below 4,000, also certain clubs bring a big away support (and attract a bigger home one) which is a factor in the variation.
No-one on here saw the post-match Fenlon/Dolan incident, so we can't chastise Dolan for it, reports suggest they were as childish as one another. Look back on the thread in the City forum at the time though and I guarentee there'll have been loads of us who called the tripping incident (which was seen) 'sour grapes'.
The Ollie Cahill incident was roundly condemned by fans here, I don't have to read back on the thread to remember that. 451 (the fanzine) did an article on the need to exclude alcohol from the ground and increase the levels of stewarding in the Shed, and most fans would have pointed out the idiot in question had we seen who threw it, I know I would have.
The fundamental difference between the incidents though is no fan would have gotten as close to Ollie Cahill as the water carrier did to Dolan, and there are FAI and UEFA guidelines regarding pitch encroachments that are not being enforced in Tolka.
No-one's suggesting it was the BD boys that were involved in this, if Shels charged under 12's €2.50 rather than leaving skanger kids in for free that incident wouldn't have happened, but the club are responsible for the safety and stewarding of those they allow in.
